I know nothing about the following sculpture/waxwork/odd thing. Maybe you can help me out as it's intrigued and amused me since I stumbled across it on Pinterest last week. For now, I've simply named it, Siamese Banjo Twins :

You ever have those moments when you happen upon a song that fits perfectly with the thoughts you were right in the middle of having? A few days ago, a friend showed me the song "Baghdad Children" by The Horse Flies, an American folk/alternative rock band founded in the 1970s. I shouted "this is perfect!" and have been playing it on loop ever since. It's perfect on a musical level: I'm always searching for songs with a little "something extra," going beyond guitars and drums. The Horse Flies' style on [...]

For all their snappy indie-rock hooks, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down are activistic folksingers at the core. In this new video, we see frontwoman Thao Nguyen performing at the Chowchilla Freedom Rally at the Central California Women's Correctional Facility on Saturday, January 26 - which spoke out against overcrowding in the state's prison ... ![Morgan O’Kane // The One They Call The Wind [Video]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4719634_lg.jpg)
The chops of Morgan O'Kane are something ridiculous. His bluegrass banjo playing has a dirty delta style to it, without losing the prominent barn storming stomp. Getting his start as the all common street busker, he separated himself with his obvious skill and his character creating lyrical shouting. He's looking to release another album this year, but until then have a look and a listen at a new song, "The One They Call the Wind" - where he's backed by mother cussing church. Not many people sing well in church, but he's an exception. You can grab his [...]
Indie folk band Greymouth started the new year giving away the new song Paris, London. It features great dynamics driven by a very cool bass line, while singer Elisa Husu delivers another strong performance that dominates the song. An uplifting way to start the new year.
I already posted the NATCH recording of Zachary Cale and here is the first in this serie, by The Black Twig Pickers & Steve Gunn. It starts with a droning Hill Music/String Band thing on fiddle, banjo and guitar and with the second track Salted Caramel it shifts into a 20 minutes improv thing for string instruments and sound bowls. Vibrant and floating improvised psych folk. With knowing that BTP are connected to the psych-improv-noise group PELT that Jack Rose started his musical [ This is the summary, read the whole story [...]

It may not be as rough and crude as Dock Boggs but I love the fact that one more band in Finland is using banjo. That band is Greymouth, which is formed by three boys and two girls that shared the love for acoustic sounds, folkie sounds and Fleet Foxes. Recently, Greymouth spent some time [...]

Having already been to the world's most exciting places on his six-month tour of the world, it was only fair that Franz Nicolay visited the more boring areas t0o. I sat down with the multi-instrumentalist ahead of his show in Manchester to talk about everything from his new spit with Frank Turner, to playing shows in China and even about butting heads with the producer when making his new record. Yet again he proved to be one of the nicest and most genuinely interesting people I've had the pleasure of interviewing; and that's after he read my review of his [...]

The peculiar band name comes straight from an old Bob Dylan lyric and musically this trio goes all the way back to the time before Dylan went electric. Statues Made Of Matchsticks' formula is as easy as an acoustic guitar, a gentle banjo touch and beautiful female vocals. This is the type of music you [...]
I'm getting some solid summer vacay vibes from The Deadline Shakes' upcoming single "Sweeten The Deal", reminiscent of The Traveling Wilburys & Fleetwood Mac; Great melodies & harmonies, jangly banjo lines, and a sweet little guitar solo to boot! Grab a digital copy of the single on Flowers In The Dustbin due out November 5th. The [...]

The word 'struggle' certainly springs to mind when it comes to Franz Nicolay's latest effort. Though he'd already proved himself a fantastic songwriter on his previous releases, the former Hold Steady man turned to his fans in order to get his latest record off the ground. Thankfully, they obliged and Franz got to lay down the awesome new songs he'd been playing live for a while. Unfortunately, some things have changed in their transition from the stage to wax. Don't get me wrong, on a songwriting level I think 'Do The Struggle' may contain some of Franz' finest [...]
