Last week the music world lost a pioneer - Adam Yauch, better known by his Beastie Boys moniker MCA, died on the 4th of May battling cancer. An outpouring of fan ( famous or not) tributes quickly ensued, including this one from Coldplay covering a Beasties classic that was a little surprising. Watch it below. More Beastie Boys, yeah why not? Here's a video of them performing at a concert in Glasgow from back in the day when MTV still played music. ( via ) The second video is from an intimate show filmed during 2006 in NYC at Hiro Ballroom. The show was called "Gimme Shelter" and was put on by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Rational Animal ( www.rational-animal.org ). I really admire the trio for their [...]

Following the devastating passing of Beastie Boys member Adam " MCA " Yauch last Friday, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots paid tribute on Friday's episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon . After giving a brief statement, Fallon delivered a video montage honoring MCA , which gave footage from the Beastie Boys 2009 appearance on the show. Afterwards, The Roots performed covers of "Sure Shot," "Remote Control," and "Sabotage" [...]
Just yesterday comedian and co-creator of the "Chappelle Show" Neal Brennan paid tribute to the passing of MCA by sharing an unreleased Beastie Boys musical performance of "The New Style" for the aborted 3rd season of the show in late fall 2004. It was on a boat in East River, NYC. I love the fact that you can tell Dave Chappelle is genuinely having an awesome time. ( via )

fun. joined the chorus of artists saddened by the death of Beastie Boys ' MC Adam Yauch , honoring the late music pioneer with a cover of the Beasties' modern classic "Sabotage". fun. will play some big stages this summer (including Lollapalooza ) following the ascent of their critical and commercial smash "We Are Young" . But when Yauch died last week, they were hours from performing at Washington D.C.'s comparatively small 9:30 Club. Thus only a lucky few fans had an up-close look [...]

When does your mom throwing away your best porno mag take on an epic level of melancholy and despair? When it's covered by Coldplay , of course! While many pop stars took to Twitter to mourn the loss of the Beastie Boys ' Adam "MCA" Yauch, Coldplay delivered a more musical tribute with a cover of "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)," which works about as well as it could when accompanied by mournful piano, which makes it sound more like you gotta fight for your [...]

I think it's the transition between #6 and #5 that really got me feeling like this is one mellow countdown. I know #3 and #9 and #10 totally cancel this out, but for a bit there, it's super-chill. Countdown #57 ***Featuring*** The Airborne Toxic Event Beastie Boys The Black Keys Cage the Elephant Death Cab for Cutie Foo Fighters Foster the People Incubus Live Mumford & Sons Rise Against Also, I love this song: Kimya Dawson - Looking Out the Windshield (Daytrotter [...]

You've got to fight for your right to party, but there's barely any battle at all if you want to cover a Beastie Boys song nowadays. Ke$ha is planning to add their 1987 party anthem to the set list of her Get $leazy tour , and East L.A. hip-pop outfit Far East Movement put their own spin on a Beastie Boys classic, "So What'cha Want", while performing in glow-in-the-dark couture live at The Cherrytree House. And they basically turned the Boys' rock-rap hit into every single Auto-Tuned club song currently on the radio. Still: pretty jumpin! Watch below. [...]

Day 3: Snuggling up and winding down with a whip of hair Words & photos by Jenn Hernandez The chill and the overcast came back for the last day of Outside Lands weekend, but it still didn't stop us from buying cold lemonade and a chocolate chip cookie on our way in from some entrepreneurial eight year-olds. Hey, they figured out since they were cute, they could sell anything. Props to them. We waddled down to see Oklahoma's Other [...]

By all accounts, the 2nd annual Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival seemed to have another highly successful year, with over 100,000 people making their way to Golden Gate Park. Over the course of the three days, festival goers were treated to a pair of Neil Young covers from Pearl Jam, sit-ins from Robert Randolph and members of the Black Eyed Peas during DMB's headliner set and M.I.A paying honoring the Beastie Boys - who had to pull out of their scheduled appearance - with a mash-up medley during Bird Flu that included bits of the hip hop [...]

I really have to post this up for several reasons. First, it's the Beastie Boys and Nas teaming up for a new track off of the Beastie's upcoming album Hot Sauce Committee and it is dope to see a new collaboration from two iconic artists. Second this is at Bonnaroo, although this music festival has [...]
Beastie Boys teamed up with the Roots after they talked to Jimmy Fallon to do a rendition of "So What'cha Want" and it is quality true old school hip-hop. The Roots really improve any live performance, I was curious to see how they would handle this beat and as usual they nailed it. It was [...]
