Over the weekend, Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest and Maseo of De La Soul lectured about their considerable experience as artists in the hip hop industry. Both Ali and Maseo were the respective DJs and producers for their groups during what hip hop heads often refer to as the "Golden" era of hip hop but have gone on to continued success. The touring Red Bull Music Academy is based out of NYC but, as it's a touring association, they spoke in LA. Not gonna lie, I don't drink Red Bull and I don't understand the [...]
![EVENT (NYC): Jungle Brothers x Native Tongues Reunion Party [02/07]!](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4039056_lg.jpg)
WATCH: De La Soul's classic 'Buddy' video (which features The Native Tongues) For those of you who have grown up in the 90s (or anyone that appreciates that era in music), this event is definitely for YOU. I'm pretty sure that you guys at home are definitely familiar with the members of the Native Tongues , with J Dilla (RIP) being one of the newer members of the tribe. Anyways, this event will be taking place at SOB's in New York, and the tickets are currently $20. Guest DJ of [...]

It's midnight on a Sunday night, and you are flipping through the channels. There seems to be nothing on T.V., but wait... is that Scrubs being syndicated. Yes it is, and you can't help but watch. After airing for what seemed an eternity, and even surviving switching networks, the first season of the popular show starring Zach Braff reminds viewers why we loved Scrubs . Maybe it was the bromance between J.D. and Turk, perhaps it was the evil janitor, or even the rants by Dr. Cox. At any rate, I couldn't imagine college without being spectacle [...]

Für alle Tatort-Verächter: Eine Doku für den Sonntagabend. "Beats, Rhymes and Life - The travels of ATCQ" oder: Schwelgen im Golden Age of Hip Hop. Wer sich auf einen Nostalgie-Trip begeben möchte, der ist mit "Beats, Rhymes and Life – The travels of ATCQ" gut bedient.

A nice rendition to A Tribe Called Quest by Elaquent. Heres a remake of my fav ATCQ song. a lil sloppy, still needs work. - Elaquent Previous posts on Elaquent Elaquent: Facebook • Twitter •J• Tags: ATCQ , elaqe , elaquent , please settle down , rendition , tribe called quest , twitter

Very dope gem, found by the brothers at BamaLoveSou l. J Dilla & Phife...win win chemistry. Aw naw! As I was compiling gems for my A Tribe Called Quest tribute set tonight, I uncovered this 1999 Phife Dawg release. This jazzy Jay Dee produced gem appeared on a German release and was the B Side to Bend Ova, also produced by Jay Dee. Somehow, for whatever reason, this track didn't make it onto his album and now it's hard to find. Enjoy! - BamaLovesSoul [...]

Unfortunately, what was supposed to be HBO's Entourage replacement only lasted two seasons. The dropping of the axe on How To Make It In America didn't come as a surprise to most, as the TV program was mainly famous for starring Kid Cudi. But while the show, which followed two friends (Ben Epstein and Cam Calderon) trying to succeed in New York's competitive fashion scene, was far from perfect, its soundtrack was quite impressive. Today's playlist comprises dance, hip hop, electronic, and indie rock – our way of bidding adieu to the [...]
Stalley's phenomenal 2011 project Lincoln Way Nights is still in steady rotation, and rightfully so. My favorite track from the album, "The Night", gets the visual treatment today, showcasing the Tribe Called Quest samples and the dark themes throughout. Rick Ross and MMG made a good choice with this man, and I am terribly excited for his future with the rap collective. Stalley has plans of dropping his next project, Savage Journey to the American Dream, some time in 2012. Hit the skip to watch the video.
Today, dug out of the dusty UK vaults, is a 1995 performance that A Tribe Called Quest held in Subterania, a nightclub in London. This isn't just a couple cuts, though, this is a full set that spans a full hour of that classic Native Tongues sound. Besides running through all the hits, the crew improvise, freestyle, and more, making the crowd go absolutely wild. I have seen Tip and Tribe perform about a dozen times, but I would have loved to see these guys kick it back in '95. Head over to Soundcloud to stream the [...]

Creativity: such an interesting concept, especially in music. Time and time again do we see or hear some "coincidences" of similarities in riffs, lyrics, or song names. There are only so many words in the English language, so in many ways it is perhaps amazing how little overlap there is. Looking through my iTunes, I've found some of these. Interesting: Runaway (Kanye West, Cartel, and Linkin' Park) Up, Up, and Away (Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi, and a 1967 chart-topper in 1967 by [...]

Japanese producer and DJ Seba Jun (Nujabes is his birth name backwards) was only 36 years old when he died last February from injuries sustained in a car accident. His death was a big loss to a far-ranging community of fans who admired the artist's work on the anime [...]

So, hopefully you've been keeping up with all of the latest live jam sessions between BADBADNOTGOOD and various artists. We recently featured their work with Tyler The Creator as well as their tribute sessions for the likes of J Dilla and A Tribe Called Quest. Well, it seems that this whole time; they've been mass recording all these sessions for their inevitable album drop which they've just released. It's great when a group, like this, can really expose a lot of the new generations to a jazzy version of songs they should already be familiar with. Anytime more [...]

Whilst we may known for our refined palette in underground disco and house and often only spotted ripping some muscle in the gym or spinning wax at da hottest clubz, once every so often (most Thursdays) we switch our dumb bells for an XXL Fubu vest (dress) and swing on down, John Wayne style to The Social , just off Oxford street for some beer, bitchezzz and...hip hop karaoke (observation only) It's pretty hit or miss, but the odd time they'll spin 30 minute intervals crammed with the finest old school 90s flavas! In honour of these little [...]
Click image to download full album Sounds like: LLCoolJ, Drake, Pharrell, Common "Neak - Ready To Go (Round The Way Girl)" What's so good? Okay, I'm gonna say it: popular rap and hip hop of late has been more than disappointing. A genre which grew out of empowerment and self-expression has mainly been reduced to autotune and poorly executed samples from its archives. Last week, [...]

Today I really felt like doing one of those reverse Sample Sundays with Foster's Mystic Brew, but because I've already posted Tribe's Electric Relaxation which samples Mystic Brew on a previews post, I decided to give you guys a list all the tracks I know that sample Foster's epic tune. The list is made up by both Hip-Hop and R&B tracks, each managing to sample the track in a completely unique way. Enjoy Ronnie Foster - Mystic Brew Download audio file (07-Mystic-Brew.mp3) [...]
