Last night the Arctic Monkeys kicked off their european festival summer tour in Poland. At the Open'er festival they played 4 songs off of Humbug: Crying Lightning, Pretty Visitors, Potion Approaching, and Secret Door. Thankfully someone decided to record the first live performance of Secret Door. The song is top class, really melodic, dreamy, and nostalgic. It sounds very good! While reading various forums I found out that the band had put a video up showing about 30 seconds of the band playing "Pretty Visitors". The sound of it was kinda muffled, but that was ok since we already have heard it from them on live vids. Today, I stumbled across a 25 second track of a previously unheard of track "Cornerstone". The Arctic Monkeys have updated fans on the progress of their forthcoming album with an online video. Drummer Matt Helders posted a video of the band's rehearsals from a studio in London, England where they are currently preparing tracks for their forthcoming recording session. The band will soon head out to New York City where they will finish recording tracks for the new album and follow-up to 2007's 'Favourite Worst Nightmare'. A bunch of the new Arctic Monkeys tunes surfacing lately have been terrible quality bootlegs, but this clip of "Crying Lightning" from the Big Day Out festival in Sydney is the first tolerable glimpse of the band's new direction. Having holed up in the studio with Queens of the Stoneage frontman Josh Homme doesn't seem to have had a huge impact on Alex Turner's writing style, though he's definitely experimenting with more complicated arrangements and a markedly slower pace. Arctic Monkeys are currently working on a new album that is apparently "78 percent" done. They performed "Crying Lightning," a new track supposedly from the album at Sydney's Big Day Out Fest recently.
