Some artists work tirelessly on honing a certain sound, becoming known for their defined, polished take on a particular genre. Others though, are content to keep their options open, making house one day, hip hop the next, or combinations of many different styles. Brian d’Souza is one such artist who likes to mix it up. Having already built up Highlife, a successful night in Glasgow, the Scottish producer released the infectious Goan Highlife 10” on the freshly minted Huntleys & Palmers label at the beginning of 2011. Its strains of African percussion, Indian flavors and an unmistakable nod in the [...]

Portugese duo Photonz have been very busy of late releasing brilliant material for the likes of Unknown to the Unknown and Don't Be Afraid but they're still finding time to keep their One Eyed Jacks imprint on the go. The labels first outing of 2013 comes courtesy of Igor Inácio AKA Roundhouse Kick and it's a killer two tracker that ensures you'll be keeping an eye on the producer from here on in. The title track kicks things off and its a lovely moody electro-esque number [...]

The good people over at Radio 1 don’t dick around, so when they slap the word “essential” on something, you know they’re for realzies. Not to mention, HOT CHIP have been purveyors of the quintessentially retro-cool since I was in high school, and are nigh on guaranteed to know what’s up. (Listen Hot Chip's dancerfloor smash 'Night and Day' HERE ) In their Essential Mix, there’s a little bit of Prince , a little bit of Cameo [...]

So the english summer is taking its sweet fucking time in starting and I'm pretty sure that this is having a crappy knock on effect for peoples thoughts of summer London fun. Well Im here to try and get at least a bit of hype with all this gloom lingering about. (Be prepared for lots of positive adjectives.) So regardless of the weather there are things to look forward this month and one of those yearly moments on the London calendar is the Lovebox Festival which is now in its tenth year. 2012 sees Lovebox’s programming [...]

Pearson Sound has made a huge impact on the bass community in recent years. Pearson Sound has made a huge impact on the bass community in recent years. Better known as Ramadanman , his work as Pearson Sound seems to transcend the perilous gap between heavy club-oriented production, and the thoughtful, emotional production that artists spend a life time perfecting. With tight, heavily programmed percussion, thick, warm bass, and that elusive cymbal that fades in and out of his tracks, Pearson Sound has developed an unmistakable sound. Whether it is an original track, re-fix, or remix, his distinct touch is almost immediately recognizable. [...]

Taken off the Crystal Fighter's single "Plage" and remixed by Auntie Flo . It's a really fun and energetic mix, manipulating that "folktronica" sound into something a bit more heavy-hitting. MP3: Plage (Auntie Flo Remix) by Crystal Fighters After not finishing anything for just over a year Cockney Nutjob decided to revisit his edit of 'Hypnotize' by the legend Notorious BIG, for a track he refers to as 'Sicker Than Your Average.' He's currently hooked on the fresh sounds of Ghetto Funk so thought it [...]

We are in real need of a sugar buzz this weekend after a hard week at work. The 802s provided many such snacks, none more so that the Refreshers sweets. You can still seek these out of your teeth can take it. Why not lets this weeks house selection refresh your ears. We were put onto Matthew Kyle by Ali Herron of Ooft! Music for his house productions. When we checked out his Soundcloud we found this dubbed out reefer number as a free giveaway that we though rude not to share. [...]

Initially a Glasgow based club night, Hunters & Palmers has since taken their party-starting antics to London and, more recently, branched out into a label. Their first release dropped in April from newcomer Auntie Flo (what I thought was a really cute and cuddly artist name… until I realised what it meant). His debut EP ‘Goan Highlife’ was of the raw and earthy tribalist ilk, but imbued with real melody and groove. The flip was a refreshing slice of heavily looped hollow percussion sitting behind a big kick drums and some ethnic chanting. The EP was just as likely to [...]

After the success of his "Goan Highlife" EP earlier in the year, Glasgow based DJ and producer Auntie Flo is back with another excellent two track EP on Huntleys & Palmers . Title track "Oh My Days" is steeped in tribal rhythms with snappy hats and a more techy undercoat that has been gaining support from the likes of Midland and Ramadanman . So much so that both producers have remixed and re-edited the track. Lets hope those see a release. The second track "Choosing Love" is by South African [...]
