MOKB has plenty of love for Asobi Seksu - we've premiered songs and booked them for SXSW parties of yore. If you haven't checked out their layered gauzy goodness, feast your eyes on their latest video. Currently on a mini-tour of the midwest, we have one pair of tickets to giveaway for their first show of 2012, courtesy of the fine folks at Polyvinyl . Just tell us your favorite Asobi Seksu song in the comments and we'll randomly choose [...]

So we would normally have our new releases out this week on Tuesday, but the new releases this time of year are few and far between. We decided to compile some tracks for your listening pleasure as you hang with family and friends around the tree, or cuddling up with your significant other in front of the yule log. Props to Vague Space for making our job pretty easy, by hosting some rad Christmas flavored tracks. Cheers. The Raveonettes; Christmas Song [...]

Two shows going on tonight you may want to check out. Asobi Seksu , which is colloquial Japanese for "playful sex," released its self-titled debut album in 2004 to significant critical acclaim, receiving attention from the New York Times, Pitchfork and mtvU. The music is very haunting, yet very attention grabbing. Asobi Seksu is playing at the Camel tonight with Canary Oh Canary, the Trillions and the Absent Center (who are all perfect additions to play a show with). [...]
![[Introducing] – White Birds](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3844331_lg.jpg)
Tweet Discovering Philadelphia's White Birds , made up of James Harvey (vocals, guitar) , Farzad Houshiarnejad (vocals, keys) , and Mike Cammarata (drums) is like discovering a long-forgotten mix-tape, a bit warped and tinny from sitting in the car too long several distant summers ago. You pop it into the tape deck of your mom's old '85 Ford Escort, then take a deep breath as sudden memories begin to hit you. "Hondora" instantly immerses you in [...]

On October 27, Boris played Irving Plaza as part of their HOPE World Tour. The Japanese experimental-metal greats shared the stage with a pair of local bands: transcendental black metallists Liturgy and throwback shoegazers Asobi Seksu. Greg Cristman is a fantastic NY-based photographer whose work has been featured everywhere from Brooklyn Vegan to Rolling Stone . He shot the Manhattan stop of the HOPE tour for Invisible Oranges, and he shared with us some of his thoughts on the show, too. — Mike Nelson [...]

photos by Chris La Putt Boris @ Irving Plaza Japanese band Boris have been touring across America with a rotating cast of notable openers including Coliseum and Tera Melos ( who they played with in Chicago ), and Asobi Seksu and Liturgy who supported them in NYC at Irving Plaza on Thursday night (10/27). As usual I've less than kept up with my promise to update more this year, in fact this is the worst year to date. I can't believe this is only my third post of the year??? How did that even happen? Let's just say I've had a really good year and seen some really great shows. For once we will have a Five for Friday that features all popular acts, my personal favorite being Wild Flag . For those that don't know I'm a HUGE Sleater-Kinney fan and a pretty big Helium fan as well, so this [...]

Here are a few gems that have been on repeat lately: Hackman - You Deliver Asobi Seksu - Trails (Holy Other Remix) Giraffage - Moments The Weeknd - Initiation Sorry for being MIA this month! We been busy! Off of the internet and [...]

Asobi Seksu FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28 Asobi Seksu—which means "playful sex" in Japanese—is aptly named. Pairing shoegaze inspired grunge-pop with the dynamic vocals of Yuki Chikudate (who slips effortlessly between falsetto, full-out belting, and simply speaking melodically), the band is edgy, harsh, and brisk, yet cloyingly catchy. (Or, in a phrase: playfully sexy.) Chikudate's lyrics are a mix of English and Japanese, which band mates James Hanna and Larry Gorman have encouraged since the group formed in 2004. This blend of language is a defining trait of the Asobi Seksu [...]

About a month ago, I was at the Polyvinyl Records 15th Anniversary show in downtown Champaign, IL and I had a blast. It was the first time that Pygmalion Festival has done an outdoor stage and it turned out fantastic (I'm hoping they'll bring it back next year). I wanted to do individual reviews for each band but other things kept coming up that got in the way (computer crashing, this site being pharma hacked), and now too much time has lapsed since the event for there to be any hope I'd be able to recap all the greatness that [...]

[It's Friday... Add these covers to a mixtape soundtracking your forthcoming weekend shenanigans.] Asobi Seksu , "Never Understand (Jesus & Mary Chain cover)" –– New York's shoegaze dream-poppers take on one of the classics from the album "Psychocandy." The musicality on their rendition is pretty spot on with the exception of Yuki Chikudate's sweet vocals. The cover will be included on their forthcoming digital single release which also includes a cover of the Walkmen's "Little House of Savages" and new song "Hmm Hmm Him." [...]

Asobi Seksu New York dreampoppers Asobi Seksu are releasing a cover of classic Jesus and Mary Chain track 'Never Understand' on 17th October. It will be backed by Asobi's rework of 'Little House Of Savages' by The Walkmen. Asobi Seksu are still out on the road in America, this time supporting Japanese droners BORIS. News on UK dates will follow soon.
Look what I found today! I love good covers. I am still without my mp3 library, so forgve my lack of posts.
Way back in 1985, seminal noise-pop outfit the Jesus and Mary Chain began making waves with "Never Understand." It was the first single from the Scottish band's debut, Psychocandy , and would of course find its way lodged into our brains. Now, some 26 years later, fellow noise poppers Asobi Seksu have decided to record their own version of "Never Understand" in the studio after performing it live for several years. As you might expect, it's absolutely spot on with the only (and obvious) difference coming in the vocals. I mean, did we really expect monotone singing [...]
