The sun is keeping longer hours these days. While I welcome the incoming months of bright skies and rising mercury levels, I will keep my same late hours. It’s how I’ve always been. When I was a kid I would stay up late watching television deep into the night. I was fascinated to learn, at a fairly early age, that MTV did still play music videos. Granted, they were on at some ungodly hour. 2 or 3 in the morning or something like that. Memories of my afterhours music binging from that time are hazy at best. Surreal, [...]

The show is now only a few days away, [...]

So we typically toss a video onto a post when highlighting a new band or a show preview or something and let you draw your own conclusion about it. Sometimes we throw a change-up... strike that - let’s call it a round up. Most of these videos are of bands we have previously talked about here on Draw Us Lines, so we won’t be telling you much about those bands themselves, just some musings that really aren’t worth a damn. If a picture is worth 1000 words, then a video must be worth a million. Hold on to your hats! [...]

Benny Banks is on the offensive after signing on the dotted line with Warner Music subsidiary 679. Bada Bing sees Show N Prove offer up one of his most commercially viable productions to date, and Benny prove to be one of the least threatening rappers to ever mean mug to camera.

I've mentioned Talk Talk's final studio album before , but it has been a few years. Recorded in 1991, Laughing Stock and the previous album Spirit of Eden were a departures from the band's more pop efforts previously. These albums represented Talk Talk stretching their creative muscles by incorporating a less-synthesizer and more acoustic instrument approach, drawing from many music styles, but employing a very jazz-influenced approach. It's this overall ambiance and approach that confounded fans and caused a dramatic drop in sales. Much as albums from bands like Big Star and Velvet Underground [...]

Tweet At the time of Beirut's debut album release it didn't take long for me to find out, and subsequently feel extremely unaccomplished in life about, the fact that Beirut 's songsmith and main man Zach Condon was only 19 years old. Add into the mix the fact that he did everything himself just made me want to quit life altogether. At 21 I was chasing squirrels at 3am, stealing hoods from cars, stealing shoes from billboards, and stealing skating ramps from Universities and taking [...]

Having your legs spread out by a stripper called Marguerita can change you as a person...or at least, your views on Strip Clubs. What started as the best night of my life (entering The Sopranos' strip club), ended as a very traumatic experience. I guess it all started with me asking for a lapdance. Having no idea how 'things work', I just picked whoever seemed to have the largest tits (because I'm shallow). Unfortunately for me, she was the chatty type, leading me to find out things I had no desire to know; such as [...]

Words and interview by Brendan If you saw my review of the recent Sharon Van Etten and Iron & Wine show here in Pittsburgh, you know I had an awesome time. If you didn't see it, you should probably read it. But you should also definitely read this post. I still can't believe I got to meet Sharon Van Etten , let alone ask her a bunch of silly questions that I cobbled together the day of the interview because I didn't know it was happening until [...]

Words and photos by Brendan Yes, the photo above is kind of blurry. I, too, was miffed to learn that most of my photos from this show turned out a little fuzzy but, in gathering my thoughts and starting to write this review, I'm realizing that those photos perfectly capture the energy of the show. Any unblurry picture would feel too static, too complacent. Sam Beam and his travelin' Iron & Wine band were on fire, spread out across the stage and jammin' tunes for two hours like they wouldn't [...]

Live mixes are cool, especially when they are recorded at a strip club. From Leon Smith.... "Hey bro, here’s about an hour of a (three hour) set of mine I did over the weekend at Bada Bing stripclub in Sydney Australia – the club is half stripclub/half nightclub, so down my end there’s a dance floor and down the other end is the stage that the girls get nekkid on, I have to play for both the customers dancing and the strippers shaking their asses. This mix includes the club MC feed, [...]

I've often joked that it would be totally clutch to eat a bunch of shrooms and check out Sesame Street Live or have a Nick Jr. viewing party. This has not actually taken place of course, since the idea is probably more interesting than the result. So to that end, much respect for WOOM taking such an approach in this Matthew Thurber directed video for "Quetzalcoatl's Ship." You can find that jam from Muu's Way , an album we unintentionally slept on at the end of 2010. Correcting that now... as should you, via the good hombres [...]

A hearty staple in my musical appetite over the last few months has been Sharon von Etten's Epic. It's good ol' singer songwriter heartfelt crap, and it's lovely. It's also really fun to throw your voice around while singing along in the car, and don't worry, you will learn the lyrics quick cause they are very repetitive. All of the afore mentioned attributes of this album sound negative, but seriously are somehow positive on Epic. It's just plain good song writing. It's serene, beautiful, graceful, and subtle. It's country, no, no it's not. [...]
