Music (or any art-form really) can only be abstracted so far in a certain direction before it loses coherence. It is those that amble around the periphery that are deemed avant-garde. Battles' progressive-electronic-math-ro ck (for lack of a better classification) may initially sound like a jumbled mess, but soon it becomes clear how finely tuned the chaos is. • Battles - White Electric (Shabazz Palaces Remix)

Battles released a pretty awesome album last year. Shabazz Palaces released an amazing album last year. It seems fitting that the Gloss Drop remix series features a remix from Shabazz Palaces, who know a thing or two about a good remix . Their blissed-out remix for "White Electric" is now available for streaming courtesy of Warp Records. The rest of the single features contributions from Kode 9 and Alchemist is releasing on Feb 20. The second part of Battles' four-part 12" vinyl remix series Dross Glop drops soon (say that five times fast), and it features updated versions of Gloss Drop tracks from artists all over the spectrum. We previously heard the Field and Gui Boratto take on the challenge, and now you can check out Seattle avant-hip-hop crew Shabazz Palaces trying on "White Electric" for size, which makes sense because Shabazz Palaces are probably the Battles of rap. Dross Glop 2 is a 4-part 123 remix series, featuring the work of Shabazz Palaces , Kode 9 & The Alchemist . The songs have been taken from Gloss Drop Battles' 2011 LP. This is the second 123 of the series . The album will be released in physical form on February 21st. Gloss Drop makes for a very good foundation for a remix/mashup album because Battles lacked a steady lead singer throughout the recording process so the each song had to stand on its own without vocals.

As previously reported, Battles are releasing a four-part series featuring remixes of tracks from their Gloss Drop LP. The releases are cleverly titled: Dross Glop . Today you can stream another track from, this time from Dross Glop 2 , a reworking of "White Electric" from Shabazz Palaces. To be released on February 20th it'll feature other reworkings from Kode 9 and The Alchemist. Jump over here to stream two remixes from Dross Glop 1 .

Glass Drops was both a critical and commercial hit when it dropped last year. Great featuring slots, a constant killer groove and a fuck load of experimentation cemented it as a modern classic, possibly. Battles are following up the LP with a 4 part 12" series of remixes. Kode9 and the Alchemist are both set to feature, with the Shabazz Palaces cut of 'White Electric' continuing the ball rolling today. [...]

I'm usually not one for off-hand remixes, but Shabazz Palaces altered rendition of Battles ' "White Electric" is pretty on the spot. It's a little side-project for the group, who are releasing four separate remixed 12" parts of last year's album Gloss Drop , with plenty of good artists set to help out. I'll keep an eye on it, but for now listen to "White Electric" below.

Battles are in the midst of release a four-part 123 remix series called Dross Glop . The have already released the first part and are now putting out the second on February 21st through Warp Records . The second part features remixes from the Alchemist, Kode9, and Shabazz Palaces. We have the remix by the excellent Shabazz Palaces of White Electric below.
