Who isn't a fan of hook-laden post-punk with sweet melodies and electronic pulses? Well, you should be; you should also be a fan of The Bell , a group from Sweden who are about to release their latest record Great Heat through Badman Recording Company . Based on this first single, the album is going to be filled with really solid melodies, fueled by the band's usage of electronic flourishes, giving the band a sound that fits perfectly into any late night gathering of debauchery. It's got this [...]

I think it was the late-night debauchery at The Beachland that sealed this blog's love for Portland act, The Builders and the Butchers . The band's encore paraded outside onto the sidewalk of the tavern and the hoots and hollers bellowed loudly into the Collinwood air. We've been touting these guys since their first album. I actually thought the band took experienced a bit of a sophomore slump, so I've been stoked to catch word of the next release. Dead Reckoning will bring another 12 tracks of drunken sailor [...]

STARFUCKER B-SIDES (Badman Recording Co.) www.myspace.com/strfkrmusic In a move worthy of Prince, Starfucker changed their name to Pyramid, but have since reverted back to their original profane moniker. Perhaps Pyramid just didn't stick so well with the indie kids (we'll be the first to admit that it is simply not as catchy), and then...well, nothing, or at least nothing that ever really stuck out. As a result, B-Sides ends up feeling like a short collection that simply screams out "Hey, we're back!" [...]

MARK MALLMAN INVINCIBLE CRIMINAL (Badman Recording Co.) www.markmallman.com Why can't pop music be more like this? Mark Mallman's latest effort, Invincible Criminal , was just released last week from Badman Recording Company (his third for the label), and it's instantly catchy, fun, and enjoyable. Mallman would've been huge in the alternative rock scene in the mid-90s, but his sound still remains fresh in the late 00s. He's got a weird quirk about him that comes across in most of his music. Maybe it's the fact [...]

STARFUCKER JUPITER (Badman Recording Co.) www.myspace.com/starfuckerss Clocking in at 26 minutes with a slim eight songs, it's tough to classify Starfucker's new release as an album or a long EP. A remix of "Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second" and a cover of Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" push the record into that non-album territory, while solid new songs like "Medicine" and the title track "Jupiter" give a good argument that this could be a legit second album. [...]
