Air have been making electro ambient music that’s as simple and necessary as their name since their formation in a suburb of Paris in 1995, and now they’re gearing up to release their seventh album (and their first since 2009’s Love 2 ), Le Voyage Dans La Lune , due out February 7. ![[Album Review/Listen] – Gold Leaves – “The Ornament”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3673101_lg.jpg)
Tweet Gold Leaves is the solo project of Grant Olsen, formerly of amiable psych-folk duo Arthur & Yu. He began work on his more conventional indie-folk solo debut, "The Ornament", all the way back in 2007, and the intervening years have been tricky: Olsen has lost loved ones along the way and, in a less tragic but nonetheless inconvenient turn, he had his laptop and musical notes stolen long into the recording process, taking him back to square one. So "The Ornament" has not [...]

Some pairings are easy, and others are a little tougher. The cilantro-scallion swirls that Kasey is featuring in the Kitchen this morning fell into the latter category. I spent literally hours sifting through my library to seek out a suitable pairing growing increasingly bummed out by the lack of inspiration. And then I stumbled upon Beach House 's debut album (the only Beach House album we haven't previously featured on TK), and I knew I had a winner. Crisp on the outside, but warm and soft on the inside, the textures and flavors of those savory buns [...]

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars It seems like Merge Records can do no wrong as of recent, with stellar releases this year from names like Destroyer , Telekinesis and Apex Manor. So it is not a big surprise that this record is remarkable, well produced and enticing. Wye Oak has indubitably grown a great deal since their last release, and continue to amaze with how fulfilling their sound is for just a two member band. [...]
To read the list from the top (#25), click here. I've spent a huge amount of time reviewing 2010 - and with this post I firmly ground myself into 2011 and pledge to get back in to the swing of new releases. Forward thinking from now on. I wanted to put 2010 to bed with a decent post however, so for those of you who have been following my lists as they (slowly) unfold, this is the big finale - my top ten favourite albums of 2010, hope you enjoyed listening to them as [...]

Hey dudes, here's my list of favorite albums from the past year (20 10 , stoners). I picked twenty this year as a small tribute to this being the first year where debate on how to pronounce said year swirled fiercely and ardently. Is it "twenty-ten"? Or is it "two thousand ten"? How to decide? Anyhoo, I ranked 'em, but after the first 6 or 7, it's all pretty arbitrary. The Suburbs came out on top. Can you believe that shit?? . . [...]
you want the best? Well i'll give you the best. *ahh...when i say 'the best', just to clarify, i don't actually mean 'the best'...i mean the best. Ok, so now that's out of the way (what?!), we can start this best albums of 2010 list. First off, man, some absolutely killer albums released this year. [...]
So 2010 is drawing to a close and the obligatory end-of-year lists are ten-a-penny. So what makes ours so special? Well...er...nothing really, but inspired by the notion that 'if you can’t beat em, join em’ we put our heads together to come up with our favourite albums of the year. Once the votes were in we put the results through the most powerful computer known to man...i.e. TJ chucked out the ones he didn’t like, and after the rest of us threw our toys out of the pram we eventually all made up over a mince pie and a bottle of [...]

50. Sonny and the Sunsets – Tomorrow is Alright 2010 was a good year for straight forward beach rock that drifted with carefree lyrics and concepts. Tomorrow is Alright took the genre into a more humorous and psychedelic direction and the results were quite rewarding. Just try listening to Planet of Women and not smiling, it's not possible. Beach House is my second installment of great albums I initially overlooked in 2010. For some reason I automatically lumped them into the same category as bands like Animal Collective and assumed that I wasn't cool enough. Either Beach House is either more accessible or I've finally discovered my inner-hipster. I gave up baths long ago because I didn't like washing my face with water I was sitting in, but I remember them being relaxing. Listening to Teen Dream is like taking a bubble bath without getting wet. It’s the perfect album for atmosphere – to [...]
Well - it's been awhile since I last posted due to a number of things keeping me busy, but I wanted to share a list of my favorite albums that arrived in the first half of 2010. Last year, there was a single standout album that stuck for me immediately and was never superseded at any point after it came out. In fact, if it came out this year, it would also be the best album in the first half of 2010. And that album would be............ Bitte Orca by Dirty Projectors. But [...]

From the drummer that accompanies, in my humble opinion, two of the greatest current bands in existence today, Papercuts and Beach House, comes Roman Ruins whose 73 single Pastor/Al is now out on Gold Robot Records . Like the two greats, Roman Ruins creates surreal pop music with a dreamy edge that is inherently cool. Pastor/Al is actually the collaboration of Graham Hill, who provides the musical aspects on the album, and Hunter Mack, who [...]

Just yesterday I wrote about the new Smoke Fairies album and how it rocked my world and apperantley this is a good time in my life, as a another album refuses to leave my stereo system. Tame Impala is a new psychedelic trio from Perth, Australia . Of all bands in the world that could be less geographically challenging, Impala were chosen to be the opening act in the current MGMT US tour. That means something about their blend [...]

Of all the many Sub Pop releases this Record Store Day the Beach House "Zebra" 123 was most certainly the most coveted. Everywhere I looked on Saturday folks were whining about not being able to get their hands on it. Luckily, I managed to pick up a copy on my very first stop, snagging it while others fumbled near the front of Sound Fix searching for the goods. I also somehow picked up a copy at Generation Records which went directly into [...]

Beach House burst onto the scene a couple of years ago with their mega-chilled-out second album Devotion , which featured dreamy, hazy soundscapes and chilled out fuzzy electro-indie-pop songs. On the strength of that album the band started to gain some serious widespread notoriety and success. This year, the band released their heavily anticipated follow up album Teen Dream . With the new album they have built a mroe accessible and listener friendly experience on top of the cool, dreamy feeling that they perfected before to give us a more focused and even better effort [...]
