OK, I am in class right now.; but we've been debating what criteria determine which social customs are going to be legally protected in court and I've already stated and defended my point. Now my classmates are arguing what the civil war was about. Duh, state rights. So most of you know I either download music or buy it from dollar bins at Reckless and Half Price Books. My favorite in the first category is the new Cloud Nothings album, produced by Steve Albini and one of the best albums I've [...]

Moody, dense and textured, AJA is an exploration of physical and emotional space and the real a nd imaginary divisions within it. The decision to interpret the album in full was made during a period in which the band struggled to comple te its self-titled sophomore record. With no label and mixing stalled, The Darcys were unable to track new material, instead embracing the challenge of reshaping the collective favorite and presenting it to the world as a dark, but bold declaration of self-sufficiency. "We did it because we could," the band's [...]
the Narrow Musketeer by the narrow musketeer The Narrow Musketeer is a project that's short on song lengths, but big on personality. It sounds like it was recorded in a bedroom, which is fine, but music of this style does tend to get a bad rap. The humble means of the Narrow Musketeer doesn't prevent beautifully odd tunes from coming out. Tracks like "Easy Girl" and "the Song I Never Wrote" feature some pretty creative vocal melodies, but have this really strange awkwardness about them that's hard not to enjoy. Download [...]

Photo Credit Aaron Miller "Art rock band from Toronto, The Darcys have played with the likes of Deerhoof, Hollerado, Tennis and more throughout 2011 leading up to the release of their debut self-titled album October 25, 2011 on Arts & Crafts. Catch them live once again on a national US tour with Bombay Bicycle Club . What a fantastic quality freebie from The Darcys, The debut long player is packed full of soaring guitars and rolling percussion - think of a disenfranchised Coldplay or The Editors without [...]
"Sounds of Sebring" is taken from 1996's They Spent Their Wild Youthful Days in the Glittering World of the Salons , Swirlies ' most dynamic work ever. Kind of appalling how overlooked the band became in the mid-1990's. Fun fact: Damon Tutunjian produced Mew's debut album, A Triumph For Man .
Wounded Lion want you to know that their new video does not enforce a belief in the occult. Hmm...all the splices of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar footage could have fooled me. "Going Into The Unknown" is a track off the LA art rock band's new album IVXLCDM that's currently available. Check it out and let us know what you think. http://rpc.blogcatalog.com/ http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ ping

This Kendal bred, London based four-piece produce transfixing soundscapes that combine haunting vocals with drawn out guitars and scratchy synths. Their music is prevalent with influences taken from the last decade of indie and yet manages to avoid falling into the imitation trap. 'Human' is a minimalist and progressive track, stripped back to allow for the teasing vocals of lead singer Fiona Burgess to take the lead. Easily the stand out track of their double release (the other track 'Jenni' is to be released with 'Human' on the 5th December), 'Human' is a fine example of Woman's Hour's [...]
MP3 A new track from Athens, Georgia band Of Montreal. If y'all watch my reviews, you know how I feel about the band's trajectory , but this song is an obvious trek backwards into older sounds. Well, sort of. I'd say this album is an attempt to recapture past glories, but the quiet, ominous swells of piano and strings toward the end of this song reach a new level of arrangement I'm yet to hear in the band's music. Hopefully, every song on the forthcoming Paralytic Stalks feels [...]

We take Movember in a totally different direction today with Miami quintet Ex Norwegian telling a tale of a Mustang driving moustachioed girl. The band spent the later half of 2009 and early 2010 recording this second album, "Sketch" which was self-produced and eventually self-released that summer. In 2011, their label, Dying Van Gogh records picked up the 10-track album, originally scheduled for release today (but now the 15th). The original closing powerpop anthem "Tired of Dancing" was replaced with this fine track, "Girl With The Moustache." Enjoy a nice dose of Moustache Beauty. [...]

Franz Ferdinand will be returning to the world of music in 2012, according to guitarist Nick McCarthy. The Scottish band has been quiet since the release of their last album, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, in 2009. McCarthy spoke to Daily Record, stating, "We're thinking of doing something again after a bit of a sabbatical. We'd toured

Lands and People - "Everyday" Live at Metro Gallery I have been meaning to post about these guys since I first heard them on Gluttony Is The New Black and then geeked during CMJ to Jimmy (who also runs the awesome Head Underwater ) about my love for them. "Everyday" is a live recording taken during their show at the Metro Gallery in Baltimore. Listening to it makes me want to drive down to Baltimore and catch a show or harass them enough until they just give up and come to [...]
The "unobtrusively brilliant" singer-songwriter Cass McCombs released a video this week for "The Same Thing," an August track that had escaped troysnoise until today. Better late than never. The video features a collage of black and white footage, some including Cass himself. His sixth LP, Humor Risk, is due out November 8 less than seven months after the release of Wit's End . This dude is a genius. Cass McCombs - "Same Thing"
A little while back I brought you news of MiniBoone , a group with history in art-rock, using repetitive verses and frenetic imagery to win over fans. This newest single is very similar, at least in the beginning of the tune, sort of like old school Futureheads . But, as the song progresses it's reigned in a bit, organized into a fairly traditional pop spin. You'll definitely find yourself lost in this track, especially as the vocals begin to warm a bit. You can find this track and several others [...]

Love Devo (it's pretty hard not to), their unique and rather wacky style has sleazed between punk , art rock , post-punk , and New Wave and had a close cult following ever since they released Whip it! Their live shows mingle kitsch science fiction themes, deadpan surrealist humor, and mordantly satirical social commentary. Halloween party? Get some Devo on. DOWNLOAD

[New Album] Spanish Prisoners - Gold Fools A few months ago I happend check out a band that my friend Bob over at GIMME TINNTUS had been tweeting about constantly. He was particularly impressed with their track " Know No Violence " and after listening I could understand why. One more month passed and I had to the chance to attend their album release show at DBA. Not only did they sound great live, but the whole album is a gold mine of art rock gems. It's one of the best debut [...]
