Last month we reported on the new lineup for former Blips act Scarecrow Collection . The new version of the band has played a number of shows in May and we've been impressed with what we've heard. Back on Tuesday night SC performed at Van Gogh's Ear Cafe in Union, New Jersey and delivered a Beatles cover we enjoyed. The Beatles issued Don't Let Me Down on Let It Be in 1970. It's since been covered by many bands, including Scarecrow Collection who offered their [...]
Back at the beginning of April we briefly covered neo-psychedelic rockers Temples and their rather magnificent single Shelter Song. Martin wrote, "The songs are louder, clearer and chocked full of instantly catchy hooks; unashamedly pulling in retro influences from acid era Byrds to (dare ... Continue reading
Recently picked as KEXP's "Song of the Day," Los-Angeles based Foxygen continue the duo's hot streak with the visuals for the single "No Destruction," which has been [...]
Now residing in London, UK, duo Hot Casandra bring their Bucharest-driven style of electro / electronic pop to any dining room table that needs feeding profusely. Creating scores of waves since 2010, Paul Ballo & Elena take their Simian Mobile Disco / Ladytron inspired outlook out to the world and give a cheeky nod to Barry Manilow too. Fashioned in riveting synth-attire and 80s stylish freedom, Hot Casandra are pop’s anti-favourites for 2013 recognition. SNIPPETS [...]

With a sound that walks the line between dream pop and chill wave, New York producer Richard Cupolo has created a memorable debut that's become a favorite of ours. His debut record isn't due out until May 15th, but you can still preview it in all of it's grandeur in our review from earlier this month . Ahead of all this, we were able to catch up with Cupolo to find out a little about his background, plans for a tour, and if there was anything in the works to expand City Society into more [...]

As we mentioned earlier , the Allman Brothers Band kicked off the second set of last night's March Madness Run opening show at the Beacon Theatre in New York City yesterday with a cover of Rain by The Beatles. Though Gregg Allman had recorded the tune, which was originally released in 1966 as the b-side to Paperback Writer, back in 1985, this was the first time the Allmans played it. ABB guitarist Warren Haynes said this about the band's cover of Rain to Jambands.com [...]

Amor De Dias: House At Sea - Lush, Spanish-styled acoustic guitars swell in my ears and envelope me, taking me to a place that I have never been. I can see myself sitting in a cafe, somewhere warm with a light breeze blowing through. Amor De Dias ’ album House at Sea has a great way of putting the listener in their world. The warm tones of Alasdair Maclean’s and Lupe Nuñez-Fernandez’s voices dig-in like sand between your toes. House at Sea is an eclectic [...]
The Flaming Lips add 'edible heart filled with the Beatles "All You Need Is Love' to their discography.

The Flaming Lips lanzarán su nuevo disco, The Terror , el próximo [...]

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" sung by Punch (Vocal Solo: Steve Adler, Guitar Solo: Mike Deasy), written by George Harrison and arranged by Charles Merriam and Bones Howe. This song was released in 1970 with B-Side "Waitin', Holdin' Out" (A&M 1233). The group members of PUNCH were Charles Merriam (leader, singer and main songwriter), Steve Adler (lead singer), Kathy Ward (singer) and Dee Steele (singer). Fast-forward to 1973. They regroup as SONOMA, replace Dee with studio singer Tricia Johns and jump to the Dunhill label. They release one album that year for that [...]

This past weekend longtime HT faves the Felice Brothers completed a three-night New Year's run that included two intimate sold-out shows at Maxwell's in Hoboken and a New Year's Eve gig at New York City's Mercury Lounge. The upstate New York-based band - whose choice in covers typically leans towards the likes of Townes Van Zandt, Woody Guthrie, Bruce Springsteen or traditional folk tunes - played a handful of unexpected new ones over the course of the run. To close Saturday night's show, Ian embraced his [...]

Here's an idea who's time has truly come: a project called "Imagine" in which Mexican artist Pedro Reyes leads a team that takes guns donated from citizens of a county particularly wracked by violence and transforms them into musical instruments. Pistols form a guitar's body, gun barrels have holes drilled into them and made into flutes, or are arranged according to size into a xylophone, etc. The remarkable lyre pictured above is as much a triumph of visual design as musical. My mom told me once that we were all born into this world with a special talent that's unique to us. Well I'm sure glad excellence in handfarting isn't my skill, but I can still appreciate the HandFartMaster . This gentleman has shared his "Handmonica" talents with the world through covers posted on his YouTube channel. Let's start with HFM's take on Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd... With them being legends as one of the only things that Nirvana and Paul McCartney have in common, a lot of us were baffled over the whole Nirvana/Paul McCartney performance for the 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert. Well, here's the explanation: "Cut Me Some Slack," the song that McCartney played with the surviving members of Nirvana for the concert, will appear on the soundtrack of Dave Grohl's directoral debut. Nirvana recorded Nevermind at the legendary Sound City (also the title of Grohl's film), a recording studio in Van Nuys, California. [...]

I've been having some technical difficulties with the blog lately, but everything's up and running now. A few days ago I reviewed Paul McCartney 's recent Vancouver show for Exclaim! and wrote a piece about him for The Tyee . My seats were in the 15th row right in front of the stage, which was absolutely insane given that there were tens of thousands of people at the show. It was a solid show and really emphasized just how many unforgettable songs he's written. [...]
