PONY PONY RUN RUN

PONY PONY RUN RUN Pony Pony Run Run have gone and staked their claim for this week's blog domination, releasing a giant sized remix package for their tune Walking On A Line. Re-rubs come courtesy of folks like The Subs, French Fries, Beataucue and a whole bunch of other producers I've never heard of since dropping out of the daily hunt for exclusive bangorz. But if anything gets my attention it's a new Lifelike remix and his take on the tune is nothing short of vintage Lifelike. Clouds of synth-smoke billow, the bass and drums may as well be fused together [...]

TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB

TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB Sorry for the lack of posts around here, me and Stef are trekking across the US right now, chomping away at the country's vast reserves of buttered popcorn. Anyway, before normal activity resumes on Hyperbole, here's a tasty little treat from Kitsune crowd, put out just the other week. I'm into it. LIFELIKE

LIFELIKE Okay okay, so Lifelike ends up churning out like two remixes every month and some people begin to complain about over-saturation, etc. Nuts to them, I say. It would be tedious if the mixes were all the same, but as is the case with Lifelike, he manages to sprinkle some very unique magic over every track he touches. Take this, his latest mix for Baxter. Even though electro bangers have been surpassed by chill gaze (right, CRLS?) I simply love this to bits. Baxter - Proof (Lifelike Remix) [YS] REMOVED [...]

LIFELIKE

LIFELIKE Further proof that Lifelike is in fact the most wondrous producer out there. I really didn't think I could feel more for this song other than marginal affection for the Alan Braxe disco production on it, but damn, Lifelike makes it into pure magic. Stripping back the bulk of Killa Kela's vocals and loooooping the immaculate string arrangement it suddenly becomes this pristine, tightly-packed little disco thumper. You need this in your life, or at least in your iTunes. Killa Kela - Everyday (Lifelike Remix) [ YS ] [...]

RUSS CHIMES

RUSS CHIMES I put together a brief post about the new Valerie And Friends compilation that's dropping on Bandroom Records and ESR , but as the package is dropping this week, I figured a reminder wouldn't go astray. It basically reads as the definitive primer for the Valerie movement/collective/sound; all synth-heavy jams ideal for night drives and neon cruises. There's plenty of standout tracks including Anoraak's Long Distance Hearts, Loose Shus' Red Sonja and the studio version of College's The Light Of Your Dress, but one tune that's got me juiced most of all is Daytona from [...]

STRAVARDO

STRAVARDO I spoke about Stravardo at the beginning of the year as a way of ushering in Spencer's (of Damage -infamy) new project. The guy's been pretty quiet since then, only producing little bits of spacey electro goodness when his busy schedule allows it. But thankfully, those little morsels have been quality. Here's Stravardo's reworking of College's well-loved She Never Came Back with Electric Youth on vox. It's definitely a twist on the original which had a lot of bounce to it, but instead Stravardo slows things down for a more languid [...]

YUSSUF JERUSALEM

YUSSUF JERUSALEM Thanks to Bobmo for repping these guys go hard. Not that I'd really know, but from this I would have to agree with him that Yussuf Jerusalem are the best garage rock band in France. Must hear. Yussuf Jerusalem - With You In Mind [ YS ] MYSPACE

DAS GLOW

DAS GLOW Two new productions from Das Glow today. The first comes from the dude's new single out on Alan Braxe's Vulture label. Alan has been monumentally busy at the moment it would seem, securing some really great stuff for his label. This is no exception, it's some really wonderful filter-funk stuff, which kind of comes as a surprise, as Das Glow, being one of the main players over at Institubes, isn't too renowned for doing something this poppy and refined. I'm impressed with the turn here, and really hope it's a sign of the variation he'll show in the [...]

CHATEAU MARMONT

CHATEAU MARMONT I think it's fair to say that Chateau Marmont are the secret weapon of French electro. If you don't have a Lenny Kravitz-sized savings account to get a Justice remix but still want something undeniably French and unstoppably awesome, then you go to Chateau Marmont. Why? Because they can take a track, flip it on its head and make harder, better, faster and funner. Take this, their spin on the new Datarock material. Can't say I'm wild about the original, but you can't pass up Chateau Marmont. Not ever. Datarock - Give It Up [...]

PONEY PONEY

PONEY PONEY Parisian three piece Poney Poney just released their new EP last month and I think enough time has passed that I can safely throw up one of the tracks. This is the Rob remix of When Do You Wanna Stop Working - Rob being unsung hero of the French scene who also mans the keyboards for Phoenix's live sets - and he takes it to a strange and sombre place, with plenty of downbeat electronics and piano. It's far removed from the original, with its Para One production and frenetic pace, but its still pretty great. [...]

RYSKEE

RYSKEE Ryskee is the new project from the infamous Frenchman Play Paul . And as things with Play Paul generally go, you can't trust that this is going to be good. New single Leave Me Amor is coming backed with some seriously good remixes courtesy of Raw Man, Dim Mak stalwart SPA and Play Paul in solo-mode. Scope that one below and add them to your acts-to-watch list before it's too late. Ryskee - Leave Me Amor (Play Paul Remix) [ YS ] MYSPACE

LIFELIKE

LIFELIKE There's a pretty special feeling when a new Lifelike gold nugget gets out, like a surprise present you wanted but weren't expecting. And this one's a solid gift too. Main-room beats wrapped in a loop of swirling technicolour synthesizers and done with the style and flair that only Lifelike can do. Give the gift of Lifelike. Dimitri From Paris Pres. FENECH-SOLER

FENECH-SOLER These dudes are my other most recent obsession. And if you haven't heard of Fenech-Soler already, get ready to hear a lot more because they've got a new single coming out on Alan Braxe's Vulture imprint, backed with remixes from Braxe himself and Breakbot. So get fired up now, this is party-ready electronic glam. I love it. Fenech-Soler - Black Keys [ YS ] Fenech-Soler - LA Love [ YS ] MYSPACE

PERFECT SOUND FOREVER: LUMBERJACK

There's nothing new and pressing to post at the moment so I figure since I've been spending some time with the new Kris Menace compendium (Idiosyncrasies) that we should talk about that. More specifically, about Lumberjack. Now that is a modern classic. Yeah, I'd call it perfect. I mean, it doesn't get anymore French than this. The rolling, building 2-minute beat intro, the scattered vocal sample and then those synths. Perfect perfect perfect synths there. And the refrain does not stop, it loops and twists inside your head for what seems like hours. [...]

SPARC

SPARC I've been praising the Sparc's fluorescent Euro-pop for months now , and here's evidence of why that is. His latest gem, Be Yourself, is another wonderful slice of pianos & electronics filter glee, which is seemingly becoming his signature sound. That sounds vaguely like ZZZ, but it's more focused on the steady breakdowns than obtuse piano obsessions. Check it out below along with what I suppose is now vintage Sparc. Sparc - Be Yourself [ YS ] Daft Punk - [...]

BUILD

BUILD As a rule, I dislike a lot of remixes done for the Teenagers . It's equal parts because the originals are un-improvable upon and also because the one exception to that rule (the SLUTTT mix of Fuck Nicole) has never been repeated. So skepticism reigns supreme when producers send me something labelled 'new Teenagers remix'. This however, is all kinds of good. Kind of like if the Teenagers listened exclusively to ABC 12 inches. So jump onto it. And onto Build . The kid is blossoming before our eyes with this and [...]
