Thanks to all my readers for hanging in there during a year of insane schedules for me that made my updates less than regular. According to the statistics, I've actually lost quite a bit of daily readers this calendar year for reasons that seem clear. I probably haven't posted nearly as often as in past years and not nearly as much new music. Or maybe there's other reasons. But there's still enough daily readers for me to want to continue, so thanks for continuing to come. And if there's a reason you personally do not come by here as often [...]

Basia Bulat @ Mississauga Celebration Square: photo by Michael Ligon Basia Bulat @ Mississauga Celebration Square: photo by Michael Ligon As you may have guessed given my two recent posts, I'm trying to work my way backwards, posting photos/reviews of the shows I've gone to over the last several months, which brings me to the enchanting Basia Bulat who played Mississauga for the first time on August 26 at Mississauga Celebration Square . It was a solo [...]

While the Toronto International Film Festival occupied most of my time during the period of September 8 to the 18, I'd consciously took Septemeber 10 off in order to check out a arts and music festival called Supercrawl in Hamilton, ON. I'd heard of the festival for a few years now and had hopes of going but it didn't happen, but when I'd seen the musical lineup this year which included amongst others, Broken Social Scene, J Mascis, Plants and Animals and Basia Bulat performing with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra , I made up my mind quick [...]

Sunday was the last day for the Ottawa Folk Festival . The weather changed from hot to cold due to the incoming of Hurricane Irene. Luckily it didn't hit Ottawa but gutted parts of the USA. Mostly it was cool and windy. People braved the weather and came out to the workshops that happened at the festival. The workshops I attended were: Intro to Harmonica Cigar Box Guitar [...]

Part two from August 27th. Here are the evening shows that happened at Saturday's Ottawa Folk Festival . Things was picking up and there was a good diverse of music happening all over the area. The acts that played were: The Rural Alberta Advantage Matt Costa (Side of the Ravenlaw Stage) Basia Bulat (full review on here [...]

One of the highlights from this year's Ottawa Folk Festival on August 27th was seeing Basia Bulat. When I heard she was going to play at this year's festival, I was so overwhelmed and finally her music can fit well with that kind of genre and atomspehere. She happened to play on the Ravenlaw Stage. She definitely drew a big crowd despite the loudness from Tom Morello. She hasn't played since the winter time but definitely an amazing musician to catch live. Even I can't stop posting good things about her on this site. [...]

Here is the second album that I am reviewing the shortlist nominees in alphabetically order. It is Austra 's Feel It Break. Reviewed back in May 12, 2011 . It is one of the album that was a surprised when it was on the longlist. This album has been out for about five months and already gaining alot of buzz overseas. Now they already released a remix album called Sparkle. (This is my opinion, I feel like Paperbag Records is becoming Canada's version of Avex Trax but in a indie way when it [...]
Basia Bulat plugs in and gets in touch with her punk side on Ted Leo's 'Where Have All The Rude Boys Gone'
I do love Basia Bulat. Great voice + she plays her own g.damn instruments. Basia Bulat - "In the Night" Basia Bulat - "I Was a Daughter" Basia Bulat - "The Shore" — Basil

Caleb Beyers Even though Kathryn Calder had well-established her songwriting credentials prior to joining The New Pornographers via her tenure in the now-defunct Immaculate Machine , her 2010 solo debut Are You My Mother? still came as a surprise to many - myself included - for how musically sophisticated and lyrically poignant it was, while still being tremendously tuneful. No one doubted Calder was talented - holding her own in a band of such musical heavyweights was plenty of proof of that - but [...]
O projeto A.V. Where Have All the Rude Boys Gone? , sucesso de 2003 de Ted Leo , ganha aqui uma versão curiosamente fiel mas [...]
Review by Michelle da Silva (@michdas) Photos by David Thai (@david_thai) Beirut fans may now have a new girl crush. Ontario's Basia Bulat was relatively unknown (considering how talented she is) here on the West Coast. That is, until she was flown out last minute to open for both of Beirut's sold-out shows at Vancouver's [...]

photo by ti-rouge I made this mix for my dear friend Amy who has- as our friend Andrea put it- a clapping fetish, but it turned into something that I really enjoy listening to. As implied, the theme of this mix was clapping. When I started collecting them for the first time I really examined which tracks included actual clapping, synthesized clapping, a tight snare hit, or just a catchy beat and decided to include them all. Since not all the songs contain actual clapping, [...]
