It's 09/09/09, and, here in Seattle, Beatles Day is winding down. I'm exhausted and elated, but most of all, I'm in awe. Working on the Beatles has been a bit of a head trip, and not in the ways you might think. I was beyond excited when I learned that the remastered catalog was going to be released, but I quickly discovered that my excitement for the remasters, not to mention my love for the Beatles, both paled in comparison with the enthusiasm, devotion, and somewhat mind-blowing level of knowledge displayed by the Beatles fans [...]

"Yesterday And Today" by The Field This week in particular, it seems as though yesterday really is today…the "yesterday" of oh say about 45 years ago that is. Then, the Beatles ruled everything. Now, the Beatles are ruling everything all over again. For those who've taken an early start on their 2012 apocalypse shelters and haven't necessarily kept up to date with "things", you'll be interested to know that this mad scramble for all things Fab Four is the direct [...]

Today Harmonix/MTV Games releases The Beatles: Rock Band. Seth Schiesel, in his review of the game for the New York Times says: "The Beatles: Rock Band is nothing less than a cultural watershed, one that may prove only slightly less influential than the band's famous appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show" in 1964. By reinterpreting an essential symbol of one generation in the medium and technology of another, The Beatles: Rock Band provides a transformative entertainment experience." Towards the end of the review, Schiesel goes on to say: "Of course almost nothing could [...]

The game's makers, MTV Games and Harmonix, announced 19 more of the Fab Four's songs that will be featured in the game, bringing the total to 44. Headlining the latest round of details to come out about The Beatles: Rock Band -which, along with the Fab Four's remastered catalog, comes out on Sept. 9-is the inevitable announcement of a Story Mode. Play straight through the Beatles catalog, and the game's avatars will progress from the moptoppers plying their trade in Liverpool's Cavern Club, through Beatlemania, psychedelia, and flaunting fur coats on the Apple Corp rooftop. (The subsequent breakup and lawsuits will presumably be covered in Allen Klein: Rock Accountant .) Most band sims let gamers unlock songs by playing through [...]
This might be a rhetorical question, but is Yoko Ono misunderstood? Not only has the musician (and, more famously, wife of the late John Lennon) been chastized by the less informed as the catalyst for the Beatles' demise and mocked for her own experimental music, but it seems as if she made matters pretty difficult for the developers for the upcoming Beatles: Rock Band video game. Though the game (which looks pretty sweet , by the by) isn't due for a release until September 9th, Harmonix has just revealed that Ono stepped in and [...]

Get ready for another wave of Boomer nostalgia to crash over our collective shores during the dog days of late August. The one-two punch of the 40th anniversary of Woodstock and the run-up to the release of The Beatles: Rock Band just happen to coincide with what are traditionally super-slow days in the music press, thanks to a large number of factors that include the waning days of the summer shed season, record labels' decision to hold off on putting out anything "important" until back-to-school season starts, and the fact that any reporter who actually has to [...]

Scheduled for release on September 9, and complete with controllers shaped like John Lennon 's trademark Rickenbacker 325 and Paul McCartney 's Hofner bass, 'The Beatles: Rock Band' has been kept on lockdown thanks to the game's manufacturer Viacom, who removed most leaked clips from YouTube. Now, as Clash Music reports, the first full-length clip [...]
