For the second consecutive year at Hidden Track, we concocted our innovative little experiment for the year-end Best Albums list. Instead of picking the old fashioned way – subjectively – we opted for something a little different: a collaborative, collective list that incorporates the opinions of everybody here at HT. To begin, we devised an all-encompassing list of well over 100 nominees, whereby most everything our contributors recommended made the list. [...]

Vampire Weekend- Contra Vampire Weekend is known for creating contradictions. Its very identity is a paradox; the group formed on the Upper West Side with a sound inspired by African popular music. (This tension is perfectly encapsulated in the title of “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa,” a song [...]
I'd say it's been a pretty good year in my musical world... and a pretty good year other wise too! I'm about as blessed as a girl can be and the end of the year always makes me incredibly aware of it! But enough of the mushy stuff... let's get down to the nitty gritty! [...]

Beach House - Teen Dream Although barely visible on the shelf of a record shop, ‘ Teen Dream’ was seen from afar as a record that had the potential of providing breakthrough for one of America’s more unsung acts. And thankfully, it acted in a similar way to Grizzly Bear’s ‘Veckatimest’, excelling Victoria Legrand and Alex Scully’s reputation and bathing them in critical acclaim and awards. This is unarguably one of the “bigger”, more obvious choices in our list, and yet all previous Beach House albums have gone somewhat under the radar. [...]
Over the last few weeks there have been a multitude of artists releasing Christmas tunes, so over the next couple of days I'm gonna post some of the best ones I've heard so far, but if I'm missing any please let me know. As you might've judged by the title, first up is Beach House 's "I Do Not Care For The Winter Sun". Any song that begins with jingly bells is gonna make you feel like it's Christmas time, but Beach House and Victoria's sultry vocals and laid-back chilled sound will make this an Alt-Christmas, because that's what [...]
Alex Scally e Victoria [...]

With a plethora of artists releasing Christmas songs this year, some choose to graciously donate profits to charity (Coldplay), others greedily claim all the money for themselves (X-Factor) or as in this case; few in true festive spirit make the track available as a free download. Now the reason for choosing Beach House wasn't purely for the song itself, but in recognition of the phenomenal year this band have enjoyed. Releasing their fantastic third record Teen Dream at the beginning of the year, the two piece then took the touring circuit by storm, playing spine tingling shows at many of [...]
Told ya we'd have it. I'd expound on this STUNNER but I'm saving the Beach House love for another frame. Watch this twice. I'm four deep on it myself. The Balmer duo are quite literally getting better as they go.

My final 2010 Beach House post. Have a good one, however you do... Beach House - "I Do Not Care For The Winter Sun"

This year's [arguably] biggest and most acclaimed lo-fi pop group Beach House have decided to join in on the rampant holiday music gift-giving fun. In what sounds to be a Teen Dream b-side, the duo are giving fans a free track that seems like the perfect fireplace accompaniment. Listen below:

Their Twitter simply read that they wrote a brand new holiday song for their fans. It's as hypnotic and delicate as Teen Dream , like snow falling in your memories or anything from The Walkmen's last album. Yeah, I guess you could say it is beautiful. Download Beach House's "I Do Not Care For The Winter Sun" for free here .

Bristol's Trinity Centre was once one of the good sweet Lord's abodes, although these days its delightfully scatty, rickshaw bar and creaking floorboards are now crept over by many a beguiling artist of a musical persuasion. Just as SALEM provide quite sacrilegious soundtrack down in Shoreditch, in St. Judes proceedings are somewhat more reverent, as Baltimore does Bristol. Up first, Lower Dens are as quintessentially twee as tonight's headliners tumbling about on rugs in intricately decorated seaside huts, and despite being perhaps the least likely act to fuck up a whole speaker rig since, well, The Boy Least [...]
by nick Last week Bella Union released a preview of 'White Moon' - one of six new recordings from Beach House courtesy of an iTunes session which will debut on Monday, September 13th. It's a sweet surprise for those who yearn for more after overplaying Teen Dream for the past nine months. In truth, five of the iTunes tracks are actually re-workings of songs off the January release but will surely offer a change of pace from the original recordings. Alex Scally of [...]

Ok, so it's not entirely new, having been played live a few times, but now we have a proper version to get our Dream-Pop hearts all-a-flutter. Recorded as part of an iTunes Session it comes with five older songs (four from this year's critically acclaimed "Teen Dream", "Gila" from 20082s "Devotion", as well as this new one of course), all having been previously released, but this time recorded differently for iTunes. You can buy the EP from iTunes (clicking that link may open iTunes) for a few bucks and get "Teen Dream" below. [...]
Beach House have recorded an auld seisuin for iTunes, which sees five tracks retouched in a live way. There is also a brand new tracck though, to try and entice you into parting with your money. 'White Moon' is nothing out of the ordinary for Beach House, but would we [Read more]

Beach House as got a new digital EP out via iTunes. It's a release of live sessions including real drums and one unreleased track. If you're yet to see the band live, which is completely unforgivable unless you live in Alaska, maybe seeing this side of the band will persuade you. Grab the 6-track EP over here and stream the release's new track, "White Moon," down below: / via / -

Not that this Baltimore duo needs more exposure, but this song really gets to the heart of why Teen Dream is a beautiful, dreamy album. The lazy sway of the tune is performed with such little effort that it makes you feel that conjuring up such a lush mood seem far easier than it really is. Love it. BEACH HOUSE - SILVER SOUL Teen Dream was released January 26, 2010 via Sub Pop . [...]
Seems like this time of year everybody makes their own version of the best of (so far) albums list. You think we'd sit back and let everyone else have all the fun? Think again. I'll get this out of the way now and say that this is MY list. This is in no way a comprehensive list created by all us ATH staffers. This is 'ol RayRay's list full of what I've been spinning this year more than anything else. Now obviously it's difficult for a music writer to condense a list down to just five, so some very worthy [...]
