Filed under: The Hit List HENRY DILTZ, AFP/Getty Images When Rhode Island's Newport Jazz Festival debuted in 1954, audience members sat in neat rows of folding chairs and applauded politely for acts like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and the Dizzy Gillespie Quintet. Six years later, fans were so anxious to get into the festival, a riot occurred as ticket-less music lovers stormed the gates during a Ray Charles set, prompting a visit from the National Guard. Some of the biggest names in rock, dance and pop will descend on Chicago for Lollapalooza on August 3-5, including everyone from Frank Ocean to Florence + the Machine to Fun . But Lolla wasn't always this inclusive: It began as a the leading authority on alt-rock in the early '90s, a traveling caravan of flannel and ripped jeans that brought Seattle's grunge and Cali's trash-glam to the masses. That iteration of the touring fest folded after '97, but Lolla [...]
After four non-stop days in the sun, with little or no sleep, it can prove pretty futile to try to express one's Bonnaroo experience. "GIANT GAGA FRANKENSTEIN! FRUITY-PEBBLE-S TRAWBERRY-MASHMALLOW TREATS! MERENGUE DANCING DOG! " Initially, it tends to not make a whole lot of sense (or maybe that makes perfect sense?). After a week of editing photos and properly reflecting on our weekend on the farm, here are the 10 moments that made Bonnaroo 2012, in mix form. While you're listening, here are some of our favorite images from the weekend, and be sure to check [...]

One week ago today, the music world lost Beastie Boys member Adam Yauch following his three-year battle with cancer. It was a major blow to fans of the trio whose music had soundtracked the past 26 years. Additionally, The Voice finally wrapped up Season 2 this week, but not without a few barbs coming from — and aimed at — Christina Aguilera . And along those lines, it seems Xtina isn't the only former member of Mickey [...]
Filed under: News , Video , Exclusive , The Hit List YouTube The "M" in MTV may not stand for "music" any more, but that doesn't mean music videos are dead. In fact, in these hyper-connected social media times it's more important than ever for an artist to have a good video. Upload an ace clip on a Thursday and by Friday someone can become a worldwide Internet [...]

Music videos accomplish what has never been done before in the history of media: They make experimentation a commercial enterprise. They afford musicians, filmmakers, and multimedia artists the chance to have their craziest ideas not only produced, but shown to a large audience. What's more, in the age of Internet video, indie productions are now on equal footing with million-dollar productions. There's no visual medium more diverse or creative than music videos. Thirty years after the launch of MTV, the format is not only alive and well, but it's matured, expanded, and become a part of our global culture. When [...]

With R.E.M. announcing their breakup , the veteran alt rock band from Georgia is releasing their two-disc R.E.M., Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, 1982 - 2011 collection on November 15. Actress Kirsten Dunst stars in one of two videos for the new single off the hits set, "We All Go Back To Where We Belong" (the second video features poet John Giorno). This got us to thinking about other know personalities who've appeared in music vids in recent years. Head below to watch R.E.M.'s clip with Kirsten, and to see [...]
![[PLAYLIST] The Best REMIXES of 2011 – Part 1 (Jan-June)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3589417_lg.jpg)
Strap on your shufflin' shoes and make sure to stretch 'cause this list is an unmerciful messenger delivering jams of the highest quality. Some of these remixes have been banned by certain unenlightened govern ments for igniting dance parties and group high-fives so share with care. This edition is chock full of TBE Remix alums and a few newbies shaking things up. Everyone's favorite, Passion Pit, nab two spots while newbie Star Slinger clinches two more. In a massive non-surprise, RAC takes a heavy slice of this pie with a full 5 slots. Hey, it's not my fault the guy is a genius. Stay [...]

Single of the Week Lady Gaga - Judas (Interscope Records) So this is what it feels like to be beaten about the face repeatedly with a leather-studded crucifix (if such a thing does not exist it will by the time the video has wrapped). Thank Easter it’s Gaga! Having already exhausted the egg motif months previously we are now treated to a tribute to the season's other signifier: the dirty, cheating, Jesus-kissing Judas. An ode to wrong ‘uns everywhere, essentially this is Gaga’s warped take on ‘Bad Boys’ by Gloria Estefan [...]

Welcome back to The Recommender as we look ahead to another year of excellent contemporary music. One year ago we completed a similar post, looking ahead to the albums that were predicted for a release in 2010. You can find that old post here and check out just how many predicted albums actually arrived. No blogger has a perfect selection of sources, but we think you will agree that there's a pretty high hit rate from last year's list, although unfortunately the likes of The White Stripes and Radiohead stayed as rumours. Below we list our [...]
Gaga plus Beastie equals Christmas music, or Dosvecmas music. The 17 Days of Dosvecmas only has one more day left folks. Get some. Lady Gaga vs Beastie Boys "Intergalactic Romance" (DOSVEC Mashup) by DjWhatt

Suicide Sundaes – stop your grinnin’ and drop your linen. Every Sunday electblake of Earmilk will bring you the weeks dirty servings, and some old favorites through a throwdown-throwback to simpler times. A time when bangers were big, remixes were bigger, the bassline bled, and we didn’t care about anything as long as came in kicking and left screaming. To hell with sketchy Sunday, we want to shove another dragon down the hole. Weekend treat you well? I kept mine pretty low key - been working [...]

I know I said I wouldn't post many more mash-ups, but I really couldn't pass this one up. This mash-up mix by A Roffle Meow is of a couple songs from Lady Gaga 's album The Fame as well as Telephone and Beastie Boys ' Hello Nasty. It's 11 minutes long with four tracks, they could have been separated I guess but they weren't. Damn it for Lady Gaga's tracks for being so catchy and I love Beastie Boys, so that's the icing on the cake. Also, to A Roffle Meow, send [...]

That is quite possibly the most generic AND the most loaded post title in the same breath. Work is nutty busy, and while I'd LOVE to write a post for each of the fantastic artists and their mixes, time is limited. Let's all give a solid pat on the back to these mixers, mashers, and musicians for their generosity and solid work. BTW, the number 7 is my most fave, so here are just that many mixes. mp3: Chester French - She [...]

Ok so I might be one of the later posts of work by him, but i've been listening to his sweaty tracks on my iPod for quite a while now, which therefore doesn't make me late, just greedy. DJ Barletta makes me want to move to Toronto just so I can see him drop his pants and dance. Seriously, i'm loving his remixes so much, I sit still in anticipation to hear his tracks being played when i'm out just so I can dance like a crazy person. [...]
