Frank Yang Though his punk credentials are beyond reproach thans to his tenure in Propagandhi , John K. Samson has always cut a bit of a curious figure in front of The Weakerthans . While his bandmates are more than willing and able to play the part of rockers in turning out muscular guitar riffs and solos, Samson by comparison has always been a bit slight of stature, reedy of voice, sheepish of grin; the thoughtful and verbose folksinger who somehow ended up fronting a rock band. I don't know if the [...]

Let's hope 2012 will be an amazing year for my favorite band! The Balconies finally relaunched their official music video for Kill Count . The music video was actually shown for one week in December in part of CMW's Facebook promotion . Here is the music video. Kill Count is taken from the Kill Count EP which will drop "Nationwide" on February 28th on Coalition/Warner (*hint* *hint*) .

Cass McCombs came to town to play an intimate set at Stubb's indoor stage. The crowd on hand was tightly packed into the cave beneath the restaurant, enthusiastic and respectful. The quiet moments were quiet allowing Cass and the band to fill the space. Helping to create that atmosphere was the spellbinding opening set from Frank FairField. . Just a stool, guitar, violin or banjo, toe-taps to set the rhythm and single mic in front to pick it all up. Pin drop quiet allowing the traditional [...]

Do you love covers? Do you love the '60s and '70s? Do you love independent music? If you answered 'yes' to one or all of these questions then Sneaky Dee's is the place for you tonight for Jukebox Generation. It's where Toronto indie band The Balconies will be playing a show of cover songs from the '60s and '70s to Audio Blood celebrate their third birthday (Happy Birthday!). Doors open at 9:00pm and cover is a measly $6.

by teepoo I hadn't heard this before, at least digitally, but something made me think this might not have been the first time I heard it ever . I feel I've heard them live in passing whether it be Sonic Boom or a smaller show as a previous opener for somebody. I can't shake the feeling of deja vu. Nonetheless, this is a great track that you would recognize if you heard it again. For the month of January, they are also part of Toronto's [...]

The Balconies will engage Torontoians in a night of 60s/70s covers to celebrate the 3rd birthday of Toronto-based music marketing and publicity company, Audio Blood . The celebration will be held the evening of January 6th at Sneaky Dee's - more event details can be found HERE . The Balconies, a three-piece band, is originally from Ottawa, Ontario and was one of Audio Blood's first clients. Their new 'Kill Count' EP is due out February 28th and the title track is currently available as this month's Coffee Shop Project download. What is [...]

Justin Broadbent In an age where many young bands seek to get on the expressway to your skull immediately after their first rehearsal - assuming they rehearse instead of just uploading jams to Soundcloud - you have to appreciate a band like The Wooden Sky . They've taken the time to hone their songcraft and live show since forming as Friday Morning's Regret in 2003, and with their 2009 sophomore full-length If I Don't Come Home You'll Know I'm Gone and its attendant endless touring regimen, have positioned themselves as [...]

Mark this down on your calendar, folks - July 14, 2012 at Downsview Park! I am still in awe with the stellar line-up of the 17 confirmed acts. Edgefest '12 has a little something for everyone...definitely a must-see festival of 2012. Rocking the main stage will be Billy Talent , Death From Above 1979 , Silversun Pickups , The Sheepdogs , Young The Giant , The Dirty Heads , USS and The Pack A.D. . This past year has been a whirlwind for The Sheepdogs - having just [...]

Please enjoy this little ditty of a Mix. For some time now the combined forces of Mark Caramelli and Paul Hargreaves have been causing quite a stir under their guise, Death on the Balcony. Their unique style fuses a range of influences from Disco, House to Deep Techno and everything in-between depending on the time, space and environment. Years of dedicated musical passion and an eclectic appreciation of numerous genres have lead to their sound becoming perfected and receiving huge popularity across the board. deepgoa.blogspot.com underground music guide _________ [...]

What a tough week it's been for jam titans Widespread Panic . Late last week bus driver Tom Torrisi suffered a fatal heart attack while driving some of the crew to Ames and further tragedy was only avoided when a fellow crew member sprang into action and pulled the bus over safely. And then, last night at the Chicago Theatre, a man that police suspect was drunk was critically injured when he fell 15-feet from the balcony according to the Chicago Sun-Times . Another jam packed October 27, 2011. After checking out Babes4Breast Benefit Concert. I headed to the Live Lounge to see The Balconies , Birthday Boys and The Gallop play. Wanted to support The Balconies when they return for a homecoming show of Ottawa! The show started off with Ottawa's The Gallop. I haven't seen them live in awhile. Noticed they have two new members. One being Phillipe Charbonneau who plays in various bands [...]
