![Crystal Stilts: Love Is A Wave [pReview]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1595161_lg.jpg)
I'll admit, Crystal Stilts self-titled EP and debut full-length Alight Of Night passed me by a bit. Don't get me wrong - I love the sound. It just failed to live up to the garage-pop that was Up Against The Legends by The Legends and was soon to be The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart by The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. But that has all changed. Enter "Love Is A Wave". Now I'm ready to revisit the fourteen-plus [...]
![Camera Obscura: My Maudlin Career [pReview]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1532879_lg.jpg)
So I guess Camera Obscura will be releasing their new album, My Maudlin Career , on 4AD. A few very long years after Let's Get Out Of This Country , I was just thinking about how the Scottish love pop collective should be nearing their next album release. And now I hear they are! "My Maudlin Career", obviously the title track of their forthcoming release, is pretty damn amazing. Not that you'd expect anything but greatness from these guys, but this greatness falls in a slightly [...]

![Casiotone For The Painfully Alone: Old Panda Days [pReview]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1500639_lg.jpg)
Written by Fense I've set strict rules for the pReview section; yet, here on the third pReview, I've already broken the cardinal one - listening to a single song from an album and writing about it. I cheated: I listened to Advance Base Battery Life , the upcoming release by Casiotone For The Painfully Alone ( MySpace ), in its entirety. The release is more a compilation of previously recorded rare material, but with several notable cover-tunes (from artists ranging from Springsteen to Simon) [...]
![Cake On Cake [Feature Band]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1337032_lg.jpg)
Written by Fense One of the first noticeable items about Cake On Cake ( MySpace ) is the name. It's a sweet (no pun intended) take on Bob Dylan's classic Blonde On Blonde . The two, of course, have little, if anything, in common. It's there; but that's not really important in the bigger scheme of things, now, is it? We're here to hear about the music. Yet again, here is a band that is immediately reminiscent of Au Revoir Simone. [...]
![Ramona Córdova [Feature Band]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1326119_lg.jpg)
Written by Fense Ramona Córdova ( MySpace ) is a folk artist. But he's a very nontraditional one. Like my recent post on DZR:P, Ramona tends to favor the falsetto voice, but unlike DZR:P, he tends to not only be in-tune, but he comes off sounding somewhat similar to Visit, the Asian opera singer from this year's season of Bravo's Top Design . (Note that the prior statement is meant as a great compliment; while Visit was somewhat odd, he was an amazing [...]
![Chop Chop [Feature Band]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1312777_lg.jpg)
Written by Fense Au Revoir Simone seems to have created a slew of impersonators. Recently Hearts Of Palm UK released an album that blended multiple-part harmonies and an emphasis on keyboards. What I've heard of that release, I've enjoyed. The same can be said for the recent release by Chop Chop ( MySpace ), called Screens . The vocal sound is quite similar as are the drum box beats, but the backing instrumentation is a bit plusher with selective stringed instruments from guitar [...]
