Tot je A&R-man...

NO. 6 BOMBAY BICYCLE CLUB - A DIFFERENT KIND OF FIX BUY | LOOK | METACRITIC Bombay Bicycle club don't like to wait around. A Different Kind Of Fix , album number three, came earlier this year just 25 months after releasing their attention-grabbing debut record. The marked difference between 2009′s I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose – all chaos and indie guitars – and 2010′s entirely acoustic Flaws meant that few could claim to be really sure what Bombay [...]
Italy-based label Frontiers Records released two of 20112s awesomest glam metal records, Sebastian Bach's surprising Kicking And Screaming and Forevermore by Whitesnake, one of this year's very very awesomest (read here). So Frontiers was already hot when two Tuesdays ago Beggars & Thieves' new record We Are The Brokenhearted came out. The jam I heard was [...]
New Jersey duo Beggars In A New Land have a new (free) EP out digitally entitled Space Touch. Like their Crash Cymbols release, Teething, Space Touch is pop heavily dosed with club... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]
Talk about bending the rules - not only is Beggar's Banquet FAR from a lost classic, it's also being blogged about by an author who wasn't alive when it was released. I'm completely unqualified to write this post, other than the fact that I'm a huge Stones fan. I'm hoping by me writing this instead of John, it may inspire him to awaken from his blog posting slumber. With a gun to my head, I would probably say Exile ...

Great review by Banning Eyre of Joni Haastrup/MonoMono's – Give The Begger A Chance

Zip: BEGGARS IN A NEW LAND - SPACE TOUCH EP

Joni Haastrup was vocalist for Orlando Julius Ekemode & his Modern Aces' Super Afro Soul 1966 which is consider as a formative afro-beat records. Joni is known to be the Afro-Funk Father, his nickname "Number One Soul Brother". Last Soundway Records releases focused on Joni Haastrup early 70s career, deeply rooted with Afro-Beat international spread. After Blind Faith demise, Ginger Baker wanted to create a big band, while Steve Windwood wanted to reformed Traffic. Early 1970, Ginger Baker's Air Force was founded, with former musician of Traffic, Graham Bond, Moody's Blues, Blind Faith, Donovan, Jeanette Jacobs (ex-The Cake and vocal [...]
Taken together, these reissued afro-beat albums work as a pretty convincing whole, moving from worry to unrest to burgeoning hope, one thumping song at a time. Nigerian multi-instrumentalist Joni Haastrup may not be the household name Fela Kuti is, but he is as indelible a part of afro-beat and Nigerian music as the Black President is. Haastrup was the vocalist on O.J. Ekemode and his Modern Aces' 1966 album, Super Afro Soul, which was one of the early, formative afro-beat records -- an album a then-unknown Kuti played trumpet on (before he picked up his famous saxophone). He also [...]

Montreal-based quartet The Barr Brothers have released their self-titled debut via Secret City Records. The official video for single "Beggar In The Morning" premiered HERE on NPR's All Songs Considered. Artist Stephen Bircher used road-kill bones to build puppets, which were then animated and bear the likenesses of Andrew and Brad Barr, Sarah Page (harpist) [...]
The names Brad and Andrew Barr should be familiar to most that frequent this site, as the pair made up two-thirds of jam favorites The Slip , which over the last few years has seemingly become more of a side project than a full-time commitment. The duo's latest musical endeavor comes in the way of the aptly named Barr Brothers , whose sound is rooted in folk and Americana. Tomorrow, the Montreal-based act will release their self-titled debut and have just released this music video for the album's lead track Beggar In The Morning... [...]
I can never tire of hearing this song. I find myself absent mindedly singing "make it shine so pretty, make it shine so bright" whenever I am making anything. If I'm having a hard day at work I just remind myself "I'm a beggar in the morning and a king at night." This song has calming powers and is one you can easily find yourself immersed in. It's been amazing watching The Barr Brothers gain momentum over the course of the year and I couldn't be happier that they are getting the recognition they deserve. This video is a must [...]

So the Barr Brothers' story goes that guitarist Brad Barr heard a neighbor, Sarah Page, practicing her harp, learned the melody, knocked on her door and played it for her. Which makes for a nice warm-and-fuzzy — not unlike the Montreal quartet's self-titled debut album (out next week on Secret City Records ). It's bluesy, tool-shed Americana that fools with arrangements and polyrhythms, recalling in parts the Avett Brothers and the Head and the Heart, though both with some darker edges. ||| Download: "Beggar in the Morning" [...]
Thrice 's last record, Beggars , leaked an astonishing three months early. This time the band is doing the leaking by streaming a new song each day until Major/Minor drops on CD/digital download (it's already out on vinyl). Check out "Blinded" and pick up this absolutely incredible album on September 20th.

MonoMono Give The Beggar A Chance Tummy Touch Records Nigeria's Joni Haastrup created his band called MonoMono back in 1971. Though not truly a solo sojourn, Joni's friend Baba Ken Okulolo, who is also a bassist, added to the funk arena of West Africa. Initially released as an LP on the Odeon label in 1973, Give The Beggar A Chance [...]
Check out the lead single from The Medics who are a new band out of Queensland, Australia. A brief intro in the clip above
Andrew and Brad Barr spent more than a decade playing as part of rock trio The Slip. At one of The Slip's shows in Montreal in 2004, a fire broke out and the band - along with everyone else - had to evacuate quickly. Andrew offered his coat to one of the waitresses as everyone [...]
An album that really starts to answer the questions about the kind of band Bombay Bicycle Club are. Bombay Bicycle Club - A Different Kind of Fix Bombay Bicycle club don't like to wait around. 25 months after releasing their attention-grabbing debut record, the group are readying the release of album number three. The marked difference between 20092s I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose - all chaos and indie guitars - and 20102s entirely acoustic Flaws has meant that although the [...]
