This deliciously heavy and loud track—"Darker Half" by Backtrack has actually been my alarm music for the past few weeks. Live! If you are into hardcore... or even metal, be sure you check out Darker Half by Backtrack!

Backtracking is our recurring look back at the pop music that shaped our lives. Friends may come and go, but we'll be spinning our favorite albums forever. It's hard to imagine now, but 15 years ago, there was no Britney Spears on the radio. Nor was there Christina Aguilera or Pink or Lady Gaga. Apart from the reigning divas at the time — that would be Madonna, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey — the pop landscape was filled with post-grunge rock chicks like Alanis Morissette and Courtney Love, and fresh R&B female acts [...]
Newt may seemingly have Mitt on the ropes right now, but that's no reason to hold up your Pit Romney coverage! Here's the latest update on the hardcore festival season... After a 2011 announcement that didn't exactly thrill me, United Blood seems to have rebounded for 2012, if this initial lineup is any indication. Big [...]
And now, another installment of the hardcore festival news round-up known as Pit Romney! Over the weekend, the folks behind Seattle's Rain Fest made their initial line-up announcement, being the first of the Spring/Summer season's crop to do so. In addition to performances from 2011 fest alums Losing Skin, Oblivion, Rotting Out, Wisdom In Chains, [...]

Even though Aman Ellis has been busy with the release of his latest effort The Cacti EP, Vol. 2 , the Brooklyn producer has found time to create music for his disco-oriented sideproject AIMES . Check out AIMES' bootleg of Cerrone 's 1982 hit "Back Track," which slows the original jam down a bit and really dives deep into a funky groove. Here is the original track: <embed height="350" width="425" src=" http://widgets.vodpod.com/w/vi deo_embed/Video.15547502" flashvars="&rel=0&border=0&" wmode="transparent" allowscriptaccess="never" type="application/x-shockwave- flash"

Trapped Under Ice will be headlining a tour this fall with support from Hundredth, Backtrack , Betrayal and Take Offense. The tour kicks off shortly after the release of their new album, Big Kiss Goodnight , which is due out October 11, 2011 .
The incident that Kelis reported on Twitter where she was racially abused in a London airport? It now turns out she was in Spain : "Just to clarify, because apparently there's been some confusion, I was in the UK (as always) this time for Bestival (which was great)," she wrote. "I took a flight from Gatwick (airport) back to Spain so for those fact checkers that is approximately a two and a half to three hour flight. She added: "I landed in Spain and that's when the fat pink faced British guy who was on [...]
Anyone that knows me knows that I have absolutely no sense of direction. I believe that I can continue having no sense of direction just as long as I have the Bushnell BackTrack D-Tour. This personal GPS is cheaply priced (around $100-125) and provides buyers with a way out of any geographical trouble that they [...]

Do you remember The Soup Dragons? If you're from the UK and / or of a certain age (the certain age that means you actually remember buying albums on cassette), you probably do. If not, this band probably passed you by completely. Which would be a shame because, while Hotwired isn't necessarily one of the very best albums ever, it's a classic of my 1990s and can definitely still stand up tall today. Although I only really listened to Hotwired , a little research shows that The Soup Dragons were more than I [...]
Gorilla Biscuits, Agnostic Front, Sick Of It All, Terror, Absolution, Antidote, Maximum Penalty, Backtrack, Down To Nothing, No Turning Back, Take Offense and Bottom Out. Every single one of these bands i scheduled to play what is arguably the best damn daylong hardcore event of 2011: the Black N Blue Bowl! The names at the [...]

For many, many years, I've claimed that Pearl Jam's Ten was my first album purchase but it recently occurred to me - holy crap! - have I been lying about that all this time?! Not that my real #1, now that I see my mistake, isn't just as cool. My deception was accidental, I assure you - I promise I was not trying to look cooler than I am. Please. I freely admit I adored New Kids On The Block. The cool ship has sailed. So anyway, I recently [...]
WTF?!? As far as the No-Fly zone goes: disagreement between Obama and the JCS on what the mission and actual end-goal are and an enemy who threatens a long insurgency . I've read this book before and it doesn't end well. Welcome to the US's third extended conflict war.... Related: Filmmaker Michael Moore Rips President Obama Over Libya . [Fox News]
Though the year has only just begun, it's never too early to start speculating about and dissecting this year's hardcore festivals. The organizers behind the Black N Blue Bowl have already announced a date-May 28th-and are boasting of a lineup worthy of pants-shitting. Given last year's Supertouch and Yuppicide reunions as well as co-headliners Cro-Mags [...]

Hey, Hospital Bombers - where are you? I've never written about the Hospital Bombers before which is stupid, because they're one of my very favorite bands. I should've mentioned them way back in 2008-ish when they released their debut album, Footnotes - it was in the top 3 albums of the year on that list I kind of made but never published. I loved Footnotes immediately, but I think I love it even more now than I did then. But then they kind of disappeared. I kept checking, for a long time, for [...]

While northern New Jersey folks are inching down the parkway in search of crowded beaches, dingy nightclubs and exorbitantly-priced rental homes, the few, the proud, will be attending the Terror , G ravemaker , Naysayer , Foundation , Backtrack and Suburban Scum show at Dingbatz on Friday, June 2nd at 6PM. Terror just recently let Metalsucks.com peep their new track, "Stick Tight" off of their newest album, "Keepers of the Faith", which is set to drop on September 14th. Foundation, who just recently played the Warren American [...]
If you're one of those people who read this site every day (God bless you, you fucking masochists!), you may have noticed a lack of premium content from yours truly these past couple of weeks. That's because I've been in Japan soaking in neon, dining on fresh sushi, and recoiling in horror at the [...]

I'm both shocked and dismayed to realize that I've yet to post about one of my very favorite - top 5, without a doubt - releases from last year. Cast Spells' "Bright Works And Batons" EP came out last August and, although I immediately liked it - mostly because of David Davison's captivating voice - it took me a little while to really love it. It snuck up on me over time, one track here and there on shuffle, until I noticed that it was what I most wanted to listen to [...]
