MetalSucks tipsters are the bestest in the whole world. Take for example Fredrik Staavi Ekern who just emailed to let me know that Benea Reach have two brand new demo tracks streaming on their SignMeTo page. Why SignMeTo as opposed to Soundcloud, Facebook, their official website or even MySpace? Beats me... but let's stop asking questions [...]
Trying to keep up with the changes at a music festival is like trying to herd a pack of rabid cats. The South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival is the biggest musical kitty corral of them all. That's why you have me here to help you make heads or tails of all your SXSW metallic/hard [...]
Let the rumor mill for SXSW begin churning! MS tipster Fredrik Staavi Ekern has it on good faith that Norwegian black-punksters Kvelertak will be appearing at this year's SXSW festival in Austin, TX (March 16-20) along "with 18 other Norwegian bands," of which Benea Reach is one. Kip and I have been raving about Benea [...]
Some day Textures, Benea Reach and Celice will all come to the U.S. together on a tour that will go down in metal history as beyond legendary. That day is not today, but hey, it could happen soon; Textures are currently in the studio recording a new record with new vocalist Daniel de Jongh, Benea [...]

The Indiecision '09 is a recap of the year gone by in Indian indie and a recognition of the work of its artists and those involved with the creation and promotion of the music. The Best Gig International was the best concert in India by an international artist attended by the Indiecision staff. The nominees for the Best Gig International are To be honest we had absolutely no expectations from Norwegian metal act Benea Reach. The thirteenth edition of Great Indian [...]

The thirteenth edition of Great Indian Rock hit Oasis, Pune last month. The lineup included Indian metal giants Scribe and Bhayanak Maut, with New Zealand alternative act Solstate and Norwegian metal act Benea Reach . We were there. Notes The far leaner Great Indian Rock tour skipped Mumbai and hit Pune last month. The lineup, however, was attractive enough for me to make the road trip. Mumbai's current metal frontrunners Scribe and Bhayanak Maut performed with international unknowns Solstate and Benea Reach. Oasis [...]

Great Indian Rock returns for its thirteenth instalment this October. The other big annual Indian rock gig comes back this year far leaner ( just like the other one ). With gigs in just four cities and two relatively unknown international headliners, the effects of the financial slowdown have visibly taken their toll on GIR (though some gigs don't need a recession to disappear ). The two international headliners are US metal act Intronaut (pictured) and Norwegian hardcore act Benea Reach . Intronaut toured recently with Mastodon while [...]
Round about the time this site was jocking the wares of avant-garde prog metallers Sikth and Textures, several of you emailed us about the French band Hacride. And as usual, you were right on the money. While Hacride don't have the frenetic nature of Sikth nor the epic sense of melody of Textures, they do [...]
January 16th and 17th will be the final shows ever for Norwegian rockers Stonegard. Though they apparently split-up in October 2008 and I've known about these Farewell concerts in Oslo for a while, I still can't shake my disappointment at having such a great act not being able to hold itself together. I'm even more [...]

What a year this was, right? Oil goes way up then goes way down, America elects a half-white guy for the presidency, and OJ is finally receives a prison sentence. This was a good year for me in terms of the harder offerings. In 2007 I kinda had to do the ice-cream-genre-barrel-scrape- around because a lot of metallish releases didn't hit the sweet spot. While that sounds like a personal problem, keep in mind that this is music we're talking about; it can't be anything but personal. I used to make fun of my middle-school friend's little [...]
Yeah, we know it's a little hokey, but with an American holiday centered around food consumption close at hand, any post involving the topic of stuffing our gullets is apropos. We even feature one band that we didn't have to bastardize in order to gormandize. Think of it as a little trivia dog wrapped in a big, buttery, campy croissant. Any and all user submitted parody names and Photoshops are encouraged in the comments. Have at it! Full list after the jump. 25. Explosions in the Pie [...]
So a lot of you have been emailing us lately about this band Hacride, a really solid French progressive metal band very much in the Meshuggah / Textures / Benea Reach school. I think they're pretty F'n cool, even if not entirely original (see also: those bands). Here's the trippy Aronofsky-esque video for their song [...]
So if you've previously traversed these here interweb waters before, chances are you prolly know who our-very-favorite-first-half-o f-2008-discovered-Norwegian-ma th-metal band is; that said, the dudes in Benea Reach are bringing the progressive aggressive Nordic strength in a major way as well...and whoah, look at that - their recently-released album Alleviat, just officially made my top-10 list of [...]
The new issue of the Lords of Metal e-zine is out and it features interviews with a ton of bands such as Burst , Enslaved , Benea Reach , The Haunted and much more: http://www.lordsofmetal.nl/int erviews.php?lang=en
Benea Reach are a frustrating band. One minute they'll neck-deep in metalcore cliché, but then all of a sudden they'll turn it around completely with a riff that'll blow your mind. You get both in the first 30 seconds of "New waters" . It opens with a plodding stomp riff and then it opens up into pure epicness, replete with harsh screams and weirdo syncopation. It's those moments that redeem the band and elevate them above the rabble. Otherwise, it's nothing but tedium and generic e-chug Meshuggah riffs. They do the polyrhythmic thing well, but it's [...]
