The annual Treasure Island Festival is once again returning to the San Francisco Bay for its fifth year. Set to take place October 15-16, the 2-day bash is set to be headlined by Empire of the Sun (10/15) and Death Cab For Cutie (10/16). The opening day of the festival (October 15) will see performances by Cut Copy, Death From Above 1979, Flying Lotus, Battles, Chromeo, Dizzee Rascal, Shabazz Palaces, YACHT, Buraka Som Sistema, the Naked and Famous, Aloe Blacc, and Geographer. The second day of the bash [...]

The lineup for the Treasure Island Music Festival was just announced , promptly crashing the Treasure Island website and bringing down the Noise Pop site with it. Whoops. Here's the scoop from Pitchfork: The first day, headlined by (somewhat surprisingly) Empire of the Sun , has a lineup that leans toward stuff with dancey electronic influences: Cut Copy , Death From Above 1979 , Flying Lotus , Battles , Chromeo , Dizzee Rascal , [...]

With the sweltering Chicago sun present, the annual music festival from the online indie rock gods Pitchfork commenced at Union park where hordes of the country's hipsters and music buffs congregated. Friday was a busy day of missed interviews, long lines and a final relaxing moment enjoying the closing set by the evening's headliners, Modest Mouse . I had the unfortunate pleasure of listening to The Tallest Man on Earth battle with the hot sun with his heartfelt set and raspy voice as I waited in [...]
The Pitchfork Music Festival is a week behind us so I wanted to take a quick look back at what took place, and break down the various good and bad aspects of the fest. It’s hard to argue that the event wasn’t a resounding success. Outside of the oppressive heat that always seems to show up around P4K weekend there are few major complaints from me and from what I gather most everyone else that attended. Let’s start with the good: [...]

Frank Yang Given the unrelenting heat that defined the first two days of Pitchfork 2010 , a forecast of rain for Sunday wouldn't have been the worst thing in the world and indeed, we got an impressive flash thunderstorm around noon - perfectly timed as I was still holed up in the hotel room. Unfortunately, said mini-monsoon didn't actually wash away any of the heat, it just made it more humid. Awesome. I don't imagine the heat was bothering Best Coast , hailing as they do from the sunny climes of southern [...]

The 2010 three-day Pitchfork fest is now history. Overall, it was a good lineup with strong headliners who played great sets. Unfortunately, after five festivals, the organizers are still struggling with sound issues and crowd control. Here's the shortest review you're going to read about Pitchfork. Highlights : Great sets by LCD Soundsystem , Pavement and Wolf Parade Best surprises (acts I didn't think I'd like): St. Vincent and Robyn Band I wish I saw : [...]

Major Lazer stole the show. Major Lazer really stole the show. 'Play Lemonade!' is the new Freebird. As good as Sir Lucious is, Big Boi playing Outkast material makes his live show about 400% more vital. Though the copyright wrangles that prevented us webcast viewers from watching his performance was a bit of a downer. Panda Bear is not a festival act. Diplo sounds less... nerdy than I expected him to. I'd never heard Diplo's voice until [...]
The Pitchfork Music Festival has officially finalized their lineup for the weekend of July 16-18th in Chicago's Union Park. Single-day tickets are still on sale and I'm half-debating whether or not I can make it out for the weekend festivities. I think the lineup is incredible this year and a sure-bet if you're a music fan living in Chicago that weekend. Anything marked in bold was just added today. Pitchfork Music Festival 2010 Lineup Friday Modest Mouse Broken Social Scene Robyn [...]

Phil Harder Did anyone see this coming? I certainly didn't. This question, of course, is only relevant to those of a certain age/era for whom the name, " Bettie Serveert " still means something. To everyone else: get off my lawn. Aside for the unfamiliar: the Betties were the Netherlands' finest rock export since Golden Earring and a staple of '90s college rock with three albums on Matador full of crunchy guitar pop and Carol Van Dijk's expressive vocals. Entering the 21st century, they explored side projects and [...]

MySpace Rogue Wave's 2003 debut Out Of The Shadow was aptly named, considering they'd spend the first few years of their existence trying to accomplish just that from their labelmates The Shins . Both helped Sub Pop shed its hard rock reputation and redefine itself as the go-to label for quality indie-pop, but it was The Shins that busted out into mainstream success while Rogue Wave toiled away to just modest acclaim. Fast-forward a few (or more than a few years) and Sub [...]
Can you feel the music video renaissance?! We can. In this episode of video roundup, St. Vincent plays a feminist book store, Broken Bells ( Shins / Danger Mouse collab) wander around a dark highway, Beach House shows us a world dominated by silver people, and Taken by Trees retreats to nature for a cover of Animal Collective 's "My Girls." Taken by Trees - "My Girls" [Animal Collective cover] St. Vincent - "Laughing with a Mouth of [...]

Michael Palmieri When I wrote up Sharon Van Etten's debut album Because I Was In Love back in October , I felt a bit bad about giving it just a passing mention as I liked it more than just a sentence or two might have implied. But at the time my web hosting was self-destructing and I wanted to get something out there before her local appearance opening for Rain Machine , so a cursory mention it was. But with there seeming to be even [...]

As another year approaches it's finale, I find it harder to reflect on such a length of time, or actually remember the time during the year that an event actually took place. A week, or two may work for me, but months are getting tougher to remember without some type of visual aid. Every year, even though I do enjoy lists, I tell myself that I will not do a year end list, especially this year when I barely could find 10 albums worth listing, but in the last few weeks I've found a few more candidates that have found [...]
I’m not sure how this happened, but the “New Moon” Soundtrack has some pretty kick ass artists on it. Including Grizzly Bear and Victoria Legrand of Beach House. Here they are performing “Slow Life”. Another great track off that album is Bon Iver’s “Roslyn.” Check it out below with the rest of the artists featured on the soundtrack. -music from my ears. to yours. with love. jp New Moon Soundtrack
