A highly acclaimed group from the Pacific Northwest, Hurricane Chaser is a band destined to “make big names for themselves.” So said Clint Brownlee in Seattle Sound , a music magazine published in the city that Hurricane Chaser call home. Fronted by singer and guitarist Bred Zeffren with Derek Pulvino on guitars, Ben Obee on bass and vocals and Moises Padilla on drums, this busy quartet fuse a wide variety of genres into their unique sound. I immediately heard strains of Daniel Lanois in the way their debut record, The Map Is Not The Territory , delicately layers together [...]

There's a lot more to Irish music than the few typical ones you may think of. After hearing these songs, U 2 will know exactly what I mean! Check out these awesome Irish bands! "If you were here beside me, instead of in New York. Of the arms you said you'd never leave, I'd tell you that it's simple. And it was only ever thus, there is nowhere else that I belong. Come on, come out, come here, come here." New York by Snow Patrol General Fiasco- [...]
One damp day a parade began on the streets of Vancouver. A band of haggard musicians led by Wesley Krauss made their way through the city, ringing bells and telling tales of revolutions, devious lovers, and lost robots. Wesley's signature whine and dine vocals were complimented by the walls of guitars, pianos, and tubular bells [...]

British folk-rock duo Barricades Rise enjoy playing house shows, according to their Facebook page. I'm fairly certain that if these guys played at a house party, everyone would leave exhausted, sweaty and full of joy. And it's songs like "Making Faces From Clouds," from the band's latest LP All I Have Is Here, that makes [...]
In spite of the fact that Ireland is broke, its music scene has never been healthier. Or generous. Seemingly every day, there is something new on offer from Irish bands that stops me in my (browsing) tracks. Obviously Bandcamp and Soundcloud have made things easier for bands to put whatever [Read more]

The Outdoors is a band making their way to your speakers via Echo Park California who just released their debut, self-titled EP at the beginning of the year. You can download the new EP for free from their Bandcamp page, linked to below. Or if you're a fine fellow you can pay the $4 asking price. "Barricade" is the opening and standout track from the album with some obvious impressions heard from The National. From "Barricade" the album takes a more ambient and mellow tone. But by this point you're already sucked in for the ride so [...]

Well, this track here is unique, but i must say, i hear a bit of Matt Berninger (of the National) in the lead singer's voice. I really like this song, one that features a great arrangement that progresses from mellow to enthusiastic, drawing on emotional strings and whatnot and then just backs out subtly. Came across this one by The Outdoors today, titled "Barricades". They're an indie group out of California making some very charming music. I love this one- and if you like it, too, go pickup their EP for free at their bandcamp page . MP3: The Outdoors - Barricades Filed under: redthreat

"Barricades" is a song from The Outdoors , a band hailing from Echo Park, California. They sent me their new self titled EP and I'm enjoying it a lot. (It's available for free download via their bandcamp page ). "Barricades" is the song that really caught my attention right from the get go. I haven't stopped playing it ever since. It's an uplifting rock song that sounds pure and hopeful. It has a lot of breathing room so the listener can dive into the center and soak up all the beauty. It's also pretty catchy. It's got [...]

If you’ve been a fan of Interpol since their early post-punk days of Turn On the Bright Lights then you know what creative shift the band took with their third album, Our Love to Admire , and even more so now with their recently released self-titled album. Anyone who believes that the band has gone downhill since their first record, surely missed a revelatory experience at the Warfield on Monday. The show kicked off with their latest albums’ opening song, “Success”, a whirlwind of guitar slides courtesy of Daniel Kessler’s unique guitar work; Sam Fogarino’s [...]

My partner's only here for the blood, that is Florida’s Surfer Blood. After that I might have to keep her awake through the ninety minutes of the morose majesty of Interpol. There has been quite a bit of internet chatter about Surfer Blood and they are certainly different from tonight’s headliners. For a start singer John Paul Pitts is attired a touch like a public schoolboy but they also sound totally different. They launch energetically into their first track 'Fast Jabroni'. That is as energetically as a five piece crammed into such a limited [...]
