Back at the beginning of April we briefly covered neo-psychedelic rockers Temples and their rather magnificent single Shelter Song. Martin wrote, "The songs are louder, clearer and chocked full of instantly catchy hooks; unashamedly pulling in retro influences from acid era Byrds to (dare ... Continue reading
'Well to paraphrase The Beatles, it only takes 730 holes to fill the Village Underground, and we did it.' That was the message emanating out from the startlingly accommodating backstage realms of the Shoreditch haunt last Saturday sometime gone eleven: a statement of triumph in adversity, and of aspirations of grandeur simultaneously. MONO , the understated though musically overblown troupe from Tokyo came, saw, conquered and astounded to leave all dumbstruck and indeed dumb. After the most intense ninety of live music thus far this year, words failed us. All of us. Thus to render [...]
Last night the eyes of the world were on London for the opening ceremony of the Olympics and the creation of Oscar-2inning film maker, Danny Boyle. I must say I was pretty impressed by the whole thing. What really got our excitement going was the use of music in the show. Emeli Sandé made an appearance before Dizzee Rascal appeared from a home in the middle of the arena. Two Door Cinema Club and Paul McCartney also made an appearance. A highlight for me was Arctic Monkeys who performed their ever popular debut single "I Bet You Look [...]

Last night's Opening Ceremony proved many things, but perhaps more emphatically than anything, it showed that we know our way around a melody. Bowie, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Blur, Winehouse, and...er, Fuck Buttons. First and last time we'll hear Fuck Buttons at an Opening Ceremony? Most probably. While Macca led the crowd through a sing-song of 'Hey Jude' the real thrill of the live performances was watching Arctic Monkeys tear through their breakthrough track 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' infront of a billion people. [...]

The world is watching the London Olympics now, thanks to the Opening Ceremony which closed with a rousing rendition of The Beatles ' "Hey Jude" performed by Sir Paul McCartney . As inspirational anthems go, "Hey Jude" is pretty much at the top of the list — not to mention Sir McCartney is about as London as it gets, so it seems a fitting choice. (Here's a low-quality version for now — we'll replace with a better one if/when it becomes available!) [...]
Yesterday we got to hear one of the collaborations Wayne Coyne and his gang The Flaming Lips had been working on with Bon Iver . Today comes footage of the band performing another cover of The Beatles. Remember the "I Am The Walrus" cover over the holidays where they're all high as kites? This is a little more tame, and by that I mean they're not wrapped in special blankets and rocking back and fourth between licking weird objects. The performance is of the Abbey Road featuring "I Want You (She's [...]

Photo by G. Reeve Carney cast as Jeff Buckley This is a no-brainer! Reeve Carney, star of Spider-Man on Broadway and lead singer of the band Carney, has been cast as Jeff Buckley in the "official" bio-pic about the singer's life. As a big fan of Jeff Buckley's music, I was dreading the prospect of a movie because the names being thrown around that were in consideration to play Jeff are not singers. I am happy that if a movie has to be made, Reeve Carney [...]
HD Video by G. Are you familiar with Carney? Of course if you read this site, you're already in the know (and you're welcome!) If you do not know the music of Carney, today is your lucky day. This band is great! When lead singer Reeve Carney has a day off from being the lead in Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark on Broadway, he moonlights in his rock and roll band with his brother Zane. They are great performers and if you like what you are about to watch (which you will), you should definitely pick up Carney's [...]
New Live Video Medley Uncovered Beatles + Led Zeppelin + AEB = Sweeeeet! review of Aaron English's latest: " American Fever Dream " Aaron English gets [...]

If you've been frequenting the site recently, you're probably aware that the Foo Fighters just released their seventh studio album, Wasting Light , on Tuesday. And while I have yet to write a proper review of the album, I can tell you that I love it. Then again, I've already expressed my love for the band as they've been such a big part of my life growing up. Anytime the band releases an album, I always get excited, and, clearly (above), pick it up. I hope to review Wasting Light for the site, but only time will [...]
Once again it has been far too long since gave a nod to the Please Rock collective. Who would have thought that a band could make a living playing covers any more? These guys do. Of course, there are two easy explanations for that. First, they do it well. Their renditions are faithful to the original but not so much so that they don't add a few of their own flourishes. Second, they always entertain. They appreciate their fans and make every performance a party for those on [...]

This week, Noise Narcs answers the age-old question: What five bands would you travel back in time to see in their prime? To see other responses, jump in the hot tub . I was going to write a post that just said "Coldplay," no date, no justification. [ I would have just assumed it was because of your dreadful (but pretty) doppleganger's husband, Chris Martin. -Ed ] But then I realized that little joke didn't really even make me laugh, so I started thinking of other acts I could name to better effect. [...]

President Obama awarded Sir Paul McCartney the annual Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, and what better way to be honored than by having the Jonas Brothers serenade you? The JoBros (who are regulars at the White House at this point) performed the 1965 hit "Drive My Car", and we have to wonder which audience member made the JoBros more nervous—McCartney, or The President of the United States. Behind-the-scenes footage, as well as their performance, awaits you below. Beep beep, beep beep, yeah! [...]

You may have noticed things have been a bit quiet 'round here lately. An extreme bout of lethargy/cannae be arsedness coupled with actual real work being a bit hectic has lead to a slow down in the proceedings. But, for what it's worth, I can safely say " I'm back ". So too, you probably noticed, is old thumbs aloft himself, the strangely auburn-coiffured Paul McCartney . Beatle Bum I gulped a huge gulp back in March when I hit ' return [...]
Paul McCartney likes to get back: Mark Ronson- esque remixes of Beatles songs keep his audience content in anticipation of the main attraction and a homage of Beatles memorabilia adorns stage screens. That McCartney is dressed in a Sullivan suit as he strides on stage with a simple, stripped-down band, is no coincidence. There are even lava lamps atop the keyboard player’s stack. Homage and nostalgia informs the show throughout: ‘Let Me Roll It’ ends with a coda of Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Foxy Lady’ and before beginning ‘The Long and Winding Road’, McCartney recounts the time that he [...]

Zemeckis intanto [...]

I saw a Beatle. That's not something you get to say every day. Probably not something you'll be saying for long more. At 64, Paul McCartney is closing in on retirement age, but from his lengthy live show, you'd never guess it for a second. He's still as sprightly as most forty-year-olds. In fact, he's probably far more energetic than me. Seeing your heroes is sometimes disappointing. Like when a kid meets Roy Keane or some other petulant footballer, you're left with a bitter aftertaste. Not so with Paul McCartney. He leaves you on a high after the [...]
