While my fellow bloggers and all-around music loving nerds are spending spring break in good 'ol Austin, Texas for South By Southwest this week, some of us left behind in the cold, slushy weather are likely seething with jealousy. To warm us over and giving us something to look forward to, the good people at Osheaga released (after a [...]

Liz Flyntz If we can regard Beach House literally as their namesake, which is to say as a holiday getaway, a reliably stolid place to escape from the real world, then the amount of adoration they've gotten for largely sticking to their skeletal formula through four albums now is understandable. Their fans don't want them to reinvent themselves with each outing; they want that comforting blanket of Victoria Legrand's narcoleptic vocals and whirring keyboard interwoven with Alex Scally's languid slide guitar, and across their first two records - their 2006 self-titled debut and [...]

Their name conjures up what you'd expect " Beach House " to sound like - wispy, ethereal music that floats and swirls along, transporting you to a ocean side spot as you dip your toes in the sand, watching the ocean waves gently roll in. Next Tuesday, the Baltimore-based act will release their eagerly anticipated follow up to 20102s critically acclaimed Teen Dream , with their fourth full-length effort Bloom via venerable indie-label Sub Pop. The album is currently streaming via NPR's First Listen series . The dream-pop duo, who will play a record [...]

If you like Beach House, definitely give Memoryhouse’s new album The Slideshow Effect a spin. Dreamy loops, reverb-heavy vocals, and songs that grow on you the more you listen. The album is filled with many mellow ballads (“Pale Blue”, “Kinds of Light”), but the band is at its best when it goes a little up-tempo. “The Kids Were Wrong” is an early highlight. The album as a whole though, has very post-rock feel, in that each of the songs attempt to build to some great cathartic climax. Some of the songs are successful, whereas others are a little [...]
.. . Beach House - "Myth" - mp3 Holy Hell! How absolutely perfect is this new track from Beach House? That was rhetorical. As soon as I post this I'm pre-ordering Bloom which will come out in it's most-likely epic entirety on may 15th. New Beach House; check. Summer playlist; Check. Fulfilled heart; Check. Make [...]

Last Monday, in an early Christmas present to the editors of this website, #indierocknovels began trending on Twitter. For a few hours people all over the world engaged in clever attempts to synthesize their favorite bands and favorite books, arriving at some portmantastic combinations in the process. Our staff of wordplay addicts submitted more than a few entries of its own, and below we have catalogued our favorite FP creations, along with a brief synopsis of each faux-novel. We hope that we can entertain you as much as we entertain ourselves. The Catcher [...]

TREASURE ISLAND 2011 REVIEW Treasure Island Music Festival returned for its fifth year to the Bay Area, yet again, bringing an eclectic mix of bands on the rise and established acts. The weather was perfect for the festival, as it stayed warm during the day, and breezy cool during the evening. Much of Treasure Island’s usual main attractions were in place; the DIY workshop (making bandanas, beer koozies, and even dream catchers), vendor village for clothes and accessories, Silent Disco, and of course the 60 foot ferris wheel where people can get cozy with friends, intimate [...]

Day Two of Treasure Island Music Festival is always my favorite. The crowd is calmer, less drugged up, and slightly older than the previous day. Plus the music is more akin to my tastes as this is the more "rock oriented" showcase of bands. Again I did not have my DSLR, so make due with my new iPhone 4S pictures and Instagram filters. Thee Oh Sees Best WAKE THE FUCK UP Band – Thee Oh Sees San Francisco’s own John Dwyer and crew belted [...]

Boasting past acts like Justice, MGMT, Modest Mouse, and Vampire Weekend, the Treasure Island Music Festival returned to San Francisco this year with a whole new dose of indie jewels. Billed for the weekend? Such critically-acclaimed artists as Cut Copy , Empire of the Sun , and St. Vincent . Those in attendance? Pirates, indians, and aliens alike. Saturday was a time for raucous play and shameless dance parties. Dizzee Rascal , Cut Copy, and Empire of the Sun led the way, attracting the weekend's highest volume of festival-goers. Chromeo 's [...]
It was just one of those epic weekends here in San Francisco, and The Owl Mag got a bird's eye view.

Few things are better than lounging on a blanket in park, drenched in sun and with your friends. Very few things. One of those rare instances would be seeing The Antlers , St. Vincent, Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks , Beach House and Explosions In The Sky while lounging on a blanket in the park, drenched in sun and with your friends. Treasure Island on Sunday was more than expected. It would be trivial to try and quantitate the difference in quality between any of the acts mentioned above; they all are worthy of roses and [...]
Typically, day 1 of the Treasure Island Festival 2011 is all sunscreen and Ray-Bans. By day 2, beanies and scarfs appear as fall shivers in on the crisp sea breeze.

Saturday, October 15th Empire of the Sun "Standing On The Shore" - Empire of the Sun Cut Copy "Where I'm Going" - Cut Copy Death From Above 1979 "Sexy Results (MSTRKRFT Remix)" - Death From Above 1979 Chromeo "Night By Night" - Chromeo Dizzee Rascal "Bonkers" - Dizzee Rascal & Armand Van Helden [...]
The annual Treasure Island Festival is once again returning to the San Francisco Bay for its fifth year. Set to take place October 15-16, the 2-day bash is set to be headlined by Empire of the Sun (10/15) and Death Cab For Cutie (10/16). The opening day of the festival (October 15) will see performances by Cut Copy, Death From Above 1979, Flying Lotus, Battles, Chromeo, Dizzee Rascal, Shabazz Palaces, YACHT, Buraka Som Sistema, the Naked and Famous, Aloe Blacc, and Geographer. The second day of the bash [...]

The lineup for the Treasure Island Music Festival was just announced , promptly crashing the Treasure Island website and bringing down the Noise Pop site with it. Whoops. Here's the scoop from Pitchfork: The first day, headlined by (somewhat surprisingly) Empire of the Sun , has a lineup that leans toward stuff with dancey electronic influences: Cut Copy , Death From Above 1979 , Flying Lotus , Battles , Chromeo , Dizzee Rascal , [...]

Noise Pop and Another Planet have announced the full lineup for the 2011 Treasure Island Music Festival , and, as in previous years, this lineup is a doozy. As per tradition, Saturday is more electronically-oriented and Sunday more traditionally indie rocking, but both present a number of compelling reasons to attend. As always, it's great to see locals Geographer, Thee Oh Sees and Weekend adding some Bay Area flavor to the mix. Check out the full lineups below. What do you [...]
