There is little left to be said about Kings Of Leon , they've had their highs; most notably 20072s Because Of The Times , one of the finest records released in the first decade of this new millennium, however they haven't been without their lows as well. From battling with paralyzing drug addictions and a fourth album that came close to destroying all their hard work put in previously, they've had tough times. With third album Because Of The Times , the Tennessee rockers finally seemed to be fulfilling their rarely reached potential, an LP of storming [...]

PHOTO CREDIT: ANDREW KAHN Kings of Leon put on a fast paced and highly energetic show in front of a two-thirds full Bradley Center in Milwaukee last Saturday night. It's too bad those in attendance seemed to miss it as most reacted almost exclusively to the singles from the band's 2008 release Only by the Night and basically shoe gazed when past hits were played. This made for an odd atmosphere in a building that seemed a little too big for the group. [...]

It's been just over a year since the four Tennessee brothers Kings of Leon released their last album, Because of the Times, which launched them in to global rock stardom. The album, while very hard-rock oriented, highlighted the young band's unique blend of southern and classic rock. Kings of Leon's new album, Only By The Night, takes some of the best parts of Because of the Times and combines it with a more mature and polished approach to songwriting and production. Kings of Leon's much anticipated ONLY BY THE NIGHT is out today. Go buy it now and make me jealous, as I won't be back in the states until Oct 3rd to pick up my copy. I have heard several tracks from the album that has been posted on various blogs and it appears that those of us who were disappointed by the somewhat weak (by KOL standards of course) Because of the Times, will be much happier with the Kings' latest effort. Kings of Leon - Sex On Fire - (DL) [...]
Now that My Morning Jacket has raised the bar and shown that modern Southern rock can be far more expansive than rehashed Allman Brothers' riffs, the gauntlet has been thrown down. Kings Of Leon answers the challenge quite well on their fourth album, Only By The Night . It's been a natural upward progression for the Followill family (brothers Caleb on vocals, Jared on bass, and Nathan on drums, joined by cousin Matthew on lead guitar), culminating in 2006's outstanding Because Of The Times . And while the [...]

INITIAL THOUGHTS - Kings of Leon - Only By The Night words: Jamie Milton I don't quite believe Kings of Leon's declaration that they've stayed clear of the drugs. Sure, the whiskey>coke>whiskey approach on 'Aha Shake Heartbreak' has subsided, but surely they weren't as "epic" at heart before they got introduced to the stimulants, because here they sound like heavy sedative-users. 'Only By The Night' is a clever confirmation of the huge sounds that begun to state their presence in previous record, 2007's 'Because of the Times', it [...]
This is quite 'heavy'. A nice big heavy, distorted to breaking point bassline sets the pace and tone of the song. With some nice thunderous drums in support. Then some crunchy guitar layering over the top before Caleb comes in sing. It's the same sort of big venue conquering stadium rock with a garage rock/Southern Rock'n Roll twist to it. The refrain/chorus of 'You better learn to Crawl' is a bit poor in comparision and the song doesn't seem to go anywhere in terms of melody progression. Like Beck's Vampire Voltage the guitar solo at the end [...]
Kings Of Leon- Crawl (Link 2) (Link 3) or download from the band (preferably). Discuss: Kings Of Leon- Unstoppable? Kings Of Leon will creep up on you. Just when did they get this big? "This" being "walk-in-the-park Glasto headlining" big and "trotting out brilliant albums every year" big. I get the simultaneously wonderful and terrifying impression that nothing can stop this band... Most optimistic fans weren't expecting to hear from the band until 2009, at the earliest. And [...]
I'm not sure when Kings of Leon got so big. Big enough to warrant headlining Glastonbury at least, but maybe that's more down to what was a weak Glastonbury headliner wise, rather than as a statement of their world conquering popularity. Regardless Kings of Leon are definately making the most of their new found ubiquity. After releasing the admittedly excellent 'Because of the Times' last year they look set to follow up that success in the studio with another album 'Only By The Night' due out - with Arctic Monkey style quickness - on September [...]

Our live reviewer Dave sits down to do an album review for us today, Dave is a big Kings of Leon fan, so I wanted his perspective on the new album, Because of the Times. Rock and roll seems to have lost its true identity. After a very distinct period in the 1970s, the genre seems to have departed into a disparate amount of directions. Starting with hair metal and the early onset of indie rock in the 80s and leading [...]

Just a few updates about my listening habits as of late: -Feist's The Reminder is continuing to amaze me, well over a month after I first heard. -These Kings Of Leon guys are pretty good, eh? -I'm still standing firm in my opinion of We Were Dead, despite last night's comments. -It might have it's rough spots, but Shock Value still has some awesome tunes. Feist - So Sorry.mp3 Feist [...]
