Trust is Toronto based duo Robert Alfons and Maya Posteps, who judging by their press photos, are also daytime Urban Outfitter models. I have a hard time deciphering what their actual name is but I think they should make it more distinct since there is also a French and Belgium band with the same name. Either way, the duo was signed to Arts and Craft last year and will release their debut record at some point this year. In preparation for this luminous event, the band will be playing a host of shows in early [...]
You've always got to keep a close eye on the Canucks at Arts and Crafts , as they always discover some real gems that they wish to spread across the globe. They've just announced the signing of Bishop Morocco , and they'll be releasing the band's Old Boys EP on March 13th. It's interesting that this came out this week, as it follows closely in the line of The Mary Onettes track I posted earlier this week. It's got a certain softness [...]
![The Darcys – Aja [review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4020769_lg.jpg)
This is the first album review of 2012. It comes from Toronto's The Darcys . Aja (pronounced Asia) is their second album on Arts & Crafts . From what I read that Aja and the self-titled album are part of a companion trilogy set. Not sure what the themes are? Having released their self-titled album three months ago . This comes to no surprise and quickness of the second album. Aja consist of seven tracks. The majority of the tracks are brand new [...]

A lot of bands have nostalgically hit back at the 80s, but that's not the path that Zeus seems to take. They've gone even further, hitting up on the AOR sounds of the 70s, using sharp guitar licks and Rod Stewart-esque vocals to kick out their jams. The group are about to release their new record, Busting Visions , on Arts and Crafts this March, and if you dig you're rock n' roll with a bit of old school swagger, then this is [...]

We had this post flagged last week, but of course, being the lazy bloggers we are, we sat on it and now P4K named it best new track, and now we just look like those schmucky second rate guys that... ANYWAY! This is a solid song that according to Larry Fitzmaurice is "slithery" enough to use that adjective twice in one review... but we digress. "Sulk" doesn't rewrite the book on goth-synth, but is solid enough to file next to your recent Cold Cave albums, which is very good company indeed. Trust also features Maya Postepski from the [...]

Don't be alarmed if the name seems familiar, it was only last week that we posted about the duo's video for the dark, sweat soaked "Bulbform" . continue reading >>
Trust 's latest single, "Sulk", is a delectable preview of things to come on their upcoming LP TRST (out February 28 on Arts and Crafts ), blending their eerie instrumentation with a well-suited post-punk feel that gives the track a strong Echo and the Bunnymen flavor (with a cheeky lyrical nod to Ian McCulloch). The track is a lot different from the other album track that's already been released, " Bulbform ", which drew more from the witch house side of the spectrum and felt a bit more heavily distorted and beat-driven. The album will feature [...]

Enjoy.
SXSW 2012 - Bands to Watch #2 - Young Galaxy Back in 2007, I was part of a small promotions/online radio/webzine/venue called Little Radio. One of my fondest musical discoveries that year was a new Arts & Crafts band called Young Galaxy . They had reportedly just moved from California to Canada, and the Arts & Crafts roster was the hottest at the time. I think I can remember describing their sound in a review as something like "Laura Branigan meets Slowdive" — sounds awkward right? But if you [...]

Toronto duo Trust dropped their latest video for the mesmeric "Bulbform" over the weekend, to add more fuel to their already anticipated debut album. continue reading >>

There was nothing promising about the Ra Ra Riot show at the University of Maryland's Ritchie Coliseum on December 2nd. I didn't really know the band well. The commute from DC to College Park (the 'burbs) was going to be a mess. I was going to be surrounded by undergrads (no offense, undergrads). BUT: people I adore (aka my sister) like the band; tickets were $7; they had come through DC a few weeks before and sold out for over $20; I had three friends willing to go. Why not? And, despite [...]

Los Campesinos! Hello Sadness Arts & Crafts Records [2011] Fire Note Says: Los Campesinos! get serious on fourth long player, Hello Sadness, that paves new paths for the band which succeeds all the way to the end! Album Review: Any band with longevity always works their way towards a "mature" record, which is a widely used term to convey a multitude of things, such as [...]
![Malajube, The Darcys and The Goodluck Assembly @ Ritual [November 10, 2011]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3855552_lg.jpg)
Went to Ritual on November 10, 2011. Playing at the show was: Malajube The Darcys The Goodluck Assembly It was a pretty fun rocking. Despite The Besnard Lakes (who I haven't seen them live yet) had to cancelled to [...]

Finally the light of day has come for the Darcys to drop their long awaited album on Arts and Crafts . With years of ups and downs, the wait is over with this album. I happen to notice this band back in 2010 which the members are (using this interview ) Jason Couse (Lead vocals, guitar, piano and the sensitive guy) Wes Marskell (Drummer and the bad boy) Michael le Riche (Guitar, vocal and good looking guy) Dave Hurlow (Bassist, the jock and baby [...]

Eight and a Half , featuring members of Broken Social Scene and The Stills , have joined Arts and Crafts . To celebrate the signing Eight and a Half are giving away a free download of their song, "Scissors", as well as a remix of the song. Both songs will be released on a 10-inch later this year via Gallery AC

Toronto collective Broken Social Scene has gone on an indefinite hiatus, according to leader Kevin Drew. Huffington Post has the report : "This is the healthiest thing we can do ... There's no bad blood, no problems, everyone is at peace. We've had a lot of inter-relationships, some have worked, some haven't. But we all loved what we were doing. And I think we were always fair." The group, together since 2001, released Forgiveness Rock Record last year.
Dan Mangan - Follow up to 2009's exceptionally fine Nice, Nice Very Nice continues the Vancouver songwriter's steady shift from acoustic-wielding folk singer to burgeoning indie alt-pop-with-an-edge artisan...the tales are as witty and sharply etched as when he started out but the colorful creative palette in the studio has grown significantly...Mangan calls the experiences of the past few years as "life changing stuff" // Release : Oh Fortune (September 27, Arts and Crafts) // Sounds like : the ambitious new project picks up Nice -ly where the last [...]
Los Campesinos ! are back! Yesterday the Welshmen released the video and a downloadable version of "By Your Hand," the first track off of their upcoming third album, Hello Sadness. The album title is as blatant as can be, but the upbeat music serves as a perfect silver lining. Despite a totally downer subject, "By Your Hand" is the bands most pure pop song to-date. The story of love lost is presented visually through a diptych that ends in total chaos. Look out for Hello Sadness out on Broken Social [...]

Los Campesinos! have announced the details for their next full-length. The record is titled Hello Sadness and is the follow up to 2010's Romance is Boring . Hello Sadness was mixed by John Goodmanson (Sleater Kinney, Death Cab for Cutie ) and is due for a November 15th release on Arts and Crafts .
