Christiaan Felber The answer from many to the question posed by the title of The Vaccines' debut album What Did You Expect From The Vaccines was, "great things". That may have been overreaching - What Did You Expect was a solid bit of guitar rock that didn't necessarily pin them down in any one stylistic cul de sac, ranging from punky throwaways to stadium-ambition anthems - but there's no arguing they built up a pretty good head of steam on it before it all crashed to a halt [...]
This was an amazing week for videos, but not a great week for videos with anything in common with each other. Here's the only narrative I thread I can pull from the five videos below: Two of them are inspirational sports stories, though that's really all they have in common. So: Olympics? We'll go with that. Watch the videos below. Read More...

"A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men." -Willy Wonka Andrew Bird – “Give It Away” Just when you thought clowns were the creepiest part of a child's birthday party. Allow me to introduce, Pinata Man. Bat For Lashes – “Laura” Natasha Khan takes us backstage with a ballet-dancing transvestite in this beautifully shot new music video. Alright you perverts, time to stop gawking at that album cover now. Ben Kweller – “Jealous Girl” [...]

Ryan McGinley Though Bat For Lashes were certainly due to release a new record this year - 20092s Two Suns feels like it came out forever ago - it was certainly a relief when Natasha Khan officially announced last month that her third album, entitled The Haunted Man , would indeed be coming out this Fall. But cognizant of the fact that simply knowing it exists will only keep fans happy for so long, some more specifics about the record have been released. [...]

Artwork by the talented and generous Adam Sarpalius . The final list is here. We have been working on this Absolute (sarcasm) Best Songs of 2009 list all year, updating it at the end of every quarter. I was only going to have PMA's Top 50 of the year listen, but I couldn't narrow it down beyond the top 75. This list will represent and acknowledge some of the artists I felt had to be left out of our Best Albums of 2009 list. As always, I upheld only one rule [...]

Download the MP3 Sampler (.zip) 1. David Mead - Almost & Always On the MP3 sampler: Sicily Top of the pile for 2009 is the latest release from David Mead, a set of breathtakingly beautiful songs that barely break a sweat but leave a huge emotional impact. I know I'm not the only Mead fan who thought he'd peaked with 2004's magnificent Indiana - and, to be honest, the two records aren't stylistically comparable [...]

It's the most wonderful time of the year! And since you've all been such good ghouls and boys, I'm handing out my biggest bag of treats yet. I've added to last year's Halloween mix, and it is now a lurching monster of 66 tracks. You can download the entire mix as a zip file at the bottom of the list. I will be attending my fair share of Halloweeny events this year (I already went to a book launch dressed as Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas, but that's a surreal story for another time), including a Neil [...]

After 7 hours driving, the first drink goes straight to your head. The second drink makes the endless rain on the dullest roads a distant memory. And by the time Bat For Lashes finish the exquisite opener ‘Glass’, you’ve almost forgotten that you’ve missed pretty much all of the first day of the Latitude Festival . Even the fact that the Uncut Tent is pitched on widely uneven ground fails to annoy you. Sure your view is nothing but a sea of heads and the lighting rig above the stage but it doesn’t [...]

Today marks the beginning of the second half of 2009. We've had a marvelous 6 months full of great music and it's time to update my list of the Absolute Best Songs of 2009 . Well, it's not really fair to call this an update really - I completely tossed out the old list and started up a new one from scratch. I didn't stop at the top 10 either - this list spans the 50 songs that I believe are the best of the year, so far. But like the first list, [...]
18 months seems a veritable age amongst the crests of hype and thundering crashes of the music industry but Latitude clings onto the brightest young things of the British anti-folk/ alternative/ avant-garde/ uplifting lo-fi (delete as appropriate) scene, somehow foreseeing who’ll line the innards of our iPods before they’re even blips on NME’s radar. Yet around that period of time ago, at 18 I found myself writhing in a field inhabited by sheep dressed as hundreds and thousands, mysterious woodland orchestras and swarms of newborn mosquitoes from the pond around which the summer’s most ephemeral festival revolves. My ears were [...]

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds , Pet Shop Boys , and Grace Jones have all been confirmed as headliners for the forthcoming Latitude Festival . The four-day festival, which is set to take place at Southwold in Suffolk from July 16-19, will also see performances by Editors and Bat For Lashes . Tickets for the forthcoming fest are now on sale. Pet Shop Boys

The headliners for this year's Latitude Festival have been revealed early, and among those performing this year are Grace Jones , Nice Cave and the Bad Seeds , Pet Shop Boys and Bat for Lashes , among others. The recently created festival debuted in 2006, with headliners like The Lemonheads , Patti Smith , Antony and the Johnsons and Mogwai , and it has continued to grow in popularity since, having live theatre performances, comedy and poetry [...]
