Both Guards and Palma Violets brought an edgy no frills sound to the stage in San Francisco that made us all thank our lucky stars that rock music isn't dead.
Check out some energetic brit-rock in the form of Palma Violets on us!

If you're popping to Wilderness Festival this Saturday, I very much urge you to take in Mahalia's set. Having seen her myself in a small London venue a few months back, I was mesmerised by the beautiful sound that this young girl produces. Her stripped back cover of the Arctic Monkey's Mardy Bum is a charming piece of music. She has strokes of Adele to her tunes but there is definitely a flair for Folk within her music. Indeed, she played Communion's Bushstock Festival this May. It's a very much a family affair with Mahalia's band with her [...]

Once again, thanks to the inestimable We All Want Someone To Shout For I have the two performances from last night's surprise Arctic Monkeys performance at the opening ceremonies of the London Olympics...this time in MP3 form. Here's to hoping that we'll get some fresh Youtube videos of the performance, or videos uploaded elsewhere that won't be taken down. You can buy both tracks (studio versions) on iTunes here . MP3: Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor (Live At The London Olympics) MP3: [...]
Arctic Monkeys opened the London Olympics. The motherloving Olympics! That my favorite band in the world got the opportunity to do this is absolutely amazing to me. I don't know if I'm more surprised because I like them, or because they are still in their prime and not on the tail end like other bands asked to do prestigious things such as this. Hands down one of the coolest things musically in my life and I wasn't even there. I watched it on a shitty stream and am now having to wait [...]

![[Listen] – Two New Songs By Various Cruelties – “Neon Truth” & “She Is The One”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3324085_lg.jpg)
One of the most seriously underappreciated new bands doing the rounds today are Various Cruelties , a previously gushed-over four-piece from London. How often can you say that a soulful Indie-Rock band made you groove, get down, and rock out all within the span of a four minute song? Ok, there are a few, but Various Cruelties are the real deal; they get down, they groove, and they rock out themselves, their songs are melodious 50s-inspired Soul-jams, some with a Ska-tinged horns and big-beat drums. That was just their last single, but this [...]
It's hard to believe that we're introducing a band that has only played three live shows together, but such is apparently the case with Various Cruelties. In a huge stroke of luck, though, the three bands for whom they have opened are Villagers , Mumford & Sons , and The Vaccines . A four-piece hailing from White City, London, Various Cruelties describes themselves as "shabby Motown pop," and for the most part, the description fits. Think Arctic Monkeys without the acerbic wit and penchant for heavy guitar lines. Various Cruelties' latest single (their third - [...]

We know that we saw AC/DC post on their official website that they were headlining Reading & Leeds Festivals 2009 but it appears that it is Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead and Kings Of Leon that will be headlining the Main Stage at the festivals formerly known as Reading Rock this summer. AC/DC are rumoured to be headlining Hard Rock Calling on June 27 2009 - the day after their Wembley Stadium show - with Bruce Springsteen expected to headline June 28 2009 - the day after his rumoured Glastonbury headline appearance.
