Last night's Opening Ceremony proved many things, but perhaps more emphatically than anything, it showed that we know our way around a melody. Bowie, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Blur, Winehouse, and...er, Fuck Buttons. First and last time we'll hear Fuck Buttons at an Opening Ceremony? Most probably. Arctic Monkeys opened the London Olympics. The motherloving Olympics! That my favorite band in the world got the opportunity to do this is absolutely amazing to me. I don't know if I'm more surprised because I like them, or because they are still in their prime and not on the tail end like other bands asked to do prestigious things such as this.
