As you might have heard yesterday, Brooklyn, N.Y. officially has one of the best parks in the world: Adam Yauch Park. That's right, the NYC borough renamed one of its parks after the late Beastie Boys rapper, who passed away tragically one year ago today. And during the dedication ceremony, Adam "Ad-Rock" Horowitz gave a moving speech that might leave you feeling choked up if not in tears. I don't blame you if you just listen to the Beasties for the rest of today. Watch the speech below.
Thanks to the good folks at Black On Blank , a lost interview between the Beastie Boys and ABC News Radio’s Rocci Fresh from 1985 has been uncovered. During the interview, the trio discuss a number of intriguing topics, including a run-in with the law and the upcoming release of their classic full-length Licensed to Ill . Oh, and the audio is animated with an awesome cut of visuals. Check it out below. [ via ]
It's looking like hip-hop heads will have a new must-read book to purchase in fall 2015. That's the (rough) release date of the Beastie Boys ' upcoming memoir, which is being worked on by surviving members Ad-Rock and Mike D. As you likely already know, Adam "MCA" Yauch tragically passed away last year. His cohorts are receiving some editorial help from famed rap scribe Sacha Jenkins and the book is said to "loosely structured as an oral history," The New York Times reports . According to Julie Grau of publishing house Spiegel & Grau, [...]
It has been nearly a year since Adam "MCA" Yauch of the Beastie Boys passed, so it is only right this fantastic animated tribute popped up to pay respect. The video goes along with an upcoming London art show held by artist James Curran that will apparently hold 35 prints that will be up for sale. I assume those 35 prints will have something to do with the art shown during these lovable animations. Proceeds from the event will go to cancer patients. [ via ] You can watch the video below and check out artist James Curran's [...]
It's safe to say that the winner of the past week was Tyler, the Creator , whose new album, Wolf , finally dropped. It's looking to push a solid number of units and Tyler gave one of his best late-night performances of his career doing "Rusty" on The Late Show With David Letterman . We're hoping De La Soul runs the world next week, which is when t hey'll drop their first single since 2004. If not, maybe we'll just put together another list of albums that [...]

After the devastation left behind Hurricane Sandy, Mike D of the Beastie Boys thought he needed to play a role in the recovery. Along with restauranteur Robert McKinley, the two started Rockaway Plate Lunch, a food truck that has now served over 19,000 free meals. The truck keeps things healthy, as it serves the coastal neighborhood known as the Rockaways. Watch a video below about the great deed, and read more over at Rolling Stone .

Out of nowhere, Brainfeeder's Jeremiah Jae dropped a new project dedicated to (and remixing) the Beastie Boys . At first blush, I'm thinking to myself, "Do the Beasties really need to be remixed by anyone?" A quick "Probably note" crosses my mind until the zip file finishes downloading and I load it into my iTunes. Immediately, it's apparent that Jae's blunted, tripped-out approach to producing is a choice complement to the Beasties' brash, playful rhymes. It's snarling and psychedelic; it's lo-fi and off the wall; and it's altogether rad. You can download the project [...]
Oh Questlove, just when we already think you're the best, you somehow out-best yourself. The Roots band leader just shared this stream of demo mix for the Beastie Boys tribute at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame show. And rather than, you know, simply making sure all the instrumentation and transitions are right, he went one step further and recorded all the vocals, too. It's pretty amazing to hear him imitate all three Beasties and perform the tracks live, including "Sabotage", "So What'cha Want", "The New Style", and "No Sleep Til Brooklyn". Stream it below. [ [...]
The timing of this lawsuit couldn't be more perfect. Just one day after we reported that the late MCA's will prohibited the use of Beastie Boys ' music in commercials, the surviving members have sued Monster Energy over the unlicensed use of their work. Apparently the energy drink giant used portions of "Sabotage", "So Whatcha Want", and "Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun" in a campaign for their 2012 Ruckus in the Rockies event. It's not clear how much the Beasties are suing for, but here's a portion of the complaint: "The text [...]
You know what's probably the most punk thing ever? Dedicating a portion of your will to prohibiting companies from using your music in commercials and advertisements. That's exactly what the late Adam "MCA" Yauch , of Beastie Boys , did. As you are likely thinking: Yes, Ad-Rock and Mike D could choose to sell the music if they wanted to at some point. But do you really think they'd do that to MCA's (and their ) legacy? No fucking way. RIP MCA. [ via ]
We have the terrible, heart-breaking news to report that Adam Yauch, aka MCA of the Beastie Boys, has died. He was 47. You might recall that Yauch was diagnosed with throat cancer back in 2009 and later received treatment for the disease. He, of course, went on to finish the latest Beastie Boys album, Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2 , which was easily one of the best records of 2011 . R.I.P. MCA. Fuck you, cancer. [ via ]
