Click image to download full album Sounds like: Autolux, The Joy Formidable, Manchester Orchestra "Silversun Pickups - Seasick" What's so good? I remember the first time Silversun Pickups crossed my radar and I found myself wondering: is that a boy or a girl?! Like almost everyone else, I now realize that it is indeed a man by the name of Brian Aubert. Silversun Pickups recently jumped in on the Black Friday / Record [...]

Autolux give Danish pop-trio Giana Factory 's "Pixelated Truth" a makeover -- which includes an added sheen of sparkling electronica, pops and whizzes, and a moving rhythm. The 7" single is out now and features the original backed with this excellent Autolux remake. "This is the song from the Giana Factory debut that contains the lyric "…by the way somebody please save the youth…" for which the album was named. [...]
Will Croucher, meet everyone. Everyone, this is Will Croucher. Multi-instrumentalist. Southern gentleman. Shoegaze aficionado.

Any reasons I have to post anything and everything about my favorite Art/Experimental/Noise/Shoegaz e rock band Autolux I take. It's been almost a year now since the release of "Transit Transit", their quite underrated sophomore album. Even I, ardent Autolux fan that I am, took a few listens to REALLY get into this opus. But now that it's been a year since [...]

[As this steamy week comes to an end, it's time to raise a glass and wish Beck a happy birthday ...] Your fine Friday fare: ► Autolux and Superhumanoids do a special show at the Skirball Center as part of a program titled "Into the Night: Music and Magic" in conjunction with the exhibitions "Houdini: Art and Magic" and "Masters of Illusion: Jewish Magicians of the Golden Age." Expect strolling magicians, random trickery and, of course, [...]
The story goes that punk was reborn on June 4, 1976. The Sex Pistols' first-ever gig at Manchester's Lesser Free Trade Hall was attended by only 40 some people, but nearly everyone went on to do huge things musically. Steven Morrissey and Mark E. Smith later went on to form the Smiths and the Fall, respectively. Peter Hook and Bernard Sumner met a kid named Ian Curtis there, bought their first guitars the morning after, and went on to form Joy Division. Also in attendance were founding members of the Buzzcocks and Tony Wilson, founder of Factory Records, home to [...]

As we mentioned a month ago, that silly action movie Sucker Punch has an action-packed soundtrack, one that may be the only thing we remember about the film in a year. It's made up of nine very hip covers, one of which we now have streaming (via Some Kind of Awesome ). Two of the rockingest ladies in the biz today, Alison Mosshart of The Kills/The Dead Weather and Autolux drummer Carla Azar , put together a seven-and-a-half-minute interpretation of "Tomorrow Never Knows", the psychedelic classic off The Beatles' Revolver [...]

Although the film may be disappointing (from what I've heard in reviews and from friends) the soundtrack to Zach Snyder's film Suckerpunch is pretty awesome. The soundtrack features remixes and covers of classic hits like Skunk Anansie's remix of Bjork's "Army of Me" as well as her cover of The Stooges "Search and Destroy" also Emily Browning covering Eurythmics' classic "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)", The Pixies' "Where Is My Mind?" and The Smiths' "Asleep". But the most stand out song from that soundtrack has to be The Dead Weather/The Kills' very own Alison Mosshart alongside Carla Azar [...]
Autolux mines some part of the subconscious which seems to confuse people. My brother swears they are heavy metal, my friend George swears they are a Radiohead ripoff, the guy behind me at the show in his Ed Hardy shirt yelling "Ya Brah!" at the stage then trying to pick a fight with me...well I'm not sure what he thinks. In any case, Autolux never seem confused about what they are up to, and at a packed Echoplex show on March 4th they laid their precise modern dark violence poetry onto everyone. And everyone was amazed. Photos by Ward [...]

Kicking off the first weekend in March: ► Releasing an album, "Gemini," followed by an EP, "Golden Haze," Virginia's Wild Nothing won a lot of indie hearts last year. Songwriter Jack Tatum and band bring their dream-pop to this month's installment of First Fridays at the Natural History Museum, where they are support by L.A.'s Abe Vigoda. ► Autolux headlines the Echoplex, with noisy newbies the Soft Moon — that's their video for "Circles," above — opening. ► The Elephant 6 Holiday Surprise Tour hits the [...]

I've got a couple of pairs of tickets to give away for the Autolux show this Friday at the Echoplex. The Soft Moon opens the show. If you've never seen Autolux, I highly recommend checking them out. Really good live band. What I've heard from the Soft Moon is cool too (with a cold/krauty/Joy Division vibe). To win these tickets email me [dukeufo at gmail] with the name of your favorite record of the new year. Please put "Autolux Contest" in the subject line. The contest closes Thursday at [...]
