![[Video] Jambalaya Fest Recap](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/5012863_lg.jpg)
Last month's three-day Jambalaya Fest in Texas featured an amazing lineup of Tyler, the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, RL Grime, Zeds Dead, Big Boi, and G-Eazy. The promoters for the event, Score More , recently released a small video recap of the shows. The festival sounded amazing for Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt alone, but with big names like Big Boi and RL Grime attached, the shows must have been extremely memorable for everybody that attended. Hopefully the "traveling festival" will come to Chicago soon.

Big Bill is an Austin band I've never heard until this weekend when I came across their brand new A Hard Day's Bill EP . They are a hard band to define because they weld so many influences into one big punk-powered machine, but the EP sounds like The Queers, Buzzcocks, Superchunk, and The Dead Milkmen unexpectedly commingling in an urgent situation. A Hard Day's Bill (EP) by Big Bill Overall, the EP is fast, frenetic, infectious, and off-kilter. Lead singer Eric Braden (aka [...]

Julandrew , aka indie pop duo Julie and Andrew, has captivated me. I would listen to Julie Handy sing anything. Her voice alone is enough to hold my awe. Her other half, Andrew Phillip provides the instrumental everything to this dream set. Electric guitar, drums, what have you, he lays out the perfect wave of sound to carry Julie's lovely voice from lyric to lyric. I fell in love with Julandrew's music from the first song, "Black Hole" , where Julie's dreamy "ooh's" lull me into the mood of Songs to Dream By . When I [...]
![Marmalakes // Wells [Single]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/5011806_lg.jpg)
Marmalakes - Wells I had the pleasure of catching Austin's own Marmalakes as well as Wild Child open the other night for Shakey Graves – and let me tell you, it was a night for the books. Shakey was everything I'd hope he'd be, and the new sounds from Wild Child were absolutely stellar – and along with that I made some new friend with the dudes of Marmalakes while enjoying their solid music making. If you happen to find your city on the other leg of this tour you absolutely [...]
"I'll apologise, as this is the first time we've had to kind of articulate the album. Although then again, you're not getting the stock answers as yet! 'The funny thing is, that we'll give you the same answer you got in a magazine last week.' I mean they're never exclusive or anything – it's not like a press conference, or anything. That's the only way it wouldn't be! Maybe we should just do press conferences from now on... Wouldn't it be great if it were just you? 'Erm, yes! Josh!'" There's not even a faint whiff of the [...]

The only disappointing thing about The Harms is that after streaming their two songs, as with anything great, I needed more. Their psychedelic sound mixed with Chase Frank's hypnotizing, melodic voice redefines the standard of (mostly) girl bands. Even a modern day Odysseus wouldn't stand a chance against these self-proclaimed "Femme Fatale Siren Songs". Not only will their music entrance you, it'll make you dance. While awaiting the release of The Harms first full-length album, we can all get our fix with their first music video, " Take the Elevator" released June 3 and their next show [...]
The new single from Austin natives The Black and White Years comes as a precursor to their newly finished third full length album. The track, titled “Just Like Old Times,” features a relaxed mix of the shoegaze and singer/songwriter genres. The low-synth melody is cute, subtle, pretty, and shoe-staring worthy all at the same time. [...]

Lonely Child 's Bryan Ray churns out another collage of musical wonder with his most recent release, "Dead Life". The song reaches into dark dimensions of emotion both lyrically and instrumentally. Cacophonous middle measure illustrate a "dead life" with fleeting meaning as drums, piano, vocals, and more compete to be heard, to be felt. Despite the confusion, I find myself clinging to the piano as it laces around the phrase "everything's alright", which resounds through the song as the anthem of a lying subconscious. Listen to Lonely Child's "Dead Life" today and feel the song for yourself! —Written by Katy [...]

I saw Hundred Visions twice at SXSW, and they ended up being my favorite act at the festival. At each show I was asked, “Who are these guys again? They’re really good.” Damn straight. They totally rocked out, but the tunes were still catchy and even danceable. You can’t help but want to jump up and down and sing along. Last year the group put out their first LP, Permanent Basement . The record dabbles in psychedelic rock with songs like Walk Right Up and post-rock on The Light that Starts The [...]

It's a Sunday night, and I'm lounging on my balcony listening to The Decade Show 's debut album Sure for the tenth time this week. I begin to drift and over analyze a few personal things: a job contract that's ending soon, which direction to take my family after it ends, and many other things related to my unsure future. I know this is a direct result of being a "late bloomer," making bad choices, and only recently crawling out of the abyss of my late twenties, but turning 30 brings on its [...]

Besides being stuck in my head in a good way, Exit 's music evoked many musical memories in me. Listening to " Looking Glass ", I thought of the dark, breathy lyrics of Smile Empty Soul. Then, in their song "Alicia Marie", the perfectly harmonized guy/girl duo reminds me of Lydia's music. Whether it's a demonstration of darkwave, alternative, or indie rock influences, they come together to form Exit's glorious gothic sound that, as I said, gets stuck in your head in a good way. Check out Exit June 15 at Frank with Love Hate Affair and [...]

Misay Day is a straight-up folk band. In their video for 91.7's Local Live in-Studio, they perform "Wetlands" and of the three instruments they play, one is indeed a saw. And you know what? It works! It really works. In some instances folk music can seem too traditional, almost stagnant, but Misay Day's alternative folk music is alive and kicking. The first time I heard "Imaginary Blues" and Kate Robberson came in, my mind went right to Regina Spektor's "Consequence of Sounds". The songs radiate with Robberson and Spektor's classic voices and cute inflections. This [...]
