Frank Yang Q: Without a new record to promote - Mr. Love & Justice has been out for close to two years - what reason did Billy Bragg have for staging an ambitious cross-Canada tour ? A: Who cares? Any time you get the opportunity to see Billy Bragg live, you take it, no questions asked. Of course, I say that having missed his last three appearances in Toronto - the September 2006 show at the Music Hall for not one but two weddings, [...]

"I have plans already this weekend," Gibbard tells Spinner. "I'm sure there's enough people seeing it this weekend that they're not going to need my 10 bucks. I feel pretty confident about that."
It's been a busy last few months for Ben Gibbard . First there was that Jay Farrar collaboration on the Jack Kerouac soundtrack . And, of course, there's the Death Cab for Cutie song on that soundtrack for the shiny vampire movie. Plus, the man got married! Yet despite all this, Mr. Zooey Deschanel has once again made time found time to join an already all-star line-up for a killer new album. And this time it's not just for our entertainment. According to Spinner.com , Gibbard [...]

Gibbard's gone country on "These Roads Don't Move" for the soundtrack to the documentary film One Fast Move or I'm Gone , about Jack Kerouac's time spent at Big Sur. now you can prank call maynard w kerns! That's a picture of Jack Kerouac's listing in the St Petersburg, Florida phone book. Even though he long left this world, his name remained in the phone book up until a couple years ago (the phone number still rang until 1999, per this article in the St Pete Times ). Why did they leave it there for so long? I have no clue - must've seemed like a cool thing to keep. My friend Casey mentioned the phone book thing to me about [...]
One Fast Move Or I'm Gone is a wonderful collection of songs from Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard and Son Volt/Uncle Tupelo's Jay Farrar. The material, crafted together using words from Jack Kerouac's Big Sur novel, invokes the same optimism, longing, and playfully deep introspection that has made millions of readers identify with Kerouac's work. Last monday, Gibard and Farrar brought these songs to life with a rocking three-piece rhythm section at the brand new Lincoln Hall [...]

Here's what I love most about being a music blogger: I get to go from listening to the murky underworld of Raekwon's Cuban Lynx 2 to the sublime, ethereal sounds of Los Angeles' Yoya . Vocally, lead singer Alex Pfender sounds like Ben Gibbard imitating Jeff Buckley: He's got a light touch, smooth and kind. Musically, the debut EP is a few shades to the center of Radiohead: Moody and soaring, but accessible. I particularly enjoyed "The Moon and the Shore," with its time changes and guitar-drum-vocal interplay. This EP is definitely worth your time. [...]

Frank Yang White Rabbits have got it covered in the name-dropping department. Via TBD Records , they're labelmates with a little British outfit called Radiohead and their critically-hailed second album It's Frightening was produced by Britt Daniel, who sometimes moonlights in a band popular in some circles called Spoon . Yeah, the Brooklyn sextet have got plenty of ammo for cocktail parties, but it doesn't necessarily tell you much about their actual music, does it. Well the Britt Daniel [...]
I've started another site. It's the same post as this one...only it's my own server for when the music industry comes knocking and tries to takedown my posts. I've has some weird ones taken down. I had a Weezer post taken down...even though they were Weezer demos that had been given away for free. And an Eminem post taken down...and I didn't even have an MP3 link on that one. That's a little

This is the second time I'm doing this kind of shorties post, and it may show that I'm better than I thought on consistency... Let's start with some "VERY SHORTIES" and below this, you will find a lot of free goodies and music recommendations: [...]
