It's the peak of summer and in the quest for cooler memories, take yourself back to the Bacardi NH7 Weekender 2012 in Pune. At the Jack and Jones Other Stage, a surprisingly large variety of acts gave us some memorable performances but one act that might have gone under the radar for most scenesters is Mumbai pop-rock act Carlton and The Saints (read about them at the Weekender here ). The quintet is fronted by Carlton Vaz who was a singer-songwriter for a few years before forming the band. Carlton and The Saints are releasing their new album [...]

Bangalore on Sunday got exactly what they asked for - massive sounding guitars, some serious shredding, double bass blast beats, and a whole lot of headbanging. Day two of the Bacardi Black Rock Arena at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender 2012, Bangalore, served up metal like it was coming from an endless body of molten lava. Prog, death, extreme, metalcore, thrash, even a dose of hip-hop, and then what's come to be known as djent. Read on for a full roundup of the day's events. Goddess Gagged started the day off at [...]

Day two at the Bindass Fully Fantastic Stage truly lived up to the stage's name. With a slow start escalating to the level of fantastic with Swarathma's set, and peaking with the beautiful closing performance by PINKNOISE, the second day's proceedings were just what the doctor ordered to round off the third and final edition of the Bacardi NH7 Weekender 2012. The Shakey Rays Chennai alt-rockers The Shakey Rays kicked off the proceedings at the Bindass Fully Fantastic stage, drawing a fairly large crowd for the first slot. The [...]

Day two at The Jack & Jones Other Stage saw an eclectic lineup of bare-bonesed performances by singer-songwriters from around the country, and Martina Topley-Bird. The Other Stage curates acoustic and stripped-down sets by young artists and acts as a breather from the big hitters on The Dewarists stage. At the Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Bangalore, The Other Stage faced The Dewarists, separated in the middle by the sound console tent. As soon as a performance on The Dewarists stopped, a set on The Other Stage started. 3Sevens When we spoke to [...]

After recovering from the massive energy surge that was the first day , the Eristoff Wolves Den was in for a calmer day two. A well-programmed day saw the likes of Chennai house group BLaNK and Arjun Vagale lay solid foundations for Austrian beatboxing group Bauchklang and the Midival Punditz to finish off a frantic weekend of EDM. BLaNK Chennai house trio BLaNK were a good choice to open the Eristoff Wolves Den on day two. They started their set with some ambient/house tracks which slowly drew in [...]

The Bacardi Black Rock Arena was easily one of the most popular stages on day one of the Bacardi NH7 Weekender 2012, Bangalore. The stage saw performances by Inner Sanctum , Kryptos , Blackstratblues , Parikrama and the headliners, American thrash giants Testament . Almost all performances at the stage were faultless and well-recieved giving the rock and metal fans at the festival a great day in the pits. Inner Sanctum The thrash metal band kicked off proceedings at the Rock Arena in the early evening. The [...]

Day one of the Bacardi NH7 Weekender 2012, Bangalore had an interesting lineup at The Dewarists. With world music by the Idan Raichel Project; a collection of musicians put together by TAAQ frontman Bruce Lee Mani; fusion rockers Advaita; folktronica veterans Papon & The East India Company, and British singer-songwriter Fink headlining, this was bound to be a big day at the stage. With few sound glitches at the stage, timely sets and an almost-steady audience made the experience worthwhile on most occasions. Before moving on, however, let's just say that Fink's headlining set was the definite highlight of [...]

The Eristoff Wolves Den on day one of the Bacardi NH7 Weekender 2012, Bangalore, saw a mix of different musical styles through the afternoon and evening, and culminated in a riveting performance by London hip-hop/dubstep act Foreign Beggars. Read on for a full roundup of the day's events at the Den. Ash Roy of New Delhi EDM act Jalebee Cartel , began his set at the Eristoff Wolves Den to a small but attentive crowd. Most of Roy's music was rather reminiscent of groovy psychedelic trance (a la GMS ), and [...]

Day one at The Jack & Jones Other Stage served as the perfect segue between acts at The Dewarists. While a couple of acts failed to impress, others surpassed expectations. The highlight of the stage was a stellar performance by The Staves, fresh off their gig at Liberty Theatre in Mumbai the night before. Gowri After a high-energy performance at The Dewarists by the Idan Raichel Project, singer-songwriter Gowri's set may have been a little too mellow for the audience, most of whom filtered away from the area. Accompanied [...]

The Bindass Fully Fantastic Stage is programmed to showcase some young, up-and-coming indie talent along with artists who've been an integral part of the Indian indie scene at the grassroots. And Saturday, December 15 saw this new addition to the Bacardi NH7 Weekender 2012 represent that description, um, fully. With performances from some great young indie talent alongside scene regulars, the Fully Fantastic Stage upped the hipster quotient at the Embassy International Riding School by a full 10 percentage points (this is an imperfect scoring system, but you get the point). Clown With A Frown [...]

I think trip-hop is a genre best listened to in the comfort of an empty room, possibly with a drink and a smoke to completely immerse yourself into the music, allowing it to envelop you like a warm hug. It's often experimental, fusing jazz, funk, hip-hop and electronica to birth a sound that's completely different from all these elements. This downtempo style finds its roots in 1980s UK, in Bristol, where hip-hop quickly fused with soul and R&B due to the cultural influences of the area. The signature trip-hop style was helped along by The Wild Bunch , an [...]
Meet Jerome. He's a French artist primarily known for the paintings he does with wheat paste. Jerome wanted to come to India and he wanted to make some art as well and through the wonder that is the Internet, Jerome found himself at the Bacardi NH7 Weekender 2012, Pune. He made the giant water snake that was in the middle of the lake at Amanora Park. You can read more about Jerome and how came up with the idea of the Rockness Monster here but by all means, watch the man speak about it below.
