![[Introducing] – The Sayitaints](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4029861_lg.jpg)
Tweet I can tell you virtually nothing about The Sayitaints . There are two of them: John Gudenzi and Marc Nieto. They have one track out: "Flutter" . They're from Baltimore? They like to pump 808s. From here on out, it's just my opinion. To be perfectly honest, you're almost as well just skipping this bit and listening to the track for yourself. But let it never be said that I don't like the sound of my own voice, so [...]

Been mulling this dudes shit for a few months now. Since picking up his 2011 release SWiSHeR on tape (Baltimore's WTR CLR label) his music has only left my ears for stretches at a time. The Aussie ex-pat, now based in Baltimore, has been footworking in his own little corner to some weird, fucked-up version of Chicago juke. The point is, it's completely alien from the bandwagon everyone else has seemed to jump on. This latest track is possibly a direction he could be headed for - deep juke. Starting in an ominous, brooding fashion to deep dubstep [...]

Photo by Quinn S. On Saturday, Cass McCombs performed at The Ottobar here in Baltimore to an almost packed house. The lights were off before McCombs and his four-piece backing band stepped onstage, and they never once came up during the nearly hour and a half set. The only thing illuminating the room was the 10 panel screen standing tall behind the band, displaying an intricate constellation of animated lights. Never seeing a single face onstage might have come across as slightly impersonal initially, but with the room dark and quiet for [...]

Been wondering wots got of the SISQO and his fellow DRU HILL band members since that one hit mp3 ? Last PM the he-rapper and crew took to Baltimore's Rams Head to perform a live show with a backing he-dancers THONG on wide offer whilst the SISQO took to the mic for that SONG.

I'm not 100% sure if I've consciously listened to Lower Dens before (I've a feeling Liz Pelly may have played a few tracks for me when she interned for State in 2010) but the Baltimore band fronted by Jana Hunter (whose name I recognise from scouring SXSW lineups of years past) are back later this year (April 27th) with a second album Nootropics so now might be a good time to explore. It's that beat to new song 'Brains' that gets me. That and the fact that it flirts with [...]

The last song I posted was a folk song and this song is also a folk song. If you read just my words, you would think I'm on some sort of folk kick. But just take a listen and you'll realize both awesome songs are worlds apart. Slow It Down by The Lumineers is rather rootsy. This song, Tumbleweed , by The Great American Canyon is atmospheric. The first is akin to Ryan Adams, the latter, and the one I'm featuring here, is more like Bon Iver. Originally from Baltimore, The Great [...]

Lower Dens – "Brains" Jana Hunter of Baltimore band Lower Dens has consistently been releasing some of my favorite music for the past 7 years, from two solo albums ( Blank Unstaring Heirs of Doom , and There's No Home ) to Lower Dens' 2010 debut LP Twin-Hand Movement and their fantastic 2011 single Batman (one of my favorite songs of 2011 ). Lower Dens have just announced a new record, [...]

Lower Dens , have announced some exciting news today. They have their follow up album to 2010's Twin-Hand Movement (due out in Spring), as well as a brand new single, entitled "Brains". This is incredible nighttime music, with a heavy sense of dreamy waves driving in the background throughout. Everything will change. Everything Changes. Do You Believe?

Baltimore's Lower Dens have just offered up a download of their new song. The facebook update also mentions a new forthcoming album. Jana Hunter and company will be playing the Pyramid Scheme on March 7. From NPR: The music of Lower Dens is dark but spacious and hypnotic, with swaths of feedback and echoing guitars. At the heart is Jana Hunter, a Texas-born, Baltimore-based singer and songwriter whose delicate voice haunts every song. Tickets . For an extended preview - watch/listen to the [...]

This is possibly the best news of 2012 to date. A bold claim admittedly, but when you consider the quality that the last Freestyle Friday (FF) series dished up, a justified one. For those of you who don't know e-dubble hails from Baltimore and for the entirity of 2010 he released a free track every Friday that saw his passionate, entertaining flow masterfully laid over a huge variety of samples. There was "Class Clown" a story of teenage awkwardness and insecurity, "No alcohol to quell the inhibitions, we fight those with jokes about kissing," laid over a bouncy [...]
By Vincent Rendoni I'm visiting my family in Washington. I've only been at my mother's house for about four hours, but I'm already reaching for a couple of beers. I take them from the outside fridge, and speed past barking dogs and bickering relatives to my mother's deck. I close the sliding glass door and suddenly it's quiet. I light a citronella candle to fend off mosquitoes and crane flies, sit myself in a lounge chair out of sight from my family, and take in the sunset over Puget Sound. I have this one rule: I don't drink alone. Except [...]

Dear 2012, can we put on our wish list that PULASKI the band of Baltimorians make some more music for us this year? Whiskey and beer can sometimes coax the muse out of the best of bands in Pulaski's case it's the simple motivation like these except for maybe breakfast food. Ok they're prone to write the occasional break-up song like their classic "I want my records back" or the religious anthem the "Black Hand of g*d"? The inspiration is pleasantly misanthropic my friends so help reel in the vibe. They'll brew a song about almost anything using [...]

For as much as I love ambient music, it can be a bit of a one-trick pony. Baltimore's Soul Glimpse, the ambient face of Austyn Sullivan, takes what could have been well done but fairly standard ambient fare and pumps it up a bit. Typically, this type of music sets a mood for me, then leaves me alone to explore wherever my mind may take me. Rarely does ambient music effectively convey a strong passion or emotion, but Soul Glimpse does just that. The vocals become another instrument in the mix, blending seamlessly with the music and pushing these songs [...]

Yet again, it has been some time since my last post. I don't really feel that bad though as T3RR0R and the others seem to be providing everyone with a very healthy dose of vitamins. In that time I've been covering a lot of shows in both San Francisco and DC most recently of which was Fall Massive ( check out the pictures here ). That being said, it's about that time for another Smörgåsbord. - Whiteface New Miike Snow. Miike Snow - Devil's [...]
"Tumbleweed" is the first single released off of The Great American Canyon Band 's debut LP due out next year. I spent a solid portion of 2011 being obsessed with their Wild Heart EP which is still available on bandcamp on a name your price basis. Their music is earnest, endearing, a little bit folky, and made by a married couple, Paul and Krystal Jean Masson, just playing the music they love.
Tumblew eed by The Great American Canyon [...]

Happy in-between-the-holidays, everyone! I took an unintentional hiatus from 1146 Miles posts-partly due to Thanksgiving, but mostly due to laziness. It happens. But I wanted to take the time to introduce you to a band that, as of a week ago last night, no longer exists. You are welcome. Meet The Bridge. Hailing from Baltimore, The Bridge was arguably one of the most popular bands in town, particularly in the jam scene. They had achieved pretty widespread success touring across the country, playing at popular music festivals like [...]
