It's been a while. It's apt, then, that the song featured today is from an artist who, in his own words, "tried quitting" but didn't quite manage it 'cause he likes making songs too much. Brookylyn's Ryan Gabel has been making music under the name Arc Light for a while now, and 'Balance' is the first we've heard from him since the Megajoules EP , released last month. It's wonky and dark synth-pop fun. Keep trekking, Ryan, we appreciate it. Balance by Arc [...]

Although this year we've already been blessed with the very compelling Calcium , and 2010 saw no less than two full lengths , our ever-busy and prolific Ryan Gabel aka Arc Light is working on at least two new releases, one of them being called Megajoules . No release date yet, but here's another track from the album, the gloomy and lush psych-pop jam "Driggs".

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue OLD Daughters of Eve Chicago. 1966 It was the times of Beat Boom. All-girl garage bands began forming at an escalating rate. Incorporating lotta of surf jams & cute girls/awesome girls complaints/lingerings. Some of which are not so politically correct: portraying the "little women" , though many hold relevance to nowadays. Different era same shit. Also in terms of sound. 'Hey Lover' was their 1st release, covering a [...]

Got a message from my good buddy Ryan Gabel aka Arc Light regarding his forthcoming full-length Bronze Fortune . I feel honored to get an advance digital copy of the whole album from him which is absolutely amazing by the way. Right now he's label shopping and mentioned the possibility of Solid Melts releasing it, but for now check out the first single from the album entitled Psychic's above.

Take a listen to the first single from Ryan Gabel aka Arc Light 's forthcoming full-length Bronze Fortune . Psychics is a woozy yet comparatively glaring (no, I don't think this is a contradiction) take on restrained cold wave, with Gabel's signature grim crooning even more hidden behind a curtain of layered synths than ever before. Very promising.

After some other strange stuff he's been messing around with recently, Brooklyn via Albuquerque, New Mexico artist Ryan Gabel returns under his principal recording moniker Arc Light with a new split EP together with Red Psalm , featuring two tracks by each artist plus one collaborative effort. No word about release date or label yet, but here's already the very nice video for the EP tune Daze in Dubai , made by the rather weirdly named fella KΓΓN6Ξ5PRIT . According to Gabel, this thing was done by installing "some kind of mad scientist [...]

Darkwave is the daddy of witchouse and it doesn't come with all of the unnecessary shapes that would have been better left to a store-brand Lucky Charms knockoff. The last couple years have been filled with so much gothic lean music that it makes it really refreshing to hear good darkwave that isn't from the 1980s. Arc Light is a one-man-act from Brooklyn specializing in the aforementioned genre and he's doing it well. "Meet At The Poles" is one of the tracks that stood out the most. Full of energy, while being loud and fuzzy. Well done. [...]
Just noticed this new track by Red Psalm that popped up on SoundCloud a few weeks ago. Just like the rest of Kansas City-based artist John Dickson's work, it's pretty top. Red Psalm - Light Sleepers Also heard that Red Psalm might be teaming up with New York based lo-fi weirdo psych-pop artist Arc Light to put out a split release, which will be well worth keeping an eye on over the next few weeks. So a few weeks ago I pretty much called Ryan Gabel a weirdo when talking about his music project Arc Light, in an introducing article over on ThisIsFakeDIY . I didn't have much to base that assessment on, just an album or so of material under his solo work as Arc Light, but it looks like it may have been a fair assessment after all, with fresh evidence coming from his new project, Myrrh. This time Ryan is working with a friend (named Landan, apparently), who seems to bring out an even weirder side. Myrrh has a [...]

The words to mention when describing Arc Light seem to be "lo-fi", "psychedelic" and "pop", but for me this is far too basic a reduction of the complex sounds coming from the project of Brooklyn's Ryan Gabel. In fairness to the bloggers and Last FM taggers, these are some of the words Gabel himself uses to tag his releases on bandcamp page. As well as that, Arc Light, in Gabel's words with Ashtapes , make the sound of "too much inspirational music" and indeed it's immediately clear from listening to his music [...]

I love Arclight and thank God, because Ryan Gabel is one of my very best friends. If I didn't it would make for a lot of awkwardness and anxiety on my part. I start to have panic attacks when someone drunkenly pulls out an acoustic guitar at a party, or asks me to listen to their music and tell them what I think. I'm not very good at lying, or keeping a poker face about anything, so I am thankful that I find everything he does to be [...]

Arc Light - Battery Children Arc Light - Get My Grip My good buddy Ryan aka Arc Light is at it again. Download his 3 song ep via his bandcamp HERE . Me and Ryan are also doing a project called Rage City . An album is in the works and should be released on bandcamp real soon. Download 'Meh' ep HERE Article by: Tony B.
Our guy Ryan Gabel aka Arc Light returns with a brand new EP after last month 's splendid Westinghousing full length, with three tunes that he presented last night are supposed to be his "cleaner" stuff according to the artist himself. And indeed, VHS is Dead sounds less rough and overtly lo-fi than the album's tracks, in particular the vocals are clearer now, but in any case Gabel has not given up to deliver pretty psyched-out, 80s infused synth pop gems that let my inner self walk around like Detective Sonny Crockett, and [...]

Albuquerque, New Mexico dude Ryan Gabel's one man lo-fi psych pop project Arc Light had been on my radar since my pals over at Ashtapes had introduced his music in late August , but he only very recently regained my full awareness when the impeccable Rose Quartz folks told us about Arc Light's new album Westinghousing which was put up to his bandcamp roughly two weeks ago. Moreover, it turns out that Gabel has relocated to Brooklyn since the first time I've encountered him, and on the [...]

Arc Light - Shift Now Arc Light - Bed Stuy Bedlam Scummy, low lit drum machine pop from Brooklyn's Arc Light partly built out of that slow demerol drift honed by Games et al as well as this rad Gary War kind of uneasy post/punk churn (and shit tonnes of reverb) that muffles some otherwise bright feelings You can grab his first album for free at his Bandcamp and pay a few dollas for his more recent one from which these jams are lifted and some [...]
