As much as the expression's strange, it's easy to see why South London duo Gentle Friendly 's sound is described as "junked up". Their songs can sound at time like a hastily-glued-together set of sounds and vocals spat out at random by a sample machine: jarring and jagged. But gradually these noises become easier to digest, as if one as has attuned to the frequency, or learned the language. Lykke Li, joined by First Aid Kit on background vocals, performed a chilling and gothic version of "Silent My Song" from her latest album Wounded Rhymes on the Late Show with David Letterman. While this track, which closes the album, isn't even one of the stronger songs on the collection, her and the Söderberg sisters manage to haunt the Ed Sullivan Theater. The highly overlooked, Nifkin , released his debut album today entitled, Caught Me Red-Bearded . The 10-track piece subdues itself in minimalistic soundscapes and obscuring rhythms that sum up a very nice first masterpiece by the man. Highly doubtful at first, the collection carries itself towards tracks like, 'Rawist Dub', where dark dubby bass rackets and hubbubs enter the listening atmosphere, forming an uplifting complex of sound. This complex echoes for acres in Molle's compositions. He showcases everything in raw and gritty audible form making a nice continuation of solid tunes, beginning to end. [...]
