Not just strange in the sense that Korallreven have managed to make the waves that they have despite such a scant amount of released material, but in that the record ebbs and flows like the work of a band much farther into their career. It rolls and crests organically, breathing in traditional indie pop sentiments, and exhaling them in a wash of hypnotic, swirling tones painted in pastel. [...]

Korallreven has sometimes been characterized as "ambient" music - which, if you only listened to the first ten seconds of their songs, you might think too. In reality, their sound is a carefully composed and constructed electronic-choral (now there's a genre I'd like to hear more of) soundscape. It's not without direction, either: the Swedish duo works in a percussive drive that doesn't allow the music to feel aimless. Their latest release, "Sa Sa Samoa," with Julianna Barwick, even works in a chant reminiscent of South African Isicathamiya, a la Ladysmith Black Mambazo. [...]

Korallreven are a Swedish duo that make the sort of music that only Swedes seem to be able to - rich and tropical yet also strangely icy and detached. The pair definitely share a sound with the likes of Air France and The Tough Alliance but come at things from a more a fully dance orientated direction. New single "As Young As Yesterday" showcases this excellently, with it's beautiful melody and upbeat tempo laying the framework for a range of interesting remix possibilities.
