As new albums go, few can have been looked to as much as this. Florence & The Machine 's follow-up to the hideously-successful Lungs is soon to be upon us; as-yet-unnamed, it's due on 7 November. Last week saw the first juice emerge from it: a fraught, stop-start number called What The Water Gave Me. And my first impressions are that it's... not much different from anything on Lungs. Perhaps there's a little more intensity, a more whole, all-in sound, a few more samples and quirks; but mostly this is the same intenso-pop with the same pagan-esque symbolic lyrics, the same fondness for [...]

It's the final Bank Holiday for, like, ever. It's cloudy and grey. I was feeling depressed and sorry for my lot, and then I found out that Catherine, one of the finest people I know, has had health news that positively proves God's existence. Congratulations Cattie - this one's for you... Circ - Pale Sand Beach Screw you - summer's not over yet. pale sand beach by CIRC Kate & Max - The [...]

There's always a moment at a festival, somewhere late in the afternoon, where you feel a bit drunk, a bit bleary-eyed, a bit phlegmatic, a bit chilled out, a bit (hopefully) sundrunk, a bit happy. This new Fair Ohs (née Thee Fair Ohs) track sounds just like that moment. [There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Here's this week's video round-up: Male Bonding - Tame The Sun (Live) To (lazily) quote from SEXBEAT : "Male Bonding‘s follow up to their debut LP is out on 29 August via Sub Pop . To celebrate, they will be releasing a video each of the remaining days taken from their recent album playback show at the Buffalo Bar, filmed by Conan Roberts. The first installment is Tame The Sun." [There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Visit the blog entry to see the [...]

Frenetic, intense pop meets an equally furious appetite for fun in this first offering from new London outfit Black Casino & The Ghost . It's a sort of kick-ass rock anthem fuelled by Elisa's forceful vocals, reminiscent in a way of Lush and No Doubt. London weirdsters Vision Fortune have uploaded two new songs to their Soundcloud - and, if anything, the band seems to be getting stranger. Part drag and part drone, they're like an super-industrialised, adult version of Vondelpark, all weird and aggressive vocals and distorted beats. They sound, in short, like a really bad drug trip. And yet, unexpectedly, there's something quite appealing about that. GLAZER by VISION FORTUNE SEVEN SAINTS by VISION FORTUNE

Oh the new girlfriend's coming round for the first time? Easy: turn those lights down low, change into something sleek and slinky, crack open on a fine wine and slip on the choppy r'n'b/dub sounds of new London duo AlunaGeorge . Sex = guaranteed. We Are Chosen by AlunaGeorge AlunaGeorge - Double Sixes ( mp3 )

Here's this week's Monday Music, the one post per-week where SOIWT drops its London-only focus: Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know (Feat. Kimbra ) Break-up songs are usually full of spice and spite, but this one's all perky and pretty. Weirdly, though, the dainty keyboard hops and the library-quiet vocals make Australian multi-instrumentalist Gotye's pain all the more stirring. Welcome to the new-look, relaunced Some Of It Was True! Hope you like the fresh lay-out. There's now a permanent music player, filled with SOIWT's favourite recent tunes, and a generally sexier feel. We're still wrestling with the theme on various display issues though, so please bear with me for a couple of days. In the meantime, here are Veronica Falls neatly transforming Rocky Ericsson's punk song Starry Eyes into a saccharine and sober Sunday-night lament. Here's a nice jerky, jaunty, joyous popsicle, new from Evryone , whipping up a happy wind that'll sail you into the weekend the right way. i/c/a/r/u/s by Meanwhile

If you think of music as a big hexagon, with the mainstream pop precisely needled in the middle, then London musician Infinite Light lurks on one of the outer limits, as far out as you can go, in a bleak corner among the shadows and strange-os and hopelorn. Avant-garde doesn't cover it: his music, sirens to long-departed gods and ghosts, poetry that no-one but the poet gets. [There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Autumn's coming and here's some autumnal music - the sorts of elegant, richly-textured songs best suited to cardigans, window-gazing and foetal positions where you hug knees to chest. Klak Tik are the brainchild of Søren Bonke, a singer/songwriter/multi-instru mentalist once of Copenhagen, but now firmly ensconced in East London. Their music is released through Safety First Records . And no, I've no idea what a Tomme Domme is. Klak Tik - Must We Find a Winner by Safety First Records

There's an appealing freshness and some terrifically fraught, vintage-rock-song guitar-licking going on in this indie number from Surrey's The Stanley Blacks, even if it is a tad by-the-numbers. They supported The Kinks last year and their new album, out this summer, should ensure regular plays on Absolute Radio. [There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. It's late, I'm depressed and - well, let's just get to the music: Portugal The Man - So American But here's a song to cheer anyone up - from the psychedelic pop-producing Portland band's new album. I've been sent a couple of really nice remixes from London producer Becoming Real lately - each trying to outweird the other: Dam Mantle - Meet Me In The Ambulance (Becoming Real remix) by GETME! Blonde Redhead - Here Sometimes (Becoming Real Remix) by Anorak London

Whenever I go through Swiss Cottage tube station, her local ones, I look up to see if she's getting on my train. I've no idea what I'd say if she did, and I actually don't want to see her, but then again I do want to see her, I desperately want to see her. I'm a cigarette and she's the only lighter in the world - without her, there's nothing for me. But she doesn't get on, the doors shut, the train pulls away and I frown, so very unhappy and so very silly. Sleepwalkers [...]

Haven't you heard? Summer's over. All we've got now is nine months of shivering indoors, listening to dreamy bedroom indie, like this from new London band Being There . And that's no bad thing. Being There - Tomorrow ( mp3 )
The guitars swarm and scramble. The drum's tapped portentously. The bass kicks in like an angry wasp, growling around, looking for trouble. Something big's about to happen, I think. Then it does. This is the epic, compelling, sexy world of new London rock band Binary . [There is a video that cannot be displayed in this feed. Visit the blog entry to see the video.] Binary - Turquoise ( mp3 )

Ah, Field Day. A strange mixture: it rained, and then was boiling. The beers were crazily expensive, but the food relatively affordable in comparison. And the music sounded awful on some stages and brilliant on others; while some acts looked like they wanted to be anywhere but Victoria Park, others looked happy as heaven. Zola Jesus took the honours for me, but it was a close-run thing. Anyway, bruised and abused, here's a weary edition of Monday Music: Acid Glasses - My Pale Garden Hey man, take it easy, drink some of this.. [...]

I've got to do boring, mundane things - ironing, washing, organising - tonight but they can wait. For now, I want to lie back, eyes glazed and smile fixed, and try to remember the weekend's many highs.
