This past year, I finally put my eyes to the test, armed myself with a semi-expensive camera, and hit the photo pits. Now, I had previously wiggled my way up to the front of the crowds with a point-and-shoot in our early days, but I'd never really attempted to put myself in the shoes of a professional photographer. Within five minutes, I realized how stressful and yet how thrilling the position can be. There's a sense of community that photographers have that writers never really will. While some express lens-envy, and yeah it's really ridiculous and uber-showy, most [...]
The stars came out for San Francisco's premier Summer festival // Follow Owl and Bear on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.

In all my years as a festie, I've never been to a festival where gloves seemed like a perfectly sound idea. But San Francisco defies the logic of California (as comedian Marcus Monroe put it, "It's summer, so tell your fucking city that"), with cool days and downright cold evenings. Still, the City by the Bay plays one hell of a host. Coming from Boston, the honest politeness of the people here was shockingly apparent from the moment I stepped onto the BART. With sunny skies above, it was a warm welcome to the weekend ahead. Of course, [...]

Check out my photos of Outside Lands over at Stereogum .
Stereogum Over the weekend, thousands of fans flocked to this year's Outside Lands at Golden Gate Park. Overcast and chilly weather was offset by the fire from the Metallica pyrotechnics and warm vibes from festival attendees. Neil Young & Crazy Horse turned up their guitars to close out Friday, Metallica blew everyone away with their hellfire on Saturday, and Stevie Wonder dazzled with his barrage of hits to on Sunday. Some of the other highlights included Jack White's impromptu set in the midst of the trees, [...]

Now in its fifth year, San Francisco's Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival took over Golden Gate Park this past weekend, with a diverse lineup that included everyone from long-established legends like Neil Young and Stevie Wonder to more emerging acts like Tanlines and Zola Jesus. Flavorpill sent photographer Scott Dudelson into the crowded park — which was packed with some 200,000 music fans — to cover the three-day festival for us; click through to see our favorite shots that he captured. I'm off to San Francisco for Outside Lands and won't be back until Monday. For those of you unable to attend, stream the festival live (thanks to Tunein ) or enjoy the playlist below. Either way, hope you have a fantastic weekend, because I know I will.
Every year, every festival in America claims to have the "best line up ever!" Well, San Francisco's Outside Lands Music Festival has made to its 5th year, and they really are going to have a seriously difficult time topping this year's event. Of course, this means that there are conflicts galore! You've got six stages [...]

The daily lineups were finally announced (now all we need are some actual set times). Saturday is definitely the day not to miss. Which day are you most excited about? More at sfoutsidelands.com

I feel kind of salty for this, but apparently Beck released a new single and no one told me about it. Trying to cut myself some slack, I did move into a new apartment on the day of this song's release and a lot of new stuff totally got skipped over. One record I want to come back to and post up is Beck's latest single, "I Just Started Hating Some People Today". The song features Jack White and was released as a 7 inch via Jack's Third Man Records. It's a folky country record (the good kind) in which [...]

Photo credit: Nina Robinson Sasquatch! has quickly become one of the very best medium-sized music festivals in the States, all while maintaining its charm and dedication to downright good music. This four-day festival held at the Gorge, a mystifying natural amphitheater in Washington state, during Memorial Day weekend is a masterfully curated showcase of today's best up-and-coming artists from primarily the indie rock music scene. Though this year's lineup included Grammy-winning artist Bon Iver , Jack White , Pretty Lights , Girl Talk , [...]
Beck Hansen is now, and has been for almost two decades, one of the most admirable voices in popular music. Admirable is the key word in that first sentence as his rapid genre Mutations , (see what I did there?), are consistently compelling, if not always brilliant. There have been various iterations of Hansen's country-fried personality appearing in his work as early as Mellow Gold and Odelay , but "I Just Started Hating Some People Today," might be the most straightforward country song he's ever written… that is until it completely morphs into a psychotic freakout [...]

Recently, Beck revealed that he squeezed in some recording time with Jack White last year for a Third Man Records 73. The aforementioned single I Just Started Hating Some People Today b/w Blue Randy went on sale this week and already being shared online. We have a stream of the A-side track below. The song starts off as a country song that transitions to punk and then finishes with a flurry of funk. White did production on the track and, in addition, put down some instrumentation and [...]
Beck and Jack White have teamed up to create a piece unlike anything you have ever heard before. "I Just Started Hating Some People Today" starts out fairly conventional, filled with honky-tonk riffs that don't sound all that out of place knowing these two artists. But suddenly, at a point in the song I will let you discover yourself, things getting real raucous. The song finally concludes with some standard sensual seduction. This song appears on a 73 along with "Blue Randy", which is available now via Third Man . [ via ]

Filed under: News , New Music Third Man Records When musical mad scientists Beck and Jack White formed an alliance, the universe smiled widely. And so did we, because the pair's new track " I Just Started Hating Some People Today " is freakin' awesome, both in its title and its swampy bogwash tone. Featuring White on skins and "punk vocal," Beck snarls through a down-home beat filled with jealous fuzz [...]

Well I know Kibbe at Some Kind Of Awesome will probably be dancing to this all day. Down below you can check out the brand new single from Beck called "I Just Started Hating Some People Today". The single, along with its b-side, "Blue Randy", were released today via Third Man Records on 73 vinyl and digitally. The song itself goes through a few transformations. It kicks off as an old-timey, country tune and sticks with that sound for the most part. Then you get a bit of punk featuring some [...]
