Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News AFP/Getty Images Finding the perfect time and place to get down on bended knee and pop the ol' question is still an elusive, nerve-wracking art. But guys planning to propose this Valentine's Day can get some help from none other than Paul McCartney . "Paul wants you to share your love," says a message on the musician's site and Facebook page. In celebration of [...]

Having only been released yesterday, Dr. Dog's latest album Be The Void has already offered a lot to discuss. In that sense, I'll try to fit most of my thoughts into this blog post, though I'm sure I won't get to all of them. I would be remiss though if I failed to mention the great amount of Beatles-interplay that happens throughout record, arguably more so than their usual stylistic appropriation. Be the Void marks a serious change in the band's sound, perhaps because of the addition of drummer Eric Slick and percussionist Dimitri Manos, or possibly [...]

So far this week it seems like a number of covers are surfacing (hopefully we aren't too behind on getting these gems to your ears) and wouldn't you know it, I have another one for you! This time we have a local favorite in Minneapolis ' own Cloud Cult with their performance of The Beatles ' "Help!". The arrangement is so much different than the original and that's what you have to love about covers, when a band can take a classic and make it their own. As for the bands own work, they are currently working [...]
Embark on a virtual journey of The Beatles' still explosive debut.

The ex-Beatle tries his hand at the Great American Songbook on his latest album.
A charity project organized by Vega Productions has a slew of artists covering classic Beatles tracks. You can buy the entire compilation, Minnesota Beatle Project Vol. 3, on their website . One of my favorite artists, Cloud Cult, covered the Beatles classic song Help. It's recognizable as the original, but it is also entirely a Cloud Cult concoction. Quite simply, it is a great cover. mp3 : Cloud Cult - Help (Beatles Cover) + more Cloud Cult @ twf hype elbows site [...]

Love me do - The Beatles I like the Beatles. I do. I think rock'n'roll was fine before they came along, and i don't think them essential, but what i do think is essential may not have existed or existed in different ways without the Beatles. Another band would have come along and become most if not all they were and signified. Markets are always filled. This was their first single. They were probably really proud and excited of it, the way all bands [...]

Chuck Berry, still rockin' at age 85. Long past the half-century mark, rock and roll is now nearing senior citizen status. Yesterday we marked the 53rd anniversary of the deaths of Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Richie Valens, and we've had some tragic losses in the past couple weeks (Etta James, Johnny Otis, etc.). But one of our greatest original rockers is still with us - Chuck Berry, still rockin' (sometimes) at age 85. He has some health issues, but he apparently still performs at the Blueberry Hill restaurant in St. Louis, where [...]

Tweet "Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes", David Bowie once sang. A rather apt song to be thinking of at the moment of my return back to the hallowed halls of LBYB after some time away. I'd like to tell you it was to do something grand like climbing Everest but sadly it was changes to personal stuff. All the while I was gone however, I kept an eye on the site and watched it go through some changes of its own, and what great changes they were. [...]
Singer/songwriter crafts a clever mashup of 'Can't Buy Me Love' and 'Somebody That I Used to Know'

Repost: Published in 2009, still of interest today. To this day, people still mourn the musical talent who died in a plane crash in the early morning hours of Feb. 3, 1959. A small airplane, carrying rock stars Buddy Holly, J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson and Ritchie Valens, crashed only minutes after taking off from Mason City, Iowa, in a snowstorm. The three had just played the "Winter Dance Party" (see yesterday's post ) and were heading to the next stop in [...]
