Two more bands are reviewed before I begin reviewing only the bands that follow me.
The first review in my series of bands who followed me on Twitter. A good start, I must say.
Old Lights Noon| Blue Stage By Kelsey Whipple You can't just casually listen to Old Lights. You have to really listen. Buried beneath the charming stage banter and the neat, occasionally ador... Continue reading "LouFest Day Two: Band By Band Reviews" >

When a group takes the risk of combining sound and vocal styling that initially seem to be polar opposites, it often threatens to make the compilation a "tale of two albums"-the best of songs and the worst of songs. However, on rare occasions, the risk pays off when the yin-yang concept gives the album added depth and diversity thematically and the unique and, at times, competing sounds complement each other in a way that elevates the album to new heights like Fleetwood Mac did with Rumors and Buried Beds does with their second studio album Tremble the [...]
After a long, terrible Winter in NYC, I can't help but think about the West Coast. San Diego's The Donkeys drop their latest single for "Don't Know Who We Are" from their new album Born With Stripes . Not many bands can say that they've been recreated in piñata form. So, if you're looking for something rad to check out, the video, tunes and tourdates "after the jump" Don't Know Who We Are by [...]
All days are pretty great, but this week has started on a pretty good note. Monday night, the video that I directed for my friends in a'tris went live. It's called "Over and Over" and is part of their weekly music video and song project that will help the fans choose what material they will use on their next album. Thanks again to the a'tris team for the opportunity and please check out what we came up with "after the jump" [...]
Last year, I saw Peelander-Z at Santos Party House and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to. If there was a Grammy Category for Most Entertaining Live Act Peelander-Z would absolutely be a nominee. So when one of my favorite live bands were added to the bill performing alongside two of the best (if not the best) 8-Bit/chiptune bands out there, it became a must see show. Check out my review and pictures "after the jump" First up on [...]
Here's the latest video from the amazingly rad Akron/Family . The clip is for "So It Goes", the first single from Akron/Family's new album S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT , which will be available 2/8 in the U.S., and 3/14 in the U.K. This weekend in cities across the U.S., Canada, and the UK, fans are hosting listening parties for S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT free of charge. If you're in a city that's not hosting a listening party you can tune [...]
With their debut album, Deadeye Dealer , dropping on January 11th, Dearling Physique have pressed out a fresh and wonderful new video to hype it up, kids. The clip just went live today and will be receiving a special ol' release in Minneapolis' Apple store (Why Minny? It's the band's hometown) . Now, let's check out the video and some more rad stuff "after the jump" [...]
Today, a LOT later than a usual post, we're posting a rad video from our friends at Secretly Canadian (we heart you guys!) for jj. The band's new video, for "Let Them," "features the band in a rural Swedish church with Elin Kastlander at the pulpit with a message to the congregation concerning the haters." Cool clip. Check out the video and more "after the jump" [...]
New Numbers , ex-Jealous Girlfriends singer/guitarist Josh Abbott and drummer Mike Fadem, will be releasing their debut LP, Vacationland , physically via the band's own label Musiques Primitives and iTunes on March 8, 2011. A 12-inch pressing on high quality 180 gram vinyl will be available through These Are Not Records. Check out the press release and more "after the jump" The self-funded, self-recorded album builds on the songs Abbott penned for the band's inaugural EP, Islands , and features [...]
Today's rad video comes to us from the awesomeness that is Keegan DeWitt (seriously, listen to this song and tell me these cats aren't awesome.) This clip, recorded quickly during a photoshoot for the artwork of DeWitt's release (out now on Theory 8 Records). "Reluctance" is the b-side on the Limited Edition 73 which you can stream in its entirety at Spinner . This song haunts listeners with its stunning simplicity and a honest-to-goodness gorgeous performance. The lyrics are great, but it's the [...]
Braids from Montreal once jokingly described their sound as "Textural groove-based aggressive pop" and has been compared to bands like Animal Collective & Caribou . But Braids brings to the table a fresh yet familiar sound of dreamy, shoegazy pop-driven soundscapes. While it's difficult to put a label on their sound, Braids was on many a must-see list during the 2010 CMJ festival. Fresh off their performance at M For Montreal the band is back playing a 3 night run in NYC beginning tonight (11/29) where they headline Mercury Lounge; then play two sold [...]
With "Gobble Day" coming this week, there's a ton of great music to be thankful for. Today, Giant Sand , whose Valley Of Rain has reached its 25th anniversary this year, are releasing their latest album, Blurry Blue Mountain today on Fire Record. The new record sounds incredible, but you should definitely check some tunes out first. Get a glimpse at the new material "after the jump" [mp3] Giant Sand - "Ride The Rail" [...]
Soundgarden, who reunited this year after a 12-year break, were the musical guests on Conan O'Brien's new show on TBS Tuesday night. I forgot to mention it yesterday, but we're here now, right? The performance is of their live performance of "Black Rain," a single from their new album, Telephantasm . I guess I am getting old enough to be nostalgic, eh? After the jump, check out a web-only video of them playing another song, "Hunted Down," which did not air during the Conan broadcast. [...]
Brand new, super rad video for Oars ' new single, "Karats". Friggin' ingenius. Check out the clip and more "after the jump" [mp3] Oars - "Karats" "In the spring of 2008, the unassuming duo Oars (David Bratton and Earl Muehlenbach) began an intensive six months of recording, song crafting and experi mentation in a closet-sized Greenpoint studio across the street from a fish-smoking plant. Relying [...]
Exit Clov are a Washington, D.C.-based indie pop quintet that rock like 90s grunge outfit L7 but whose pop sensibilities lean more toward one of the best Japanese acts from the same timeframe, Shonen Knife . Their sound? How about a bucket of Pop Rocks laced with Coke (not the kind that you'd find at Studio 54) . Also, they're just plain fun. Check out the clip for their video "MK Ultra" "after the jump" [...]

London's White Lies recently announced that their new album will be called Ritual and that it will be released on Jan. 17, 2011.
