Nottingham/Derby based quintet The Harmonics describe themselves as 'An exuberant and energetic band that blend shiny indie-pop sensibilities with a guitar driven rock aesthetic that wont be ignored'. Brave words indeeed, so Ralph took a look at their debut EP 'Shelley' to see if they live up to expectations prior to them launching their Summer mini-tour. The Harmonics are George Ramplin [...]

Brit rockers take on The Beatles' classic for Olympic opening ceremony

The London Olympics opening night ceremony on Friday left a last impression on millions of viewers, thanks in part to the songs choices used to emphasize director Danny Boyle's dazzling spectacle. UK chart-topping tunes like U2 's "Where The Streets Have No Name", David Bowie 's "Heroes", Pet Shop Boys ' "West End Girls" and Arctic Monkeys ' "I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor" soundtracked the parade of countries marching into the Olympic Stadium, while [...]

Arctic Monkeys - London Olympic Games 2012 Watch The Arctic Monkeys perform at the Olympic Games in London for the Opening Ceremony - 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' and the amazing 'Come Together' by The Beatles

Last Friday, a few of us spent the end of our Friday afternoons attempting to watch choppy illegal streams of the BBC's Olympics coverage - exactly the sort of thing NBC was trying to prevent us from seeing. Those of us who succeeded in tuning in saw some perfectly ridiculous things during the Ceremony, which filmmaker Danny Boyle directed, my favorite being the cartoon punks on pogo shoes who bounced around during "Pretty Vacant" and "Firestarter." But the actual ceremony included a full-scale tribute to the entire history of British pop music, featuring performances from Paul McCartney, Dizzee Rascal, Frank [...]

Filed under: News AFP British rock 'n' roll factored heavily into last night's London Olympics opening ceremony , and as one might expect, the music of the Beatles got gold-medal treatment. In addition to Paul McCartney 's closing performance of " Hey Jude " -- a massive singalong he prefaced with a line from "The End" -- latter-day Brit-rock heroes the Arctic Monkeys covered the Fab Four's "Come Together." [...]

Last night the eyes of the world were on London for the opening ceremony of the Olympics and the creation of Oscar-2inning film maker, Danny Boyle. I must say I was pretty impressed by the whole thing. What really got our excitement going was the use of music in the show. Emeli Sandé made an appearance before Dizzee Rascal appeared from a home in the middle of the arena. Two Door Cinema Club and Paul McCartney also made an appearance. A highlight for me was Arctic Monkeys who performed their ever popular debut single "I Bet You Look [...]

Last night's Opening Ceremony proved many things, but perhaps more emphatically than anything, it showed that we know our way around a melody. Bowie, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Blur, Winehouse, and...er, Fuck Buttons. First and last time we'll hear Fuck Buttons at an Opening Ceremony? Most probably. While Macca led the crowd through a sing-song of 'Hey Jude' the real thrill of the live performances was watching Arctic Monkeys tear through their breakthrough track 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' infront of a billion people. [...]

Well, we're just about halfway with the reposts... Today, we feature volumes 9 and 10, which were originally posted in August 2009. Volume 10 holds a special place in this blog's history, because that's when Aaron from Tsururadio offered to post the mix on his blog. That started a bit of following and it has grown ever since. Aaron's moved onto Tsuruphoto, following his passion for photography. He now has a nudie-zine featuring some edgy but tasteful art, several videos to promote the zine and Tsuruphoto, and the occasional mixtape. We owe a big thanks for his early support, and [...]

The best of the British pop tradition is showcased on "Reckless Serenade", a little Beatles, a little Kinks, a little Northern Soul, and a little bit Weezer (OK, not so British but that guitar lead at 2:06 is totally "Pink Triangle"). "We were good as married in my mind but married in my mind's no good." All the same, "Reckless Serenade" is an ace track. Suck It and See is due 6th June. Assist to our family at SKOA on the track. Poverty and the lack of culture is just as influential in breeding creativity as being cultured and well-off does. It gives people a way out, a desire to succeed at anything if it means they can escape their life of ennui. Some of the greatest bands of all time have grown up with nothing other than a desire to leave their shitty town to find something else, something new, something meaningful, something worth living for. I've got no idea if Presents For Sally had that kinda life growing up or not, but when I was trying to find a [...]

So, this is something new and interesting. The night before my interview with Sky Ferreira , I received a vaguely mysterious e-mail from MuuMuse reader Sam Lansky with an attachment entitled "Fame Fatale." The e-mail suggested that the attached may assist me in preparing for my interview. As soon as I began reading, I already knew: This had to be published immediately. "Fame Fatale" is not only a remarkably in-depth analysis (and personal account) of Ferreira's curious rise to fame, but a thoughtful contemplation of the manufacturing of the modern pop star and [...]
