After announcing plans for an indefinite hiatus following their sold-out show at Sound Academy in Toronto in late November, Wolf Parade fans like myself have been bewildered and dismayed. Much, if not all, of my musical obsessions over the past five years have come from the combination of Dan Boeckner and Spencer Krug that formed Wolf Parade back in 2004, right around the time I started this blog. In fact, Spencer Krug is almost definitely the most blogged about name on this site in its history, and rightfully so. Not only have I been obsessed with Wolf Parade for [...]

Looking at some "best of" lists this year, it seems as though some feel that 2010 hasn't been spectacular for music. Personally, I feel that it has been a really strong year that yielded some albums that will be in my "favourites" section for years to come. I had a tough time, but here are my favourite 15 albums of 2010 . I'm still a little iffy on the ordering, save for #1-3, and had difficulty narrowing it down to my top 15, so I've included honourable mentions at the bottom! [...]

The end of the year - CoS ' third on the Internet - approaches, closing a very exciting run. It has been arduously difficult to decipher the commotion over my iPod blasting a ton of new music, and for this, I am thankful. Let us cross fingers that the nukes don't come out blazing during the New Years' parties, or else I will miss the fireworks of a loony self-fulfillment. We could sit here and reminisce on everything of prominence over the past 365 days, and all of you gracious readers that strapped us into the [...]

Four days, 75 albums and now we arrive at our pick of the ten best albums of 2010. Thanks to our writers and photographers for contributing, we hope you've discovered something new along the way... Albums of 2010: 75-51 | 50-41 | 40-31 | 30-21 | 20-11 | 10-1 10. Vampire [...]

Here we go again. A glorious musical year ends. Full of exploration and extremes. Still writing. Still posting songs. Still ruminating over what this music does to me and putting it to words. Last year’s list was shorter and arranged at my brother’s apartment in Tel-Aviv. On the other side of the world, it rained incessantly. This year the list was compiled in this haven of mine on Park Road. On the first snow-covered day. It was time. Because precipitation and dark skies make me reflect. I guess. 18 is a random number, but it’s the most [...]
Sunset in the Rearview’s Top 20 Albums of 2010 Everybody else was doing it; why shouldn’t I? That’s typically not something I condone in life, because it’s bad to give in to social trends and peer pressure. Right? Right. Well, this time, I’m breaking my own rules to bring to you Sunset in the Rearview’s Top 20 Albums of 2010 . By this I mean my personal favorite albums of the year. I listened to several, and there are many that I enjoyed that didn’t make this list. But [...]

Best songs of the year is typically the most difficult list to make but also the most rewarding. There's nothing more indicative of a year in music then it's greatest songs, and evident from the tracks listed below, I'd venture to say 2010 was a pretty great year. To add some perspective and keep my head from exploding due to too much writing (it could happen), I asked Matt to help with the list this year. We combined our favorite songs list (carefully removing any artist overlaps) and came up with a definitive 50 best songs of 2010 [...]

It's that time of the year when everyone is putting together lists of top 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, etc albums of the year amongst other lists that get worked on. Every year we do a top 10 list with a slight twist, we invite friends on board to participate. The last [...]

There’s always certain trickery to making these year-end lists. It’s virtually impossible to please every reader, but at the same time, that’s not what I’m setting out to do. My goal is to simply present what has been in my mind throughout the year as I’ve collected all of these sonic creations. Sure, it’s gratifying to find a few people who agree with the majority of the lists ordering, but it’s never a factor in the decision making process. There’s been debate lately over the difference between labeling a year-end list as being the “Best” vs. “Favorite” – [...]

"When sober girls around me, they be actin' like they drunk." Who can't relate to a line like that? It exudes confidence, makes you feel good. In fact, you won't find many disagreeing that "Like a G63 was the feel good hit of the summer. If Far East Movement isn't on your iPod, you're lying to yourself, because it may be silly, but heck if it isn't irresistible. Don't get us wrong; we acknowledge that whatever hit blew up on radio in a given year isn't necessarily among the best songs in that year. [...]

better late than never. without further delay, The Wild Hunt by The Tallest Man On Earth. If I was compiling this list by the just the amount of times each record spun here, this record would still end up on top. The Tallest Man on Earth (aka Kristian Matsson) shines on his second album with his seemingly effortlessness, melodic sensibility with standouts such as "Love Is All", live favorite "King Of Spain" and "Burden Of Tomorrow". I can't help but recommend this album [...]
