The Crowdfunding Revolution: Social Networking Meets Venture Financing (discount code included)

The Crowdfunding Revolution: Social Networking Meets Venture Financing (discount code included) Cross posted from the IOUmusic blog I haven't had the chance to get a copy of this myself yet, but if you are at all interested in ideas behind IOUmusic, this book sounds like a good place to start. While it addresses far wider issues than just supporting musicians, there are certainly lessons from the bigger picture musicians could use in pursuit of their own crowdfunding pursuits. Order here and use the following code to get a 25% discount. CODE: 8DX2RMMA (good until Dec.31, 2010) Or for folks [...]

Some weekend reading via the L.A. Times

Found a series of articles in the L.A. Times that I thought were interesting enough that if you are an artist looking for new ideas/what's happening now and/or someone considering launching a label - these articles cover a lot of what's happening - or at least from an indie perspective - presently via some snapshots of a few artists/labels. L.A.'s string of indie labels succeeds with a jack-of-all-trades approach The path to success [...]

Soul Search

Soul Search Here's a little hip-hop gem that you'd be a fool not to check out. I consider it a classic as it flows like none other thanks to lush, funky R&B beats and guest singer Linn. Not much else to say about Soul Search ; you gotta check it out. Preview the album over at CD Universe . Related posts: Freddie Cruger Closing out a trio of hip-hop posts, we have ourselves... Evenings – North Dorm EP

Oh man, I almost forgot this blog existed. I know you didn't miss me too much though =) Here's an EP I'm absolutely loving at the moment from band/person 'Evenings'. To put it simply, it's ambient chillwave. If you don't know what chillwave is, google it! It's one of the more natural, calming, and inspiring electronic albums I've heard as of late, and I recommend it to any fan of the genre or anyone who is looking for some relaxing electronic music. Stream/download for free it at bandcamp . Related posts: [...]

Glory Glory Man United save the day w/ ZOMBIES!

Glory Glory Man United save the day w/ ZOMBIES! So my label put out GGMU's debut EP. It seems I should have maintained a working relationship with them (don't worry we still have sleepovers all the time). Why, oh little reviews like the following for their debut LP, ZOMBIES!: The Toronto Star wrote : Arguably the most impressive indie pop band to come out of the East Coast since Two Hours Traffic Ground Control had this and more to say: ZOMBIES!!! marks Glory Glory Man United as a band [...]

::Disco 2

I've been pretty keen on giving HEALTH updates, and this news is probably the best of all. The psychedelic space-punk math-rock group is set to release their second remix album ::Disco 2 June 22 on Lovepump United. Their first attempt at a remix album fared pretty well, although I don't think it's something you can listen to all the way through without getting a little antsy. This one is probably going to be the same way, best used as fillers in playlists or played individually. I think you have to be on some sort of drug [...]

Dear Quebec/Ontario: Bad Vibrations are coming your way

Dear Quebec/Ontario: Bad Vibrations are coming your way In the bleak summer of 09, three pals with some time on their hands formed a new loud rock n roll band..... And made it one of my favorite new bands to come out of Halifax in a while. Dirty low-fi power pop punk that KICKS!! Thanks in no small part to Meg's instinctual beat down on the kit. For a first time drummer she plays with enough confidence and raw ommph to convince anyone this is not a) her first band and b) that she hadn't played drums before. The band is fronted by KC [...]

[new] Wye Oak - My Neighbor/My Creator EP

A new EP is out from the Baltimore slow-core duo Wye Oak. Their last release was one of my "must-hear" albums of 2009, and this one is great as well. Here's the opening track: Wye Oak - "I Hope You Die" Sounds like it would be a little malicious but its really not. The EP is out now digitally via Merge . // Wye Oak MySpace (for tour dates and more) Related posts: Red Box Recorder [...]

K.C. Accidental

K.C. Accidental This band laid the foundation for Broken Social Scene, as it's core members were Kevin Drew and Charles Spearin, and a bunch of other people contributed on their second album (they only had two). If you're a fan of BSS you will love this, although its different--- mostly instrumental, but it keeps the same summery rock feel. Oh, warm weather. Hear some songs at their unofficial MySpace , or read about them at their wiki page . Related posts: St. Etienne - "Spring" (Air France remix) [...]

[new] Minus The Bear - "My Time"

[new] Minus The Bear - "My Time" The new album Omni is coming May 4th, and you can pre-order it now on your favorite format here . "My Time" the opening track on the record. The main thing to note is it's got keyboards instead of their usual guitar overload, so it's a neat change. Don't expect this on the whole record though, this is a guitar band! mp3: Minus The Bear - "My Time" "Into The Mirror", the seventh track on the album, along [...]

CFCF - "Big Love (Mathemagic Remix)"

I haven't heard the entirety of CFCF's debut LP Continent (review and stream here ), but I get the feeling that this remix is a more relaxing, soothing version of their brand of electro-pop. There are plenty of influences to be heard in this band's sound, but I feel like this Mathemagic remix really puts it together into something unique. mp3: CFCF - "Big Love (Mathemagic Remix)" If you're planning on hitting up SXSW in Texas later this week, CFCF will be there . Small Black/Washed Out Split 7″

Small Black/Washed Out Split 7″ This track is off a 7" that is an absolute must-have IMO if you like either band. They remix each others tracks, and Small Black plays "Weird Machines" live as a bonus track, and that one is particularly awesome. While Washed Out is one of the cornerstone/breakthrough "chillwave" acts out there and while I think a lot of his stuff is overrated, this disc definitely delivers. Very energetic yet not overloaded. Make sure to get the rest if you like this!!! Small Black - "Despicable Dogs (Washed Out remix)" [...]

Cloud Nothings - "Hey Cool Kid" Memoryhouse Remix

Cloud Nothings - "Hey Cool Kid" Memoryhouse Remix Memoryhouse take the vocals from one of Cloud Nothing's fuzzy pop songs and throw down some lovely chillwave over top. It sounds nothing like the original, but it's one of the better chillwave songs I've heard, so download it! mp3: Cloud Nothings: "Hey Cool Kid" mp3: Cloud Nothings: "Hey Cool Kid (Memoryhouse Remix)" [via Pitchfork ] :: Memoryhouse on MySpace:: :: Cloud Nothings on MySpace:: [...]

After months of not using Last.fm's 'Recommended Radio', this is what I get. And what you get.

I don't use last.fm radio as much as I should, and I know this because I tuned in to my "recommended radio" for the first time in months, and what do you know, I only skipped about two songs in a period of about an hour and a half. I'm not sure if it's because I haven't used the radio feature in so long that it has a queue of "highly recommended" artists and songs, or if it's just awesomely smart. Regardless, here are some tracks that came up that I really like and that I [...]

[New] Beach House - "The Arrangement"

[New] Beach House - "The Arrangement" B-more dream poppers are set to release a new EP on Record Store Day, April 14th. Their latest album Teen Dream just came out last month, and it was an interesting shift-- the songs being more crisply than their past two albums. It seems to have worked for them because the album gained much more attention than it's predecessors. Here's a cut off the EP, "The Arrangement". mp3: Beach House - "The Arrangement" Zebra EP tracklist: 01 Zebra (UK Radio Edit) 02 The Arrangement [...]

NEW DEFTONES ALBUM COMING IN MAY

The band will release their sixth album entitled Diamond Eyes on May 18th of this year. Note that this is NOT Eros , the album they were working on at the time of Chi's car accident. It is a brand new album that they have made since Chi fell into the coma. Sergio Vega fills in on bass. The first single, "Rocket Skates", will be available tomorrow for download. The band is lined up to play the UK's Download festival in Donington Park on June 11-13. [...]
