What better way to kick off your Friday than with a selection of the best tracks from the It All Started archives? If I'm honest though, this is really just an excuse for me to repost all those tracks that I love and that you may have missed the first time round. It's high quality stuff, and there'll be more this time next week. Enjoy! The Hanging Tree - Nightjar | myspace Blessing In Disguise - [...]

My little brother first told me about the marvelous and literate music of Augie March several years ago, and now he's up and moved to the band's native land of Australia. While he's off doing things like abseiling near waterfalls and boating on the Sydney Harbor (someone give this kid a job), Augie March released their fourth album Watch Me Disappear over a year ago, and it slipped right past me. You can hear one of their new songs below (the new album was recorded at [...]

Every now and then I get all melancholy like and I sit at my dining room table, single floor lamp switched on behind me, a golden glow in the corner of an otherwise darkened room. Curtains still open, blinds half drawn, I type and dream and allow myself to sink into dark golden corner music. I'm holdin' you close in the back of my mind And raise my glass 'cause either way I'm dead Neither of you really help me to sleep anymore One breaks my body and the other breaks my soul [...]
This is the kind of post that I write when I'm feeling jaded and downtrodden and mind-numbingly lethargic. A short post about a track I know well, that requires little research, and keeps the blog ticking over until I find my brain and spark and inspiration again. This song brought unexpected tears to my eyes just a few short hours ago as I drove along a dark country road. There's something about the strings and the fluttery flutey bits that never fails to move me. You don't keep me company, You all turn out [...]

Last week Triple J announced its most recent Hottest 100 Songs of All Time countdown, as voted on by the public, and as is always the case with such things, I read the list with varying amounts of dismay and incredulity. And a large amount of "I shouldn't care about this so why am I allowing this foolishness to piss me off?" I won't bore you all with my pithy shallow analysis, but I will say this - while I don't mind Nirvana and I quite like 'Smells Like Teen Spirit', I certainly don't think it's the 'hottest song of [...]

While playing in the basement with Duke Jr., I saw this CD and on the shelf. Popped it in and remembered how great the leadoff track is. Aussie band Augie March has seven Arias (the Down Under Grammy), has become one of the best-selling bands at home - regularly going platinum - and won nearly universal critical praise for frontman/songwriter Glenn Richard's organic, non-gimmicky pop/rock songs. Reminiscent of fellow travelers Crowded House, Augie March still don't have a U.S. home for their latest fine work Watch Me Disappear . More on Augie March at DC here . As we wonder why, we'll check out the video for their "Farmer's Son": Myspace [...]
Aussie band Augie March has charmed critics and won numerous awards over the course of three exceptional albums of smart, bristling rock tempered with songwriting frontman Glenn Richards' charged lyrics and soaring melodies. That's why it's mindboggling that this extraordinary band, selling platinum and receiving seven Arias ( Aussie Grammys ) on their last album, is without a U.S. release for their latest masterwork: Watch Me Disappear . Perhaps seen as too literate for [...]

This week's episode of the Contrast Podcast asks us to talk about our favourite live versions . I had a few that I thought about contributing, but in the end I went for the divine cover of 'Always On My Mind' by Iron & Wine and Calexico. I have posted this before, and I'm not going to say anything about it that I haven't already said. It's gorgeous and that yearning pedal steel and that twang gets me every time . Always On My Mind (Live Cover) - Iron & Wine with Calexico [...]

Here we go again! This chapter of the countdown gets into some of 2008's spaciest, dreamiest territory in the continuing quest to get to my number 1 album and not have to write this list anymore (I am having fun with it, but damn this is a lot to write). The List So Far: 50. Fall Out Boy - Folie a Deux 49. Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul 48. Owl City - Maybe I'm Dreaming 47. Of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping 46. Counting Crows - Saturday Nights and [...]

Hey guys, remember that time my blog hit the third birthday mark and I didn't notice? Last week marked three years of Fuel/Friends' existence, and in those thousand-plus days we have had a lot of fun. As I say continually and every year around this time, I am humbled that you stop by to see what I am listening to or reading or exploring, and it has been my distinct pleasure to unearth some sonic gems for your enrichment and mine. In keeping with tradition, here are twenty songs from Year 3 that have been high [...]

I was out last night so I didn't get a chance to pimp out a video until now. But it's worth the wait, cos I have a fun one in store. Specifically, it's the video for Pennywhistle , the single from the new Augie March album (about to land), Watch Me Disappear . Oh man, I love this. Drink in the salty sea air as things progress from snappy-sweater-sporting fishmongering to a rogue pirate saxophonist and a full-on, jazz-hands dance sequence.

Okay, I'm a day late. But in my defense, I'm sick in bed AND gearing up for the third last-minute cross-country move of my lifetime, so it's been sort of a weird period. And in reflection of that weirdness, some weird (and not so weird, I guess) tracks: Watch Me Disappear by Augie March, from Watch Me Disappear [BMG, 2008] // Download for Free Here It's interesting that Glen compares this track to "There is No Such Place." Hearing them back to back, [...]
This track was recorded in Neil Finn's studio in Auckland and is the title track from the group's fourth record, which is due to be released in October. Via Sean .
One of Australia's most beloved bands, Augie March , will be releasing their fourth album in October. The record is called Watch Me Disappear and was recorded in Neil Finn's studio in Auckland. You can download the album's title track below. I'm not sure if this is the single or not...I kind of doubt it. It certainly won't hit that sweet spot that One Crowded Hour did. What do you think?
