Words by Brendan All Hallow's Eve is upon us! Wednesday is the day of celebration, the dance of the dead. There's no need for a suave/slutty costume; there's no need for candy; there's no need for jack-o'-lanterns and cobwebs and tombstones. All you need are some friends, some pumpkin beers, and some good fucking music. That's where we come in. Here's a mixtape of Halloweeny tunes for you to play at your party. Some of these bands are as old as the hills, and some I quite literally just heard about [...]

Arctic Monkeys opened the London Olympics. The motherloving Olympics! That my favorite band in the world got the opportunity to do this is absolutely amazing to me. I don't know if I'm more surprised because I like them, or because they are still in their prime and not on the tail end like other bands asked to do prestigious things such as this. Hands down one of the coolest things musically in my life and I wasn't even there. I watched it on a shitty stream and am now having to wait [...]
It’s that time of year again – everyone’s gearing up to drop new singles on awesomely colored vinyl for you to purchase in your neighborhood record shop for Record Store Day! Arctic Monkeys are delivering a new single for the occasion, “R U Mine?” and it comes with a brand new b-side, “Electricity.” We love when Arctics get super heavy, which is why we’re into “Electricity” – its circling brutal guitars, massive drums, driving riffs all add up into a moshpit-ready barnburner of the highest proportions. Check it out, and remember to pick up the single [...]

When you hear stories about Arctic Monkeys and their inception you hear of Myspace and free CD's. At the peak of Myspace use I must admit, I was all over it daily. I was hesitant to even change to using Facebook once I got to University. However I didn't come upon Arctic Monkeys because of Myspace, I was given a CD from a friend, a CD that simply said Beneath The Boardwalk on it. To this day I have that CD amidst my collection of discs piling up to the Ceiling, it might take me a [...]
Arctic Monkeys have let loose a brand new standalone single titled "R U Mine?" with an accompanying music video, which you can watch above. Chances are, those who get to see Arctic Monkeys during their tour with The Black Keys will get to hear the live rendition of the song. The band goes on tour alongside The Black Keys starting on March 2nd.
Seemingly out of the blue, The Arctic Monkeys released a new, unattached single called "R U Mine?" As far as we know, there isn't an album planned, though that can change at any moment. "R U Mine?" doesn't do much to depart from last year's Suck It and See , which is to say it's catchy, straight-forward rock with the bass turned up to 11. New Arctic Monkeys song. Harkens back to the stoner-rock vibe of Humbug . As Pitchfork pointed out, it's not on their current LP, Suck It and See , nor is from any sort of impending release. Just a random one-off. I'll take it. If you fancy it enough to own it, download from iTunes .
Arctic Monkeys have been everywhere recently and they plan to keep their fans happy tonight too with a Friday treat. As they prepare to headline Paris' Olympia venue tonight (February 3) they will put up a live stream over on Arctic Monkeys.com . It'll be around 8.15PM GMT or in just over 3 hours to be precise. So, if you're over seas plan your lunch breaks accordingly! Happy Friday from SKoA and those Sheffield boys done good, Arctic Monkeys!
Arctic Monkeys stopped by BBC Radio 1 and delivered this sweet cover of one of last year's best dance floor jams, Katy B's "Katy On A Mission." Ch-ch-check it out. Called it ! A few weeks ago I said we'd have an Arctic Monkeys cover and a weird one at that. Today on Radio One, Alex Turner and the band were in the Live Lounge on the forgettable Fearne Cotton show to put in some performances. Laying down a great rendition of "Black Treacle" they then went on to perform a mystery cover. The song they chose was Katy B 's " Katy on a Mission " and turned the dub track not a chilled guitar number with tremolo filled guitar lines. Check out [...]
Arctic Monkeys dropped the horrendously titled but otherwise pretty good Suck It and See in 2011 and it’s still yielding singles – next up is “Black Treacle,” b/w the brand new cut “You & I,” which features Richard Hawley of Pulp on vocal duties. "Black Treacle," the next single from Arctic Monkeys ' fourth studio album Suck It and See , is set to be released on February 21st, and accompanying the single will be b-side "You & I," which features former Pulp member Richard Hawley . The b-side sees Arctic Monkeys taking care of the instrumentation while Hawley assumes the duty of lead vocals, so give the result a listen below, courtesy of We All Want Someone To Shout For . Another year, another astonishing array of releases to get you through January to December.
