As we noted last week , we were both intrigued and disconcerted by the arrival of the new Beach House video for "Wishes," which features the ever-terrifying Ray "Leland Palmer" Wise lip-synching to the song as he directs some sort of weird gymanstic-centric cult meeting in a sports stadium. It's the latest in a series of pretty awesome videos from Beach House, and it got us thinking about other bands who've really embraced the medium as an art form, making consistently great videos over the years. Here are some of our favorites! [...]

The first week in our 2012 Annual Report has come to an end. But what an end it is: our Top 50 Songs of 2012. For this list, we took into consideration the tracks that not only spoke to the year, but each respective act's ability to grow and engage their mind, genre, and sound. That might sound spiritual and what have you, but okay, maybe you're not a fan of dreamcatchers and stuff. Whatever. Feel free to let us know what you think, including some tracks you'll take into 2013 with you. Also, stay tuned [...]

Today, as you may know, is the release of the iPhone 5 and yes, I'm one of those dorks that got up in the middle of the night and waited in line to get my hands on the phone early (deal with it). In honor of the new device (which I'm completely loving, by the way, iOS6 Maps aside), I've made a mix of my favorite tracks to use as ringtones, which you can download below for your own shiny new iPhones or your old, outdated iPhone 4S. What makes a great ringtone track you say? [...]

Sorry for not having the music singles chart last week. It was due to being in Toronto for CMW 2012 . Here is a double bill of the chart. In chart #101, there was no change in the #1 spot but there are debuts of acts that impressed me at CMW. But Cousins spends #1 for the second week. In chart #102, things are changed since the release of the new Japandroids single. I had to make it #1 this week. There are new debuts from Best Coast and Beach House. [...]
It’s the first few days of spring, and I am crushing tough on the sun. Recently moving from Seattle to San Francisco, I am whole-heartedly stoked about the bright, glowing yellow orb that frequents the sky just about every day here. That's right, I'm talking some Helios shit. I know, you are thinking BUT THE SUN DOESN’T SHINE IN SF. Newsflash: however morose the weather is here compared to the rest of California, it’s nothing compared to the dismal 80% of the year cloud coverage that Seattlites “enjoy.” So, for my Friday Five this week, I chose to [...]

Wow! This is #100 on the music singles chart! The #1 single that takes it, goes to Halifax's Cousins with their song Jules. Jules is taken from the upcoming album The Palm At The End Of The Mind . [...]

We think that a tidy looking blog is a good thing. A fine aesthetic, pretty colours, big buttons and a design that's easy on the eye creates a great first impression to anyone visiting for the first time, helping to ensure a readers return. Disco Naïveté is one such blog, as the editor, Jarri, has selected to use Tumblr as his blog host of choice, designing one of the most gorgeous blogs in existence. Don't be fooled by the glossy looks though, as behind the beauty of Disco Naïveté is a taste in music so deadly it [...]
